Report Stolen Valor Launches

I am glad to see an official website now being set up to report cases of what is known as stolen honor, Report Stolen Valor.org. What stolen honor is IS those individuals who claim to have had military service but in fact do not. They pass themselves off on an unsuspecting public and in the process hurt all of the true veterans.

This sort of thing goes on more than most people realize and is one of the easiest scams to get by with since such a small percentage of the citizens of this country have any direct knowledge of the military. Their knowledge of the military is mostly shaped by the images presented by Hollywood and some very disconnected reporting by the rest of the media.

One of the best sources I have found for uncovering these frauds has been a website run by a guy named Jonn Lilyea called This Ain't Hell, along with some of the most able co-bloggers on any milblog. He has done a yeoman's job at uncovering these fakes and I have no doubt he will be working very closely with the folks from the AmVets organization to continue shining a bright light on those who would bring shame and discredit upon those who served honorably.
