Guilty! 54 Times

That is the verdict in the Brian Nichols trial. He was found guilty of all 54 charges against. Four of those charges were murder.

To refresh your memory Brian Nichols is guy who escaped from custody in Atlanta while standing trial for rape. In the process of escaping he beat a female sheriff's deputy so badly that she has been disfigured for life and is still undergoing therapy 3 1/2 years later.

In addition to beating her up he shot and killed a judge, a court reporter, a deputy and later in the day a US Customs Agent.

Most people might remember he that he holed up inside the apartment of Ashley Smith, who managed to get him to surrender after talking to him using Rick Warren's book "The Purpose Driven Life".

This trial has taken a long time and cost the tax payers millions of dollars, mostly due to the fact that the first judge assigned to the case was anti death penalty and he allowed the defense attorneys to file all kind of delays. Once he was removed and Justice Bodiford was put in his place things got moving.

The sentencing phase is not scheduled until next week.

Hopefully he will get the death sentence and then 20 years from now probably justice will finally be carried out.
