Vitter Apologizes for Adultery, Announces Switch to Democrat Party

The leftwing blogs are kvelling this morning over this revelation. I'd like to see what other names are on the list, but the site is down.

People love scandal and Vitter left himself wide open.

Memo to Rudy Giuliani: You may want to reconsider having this guy on your campaign. Quickly.

OK, so I'm facetiously suggesting he's switched to the Democrat Party, though he may as well. They welcome adulterers, but clearly hold Republicans to a double standard. Vitter may just want to take the cue from "Bourbon Street" Bob Livingston and call it a career.

U.S. Sen. apologizes after phone number appears on escort records
WASHINGTON -- Sen. David Vitter, R-La., apologized Monday night for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called "D.C. Madam.''

Vitter's spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an email sent to The Associated Press.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in the statement. ``Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counselling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there -- with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.''
If there are any Democrat names on the list, it will be curious to see if the media reports them with such unabashed glee.

Before we get to the blog reaction -- vivid and extensive, as might be imagined -- the big question that occurs to me is this: How can a member of Congress smart enough to graduate from Harvard University be so stupid as to do business with an escort service? Keep in mind that Vitter was first elected to Congress in a 1999 special election to replace former House Speaker Bob Livingston, who resigned after admitting on the House floor that he had committed adultery. But meanwhile, the blogs are barking ...
