It's a big day for New York's junior senator, and Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand is going to get some home-state mileage out of it.Let's revisit that remark down the road. Maybe if she's as great as Justice Scalia or Justice Thomas then this absurd prediction would actually have some merit.
Gillibrand, an appointed senator who could face a tough road to re-election in 2010, is going to introduce home-state nominee Sonia Sotomayor Monday afternoon at Sotomayor's confirmation hearing (along with Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., a Judiciary Committee member who was tasked with helping to shepherd Sotomayor's nomination through the Senate).
...
Don't expect Gillibrand to hold back in her introductory remarks According to her office, Gillibrand plans to tell the panel that Sotomayor "stands to be one of the greatest judges in American history."
Until then Gillibrand needs to stop hyperventilating.
