Captain Sully Retires to Focus on Fulltime 'Rock Star Sex'

Let's face it, what more is there to work for after you land a plane on the Hudson?

The Hero of the Hudson hung up his wings Wednesday.

Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who became a national hero last winter after he miraculously crash-landed a stricken US Airways flight in the river and got everybody out alive, is retiring, the airline said.

"I have been fortunate to have followed my passion for most of my life, working in a profession I dearly love," Sullenberger, 59, said later in a statement.

The hero pilot gave a shout out to his co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and vowed to continue working as an advocate for airline safety and for "the airline piloting profession."

"I will work to remind the entire industry - and those who manage and regulate it - that we have a sacred duty to our passengers to do the very best that we know how to do," he wrote.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires pilots to retire at age 60.

Here's hoping Captain Sully continues getting all that rock star sex.

In other FAA news, an air traffic controller is in hot water for allowing his five-year-old to direct traffic.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating why a child was allowed to direct air traffic at John F. Kennedy airport, one of the busiest airports in the country.

The FAA says a controller brought the child to work on February 17th and allowed him to talk to pilots.

"Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic," the FAA said in a statement. "This behavior is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees." The agency declined to comment beyond the statement.

I can't see why anyone would want to buy this, except maybe for the rock star sex you might get out of the deal.

You probably can't fly like Sully - but you can own his plane.

The damaged airliner that Capt. Chesley Sullenberger gracefully landed in the Hudson River a year ago is up for sale in an online auction.

Not surprisingly, the "as is" plane is in rough shape.

"Destroyed. Aircraft suffered severe bird strike event resulting in water emergency landing," says a description of the jet on the Web site of insurance firm Chartis.

"Severe water damage throughout airframe. Impact damage to underside of aircraft."

He's a hero in the sack, too.

The wife of Pilot Chesley Sullenberger let slip that all the hosannas her hubby got for safely landing a US Airways plane in the Hudson River gave their sex life a big boost.

"He doesn't know I'm gonna say this, but I had joked the other day that ... the hero sex really helps a 20-year-old marriage," Laurie Sullenberger told NBC's Matt Lauer.

"Rock star sex," Sullenberger chimed in.

The Sullenbergers' TMI moment came after Lauer asked them - for a Thanksgiving Day special - if Sully's sudden celebrity helped or hurt their relationship.

Chesley Sullenberger: An American Hero

Living in the New York area it's been all Flight 1549 coverage the past five hours. I first heard the news as I began driving home this afternoon and was riveted to radio coverage throughout my commute. I was nearly brought to tears of relief as news filtered out that all aboard made it out safely. For that we owe a tremendous debt of thanks to the flight crew and all the rescuers who were so fortunately upon the scene within minutes to save the passengers from the frigid Hudson.

Above all we must tip our hats to Captain Chesley Sullenberger III. Without his calm, cool action there could have been an unspeakable calamity in this area, be it the plane crashing into the George Washington Bridge or coming down over a populated area and all the fears of terrorism that would have accompanied such a disaster.

The hero of Flight 1549, pilot Chesley B. Sullenberger III, walked the aisle of the downed US Airways jet twice looking for passengers before exiting the plane he safely ditched in the Hudson River, saving the lives of more than 150 people onboard.

"It would appear that the pilot did a masterful job of landing the plane in the river and then making sure everybody got out," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said of the veteran pilot and Air Force Academy graduate.

Sullenberger, 57, has more than 40 years of flying experience and served as an air force fighter pilot and instructor.

Whatever accolades Captain Sullenberger has coming his way, the grateful thanks of his passengers is surely tops among them.
