As the economy worsens, more men and women are hoping to cash in by selling their sperm and eggs.
The president of Northeast Assisted Fertility Group in Boston and New York tells the Boston Herald that the number of women filling out applications to donate eggs have doubled in recent weeks. The agency pays women a fee of $10,000 after their eggs are retrieved.
At the Wellesley egg-donor agency Prospective Families, the number of women asking about donating their eggs jumped by about 30 percent since September.
And California Cryobank, with offices in Cambridge and California, has seen the number of potential sperm donors grow by 15 percent in 2008 compared to 2007.
