A young Queens mom died cradling her newborn son early yesterday after a drunken driver slammed into their vehicle - then didn't lift a finger to help his victims, police and witnesses said yesterday.Newsday account.
Tragic mother Paula Serrano, 28, lay mortally injured on a Rego Park street while horrified and hurt family members who had been in the taxi van with her cried and screamed for help.
But alleged drunk driver Qadir Ahmad, 19, and his passengers only looked on from across the street, not one of them offering to help after their car plowed into the taxi and hurtled the woman to her death, witnesses said.
Three children - Serrano's 3-week-old son, whom she was holding at the time, her 6-year-old daughter and an 8-month-old nephew - miraculously survived the crash.
Serrano's body was found yards away from the wreckage.
"She still had her hands folded together like she was still holding the baby," said Serrano's stricken brother, Eloy Coatl, 26, one of seven adults in the car, including the driver.

The crash injured several other passengers in the taxi, but all it did to Ahmad was sober him up a little, police said.
His blood-alcohol content, taken later at the precinct, was .089 percent, they said. The legal limit is .08 percent. Cops said the percentage was likely higher during the crash.

Ahmad, of Lake Grove, L.I., was charged with vehicular manslaughter and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
According to 7online, Ahmad tried to assign blame elsewhere.
"I was going 35-40 miles per hour. Next thing, I saw white vehicle coming right in front of me," the alleged drunk driver, Qadir Ahmad, said. "I jammed my brakes as fast as I could."
Nineteen-year-old Qadir Ahmad was in the other vehicle. a red Camry. He claims a third car actually caused him to run the intersection. But officials are not only blaming Ahmad for the accident, they are also charging him with drunk driving.
