Hey, why not? It's not her fault mall employees were doubled over in laughter at how stupid this woman is. So she needs a payday or something. Well, if a jury is dumb enough to toss her some dough, she's got a few bills to pay off.
The Reading woman who became an Internet sensation by falling into a fountain while sending a text on her cell phone was in Berks County Court on Thursday for a status hearing on theft-by-deception and related charges. This is what we've come to in America. The chance for a quick payday trumps public and personal humiliation. I surmise this woman may regret coming forward to remind us what an idiot she is.
Cathy A. Cruz Marrero, 49, was charged in October 2009 for using a co-worker's credit cards to make more than $5,000 in purchases at two local stores.
But $1,055 of those purchases were dismissed from the case in previous hearings.
She also has several theft cases and a hit-and-run charge on her record.
Her appearance Thursday before Judge Peter W. Schmehl was shortly after she and her Reading attorney in the Berkshire Mall case, James M. Polyak, went on ABC's "Good Morning America" to talk about the fall into the fountain.
Her Reading attorney in the theft case, Douglas J. Waltman, said Marrero has applied for intermediate punishment, which can include restitution.
The case is pending.
He declined further comment.
her atty's phone number is 610 - 376 - 5250...nobody's answering and no recorder as of 6:30 PST...
ReplyDeleteguess they don't wanna hear my opinion of his ethics, clientele, or judicial acumen. Will try tomorrow
I don't blame the office for not taking her call. She blew it :-D
ReplyDeleteUnauthorized credit card purchases, hit-and-run, theft. She's a real pantload isn't she. And her grounds for suing are????
ReplyDeleteLet me see if I can get the lawsuit grounds correct - she's suing for being stupid, not knowing how to walk properly in a mall, texting while being a pedestrian (Lord knows what this cunning stunt does while driving) and generally being a neurotic nitwit. Is that correct Ms Marrero?
Look lady, I can see you're embarassed for being a viral laughingstock and getting humiliated in front of millions of web viewers but enough is enough. Cut your losses and drop the legal action now before you make an even bigger asshole out of yourself. Our court system is a joke enough now and they don't need clowns like you making it worse. Don't double down on stupid.
I bet she has a book on her steering wheel also...
ReplyDeleteFrank, let us know if you get through! But be careful - any attorney willing to take a case like this is as big a crook as his client.
