Biden told reporters Tuesday that spending by state and local governments increased in the last quarter, as did household incomes, while investments by businesses had contracted less than expected. He also said that home and car sales are rising as well, thanks to government incentive programs.Oh yes, that Cars for Clunkers fiasco, perhaps the biggest government fiasco since FDR had pigs slaughtered during the Great Depression.

Vice President Joe Biden will speak Wednesday in Detroit on the economy, and plans to announce the first round of $2 billion in federal battery research grants.Spirit of innovation? How is destroying America's economy and the rush to absorb the health-care industry going to foster innovation?
The White House said Monday that Biden will discuss the immediate steps that the Obama administration has taken to rescue the economy, and the long-term investments it is making to rebuild it.
"He will discuss how we build a new economic foundation strong enough to withstand future economic storms and support lasting prosperity, and how we recapture the spirit of innovation that has always moved America forward," the White House said in a statement.
