Democrat Turned Republican Turned Independent Calls for Unity, Announces Job Cuts

You've got to simply shake you head when it comes to New York's nanny-state Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Here you have a guy who's switched party affiliation three times the past eight years, just anointed himself eligible to run for mayor in spite of term limits and here he comes and tells us we have to unite behind Barack Obama.

Sure, just like the left were united behind George Bush after his two victories.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says President-elect Barack Obama's victory shows how far the country has come.

The billionaire mayor had spent months testing the waters to see if he had any chance at winning the White House as an independent candidate.

As Obama and Republican John McCain began to emerge as front-runners earlier this year, Bloomberg ultimately concluded he could not win because they both appealed to independent voters that he would have sought to attract.

Bloomberg hinted for months that he might make an endorsement, but ultimately said he did not want to hurt any of his relationships in Washington.
In other words, he's spineless and loyal only to himself. The ultimate vacillation: playing footsie for months, endorsing nobody, then lecturing the rest of us when the elction's over.

A man of true conviction.

Immediately upon offering us his wisdom, Bloomberg embraced this new era of hopenchange by announcing hundreds of job cuts.
To suture a growing budget gap, Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday is expected to announce cuts of hundreds of jobs, reduction of firefighter training and cancellation of the police academy's incoming class in January.

Bloomberg, trying to brace the city against a worsening economic downturn and $4-billion budget shortfalls this year and next, is to announce the cuts at a noon news conference at City Hall.

According to an administration official, some 3,000 jobs will be cut from the city's work force, some by layoffs and some by attrition.
Maybe Obama's civilian defense force can pick up the slack for those missing police and firefighters.
