UK NUTs Try to Prevent Military From Schools

Members of Britain's National Union of Teachers (or NUT, which seems appropriate) are making a move to prevent the military from visiting schools. But on the other hand, they want to invite other folks to teach classes for them, including imams.

Teachers are accusing the Ministry of Defence of using "sophisticated" methods to lure youngsters, often in deprived areas, into the armed forces.

National Union of Teachers delegates in Manchester will debate a motion later calling for an end to "recruitment" in schools in England and Wales.

Teachers say pupils are not made fully aware of what they are signing up to.

The MoD says it is invited into about 1,000 schools a year, but its teams go to raise awareness not recruit.

The teacher bringing this motion up seems to be concerned that their students are too young to make informed decisions about their futures.

Catherine Brennan, a teacher from Croydon, south London, who is presenting the motion, said recruiters use information which does not allow young people to make informed choices.

"They are too young to vote, too young to drink, too young to drive, but they are considered old enough to sign up for years in the armed forces without being fully aware of what they are signing themselves up for in their lives," she said."

However, you will notice that this same teachers union does not have similar concerns over imams and other religious representatives visiting and teaching in the classrooms.

Imams, rabbis and priests should be allowed to offer religious instruction in all British state schools, a major teachers' union says.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) believes allowing preachers from a range of faiths into schools would help reduce the growing demand for specialist religious schools.

The union's radical plan would allow imams to give religious instruction to Muslim students, while rabbis would be allowed to instruct Jewish pupils.

Muslim schools would also have to allow priests to provide instruction to Christian children.

Yes, I'm sure that Muslim schools would be real cooperative in this program.

Funny how in this case the students are not too young to be making decisions about their future, but they are when it comes to the military. Looks like moonbats are the same wherever you go.
