It appears that the vast majority of Muslims living in Ireland have integrated successfully into society and strongly reject Islamic extremism. An opinion poll carried out for the Irish Independent/RTE Primetime on Muslim attitudes reveals an extremely high level of tolerance among Muslims living in Ireland. THE vast majority of Muslims living in Ireland have integrated successfully into society and strongly reject Islamic extremism. An opinion poll carried out for the Irish Independent/RTE Primetime on Muslim attitudes - the first of its kind carried out here - reveals an extremely high level of tolerance among Muslims living in Ireland. It found 73pc believe they are fully integrated into Irish society, with 77pc saying they feel accepted here.
Oh so happy to be Muslim and Irish, right? The Irish have solved this seemingly intractable problem, yes? Wrong. Get this.
- More than a third of Irish Muslims (36%) would prefer Ireland to be ruled under Sharia law.
- 37% would like Ireland to be governed as an Islamic state.
The survey shows Muslim youths hold the strongest views within the Islamic community on politics and religion. And can you guess which age demographic shows the highest increase? That's right - young Muslims. So what do THEY think?
- 28% of young Muslims aged between 16 and 26 believe violence for political ends is sometimes justified.
- More than half of young Muslims (58%) believe Ireland should become an Islamic State.
- Almost one-in-five (19%) said they "respect" al-Qa'ida terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden.
Amazingly, the article THEN says that Irish Muslims are pretty liberal kind of guys.
Bin Laden hero-worshipped, crying out for Sharia law, demanding an Islamic State - liberal?
Too much blarney. Ireland faces the same issue as the rest of the West - a growing Islamic population that admires Al Queda, wants to see Sharia law, and demands an Islamic State. But denial also runs through the political elite in Dublin - and so they look upon this poll as evidence that tolerance reigns.
