Bernie Marcus: Obama WH is 'Amateurs Surrounded by Amateurs'

Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus whacked the hapless Barack Obama a couple months back when he he assessed Obama's business acumen, saying "I'm not sure Obama would understand anything that I'd say" as he lamented the woeful state of the economy.

Marcus steps up to the plate again, saying the Obama White is populated with "amateurs surrounded by amateurs."

Ouch.

The Georgian who every Republican presidential candidate wants in his camp still hasn’t decided who he’s going to back. But although Bernie Marcus believes in abortion and gun control, he knows who he won’t support: Barack Obama.

In an interview at the Georgia Public Policy Foundation meeting here, the billionaire philanthropist and Home Depot co-founder lambasted the “amateurs in the White House” as “amateurs surrounded by amateurs.”

But he would not pick sides in the fight for the Republican nomination.

Marcus is far from a doctrinaire conservative, but is wise enough to put social issues aside.

Yet he’s willing to embrace candidates with diametrically opposite social views if they agree with him on economics. He said the next president needs to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits while holding the line on defense spending.

“I’m not an arch [conservative] kind of guy, but people like myself want to see someone in Washington who understands that if the country is not strong economically, we can’t be strong period,” he said.

Bernie Marcus is one of the co founders of Home Depot, along with Arthur Blank, and his life's story is the embodiment of the American dream. He is also one helluva humanitarian, something which those on the left would scoff at since he part of the evil rich, but without people like him things like this would not be possible.

Bernie Marcus and health care are synonymous. With donations of more than $44 million for the Marcus Autism Center, and an added $25 million to fund Autism Speaks.

He's added almost $18 million to support the Shepherd Center and major programs to rehabilitate returning military personnel. Almost $4 million to the CDC Foundation, and $20 million to enhance the Trauma Center at Grady Hospital.

Add to that the fact that he almost single-handedly funded the Georgia Aquarium with a donation of $200 million and you don't have the portrait of some black-hearted corporate thug.

Well, Bernie ain't exactly happy about government control of health care.

But when it comes to the government's health care program, Marcus said, "I see a very bleak future for health care in the United States, if we pass government controlled health care. The Congress, the federal workers do not participate. This is for you and for me. I mean come on, give me a break will you, please."

Marcus says the real need is to curb fraud and limit litigation to bring costs into line.

"I don't support the national health care program. I think it's a disaster. I think we should fight it to the death," he said.

Who would you believe, somebody who came from nothing and accomplished so much and knows the business world inside and out, or a bunch of stuffed shirts who for the most part can only claim drawing a taxpayer paycheck for 40 years as an accomplishment?

Home Depot co-founder opens wallet to vets' plight

In a move meant to help injured soldiers and send Washington a message, Atlanta businessman Bernie Marcus stepped up Monday to help veterans get top-flight medical care. But he warned there was a limit to his generosity.

I applaud the gesture and I support his intent, I just don't want him to go off into left field with the rhetoric. The health care of veterans is an important issue and something that should be addressed and I support all who support our troops not just with words but deeds.

I profiled Piers Morgan who is on Donald Trump's show Celebrity Apprentice and has so far managed to win close to $100K, I believe, for his charity, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, even though after seeing the man in action and learning about his less then stellar past I don't necessarily like the man.

Marcus offered to underwrite the costs — care, transportation and housing — of any wounded soldier, sailor or Marine whom the Shepherd Center, a renowned Atlanta clinic for brain and spinal injuries, approved for treatment.

At a press conference Monday at the Shepherd Center, Marcus said he wanted to set an example for his fellow philanthropists. He aims to bring financial help and possibly shame the Pentagon and Congress into covering all medical treatment costs for its vets.

Note to Michelle Obama, he is one of those corporate types you wish people would not want to become.
