Just Because I Represent You In Congress Doesn't Mean I Have To Live There

Well, ain't this special? I just found out via an article about a community garden that my U.S. Representative doesn't even live in the district he represents. Isn't that sort of illegal?

Perhaps David Scott is so fed up with getting pushed around by Republicans in Washington that he decided to take his frustrations out on his own neighbors.

Otherwise, it’s difficult to fathom why the veteran congressman is fighting a proposed community garden on public parkland across the street from his Inman Park home with a fervor usually reserved for battling toxic waste dumps.

“Why should this be ram-rodded through?” Scott asked neighbors during a rancorous community meeting last week in a church basement. “Don’t we deserve a voice?”

Now, to be fair, Scott and his outspoken wife aren’t the only ones who oppose the garden. At least 16 of his fellow Hurt Street residents have signed a petition affirming that they don’t want the view from their porches ruined by the sight of organic produce.

But clearly it’s Scott’s clout as a Congressman that has put the brakes on a garden that’s been several months in the planning and had enjoyed strong support from much of the neighborhood. According to one bemused observer, Scott’s been seen so much at City Hall in recent weeks you’d think he worked there.

It’s worth noting that Scott doesn’t even represent Inman Park. His 13th Congressional District lies predominantly to the south and west of Fulton County.

That would be David Scott (D-GA). A self-proclaimed Blue Dog who has yet to vote against a single spending bill, and is often referred to around here as San Francisco's second representative. Nancy Pelosi is their main go-to person.

This is the same David Scott who derided a doctor at one of his townhall meetings for daring to question him about the healthcare legislation and who had a swastika painted on a sign outside his office, which is in the district he represents. An incident which has strangely disappeared off the radar screen. It might have something to do with the fact that there was a surveillance camera across the parking lot that may have caught the offender on tape and the suspicion is that it was one of his own staffers.

While you were watching your favorite college football team, or not so favorite team yesterday, the House of Representatives were hard at work taking even more of your freedom and independence away. I would like to thank Rep Pence, and others who stood to oppose this government takeover, not just of healtchcare, but of so much of our lives.

My representative, David Scott (D-GA), whom a lot of people around here refer to as Nancy Pelosi's lap dog or San Frans second representative, of course voted with his party and in so doing doomed one of the largest employers in the state. Smooth move Ex-Lax.

Democrat Congressman Fined For Ethics Violation

It isn't the one you think. C'mon you expect anything to happen to Charlie Rangel?
How did I miss this? My representative, David Scott (D-GA/13) just got fined by the Georgia state ethics committee.

U.S. Rep. David Scott (D-Ga) was fined $7,500 by the state Ethics Commission Thursday for failing to file reports showing what he did with leftover campaign money he raised while he served in the General Assembly.

Scott served two decades in the General Assembly from Atlanta before being elected to Congress in 2002.
Nice of him to stay in character since in 2007 he was named to the list of 25 most corrupt politicians in Congress. The voters in his district didn't care he had all the mandatory requirements to be congressman. The right skin tone and the right party affiliation. He beat an African American woman doctor who was a Republican.

My only question is why did the Georgia legislature wait for 5 years to start investigating?

A Tale Of Two Healthcare Forums

Today in Atlanta we had the unique experience of two different gatherings revolving around the current debate on the proposed healthcare legislation. One was a townhall/forum hosted by that irascible scamp Rep. David Scott (D-GA) in Jonesboro at a high school and the other was a rally held in downtown Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park.

The story can best be told in pictures. By now everyone is aware of the allegations made by the left of those who oppose the legislation are somehow nothing more then stooges and pawns of the some greater conspiracy and what they call "astroturf" protestors, meaning they aren't real but rather on the payroll of somebody.

Well, let's see which side dresses alike and shows up with pre printed slickly produced signs and which group just sort of shows up.













This one puts it in perfect perpective.

About 3000 folks showed up downtown for the rally against Obamacare and Mr. Scott's forum played to a full house also.

Two metro Atlanta representatives, Hank Johnson and David Scott, solidly support the Obama, Pelosi, Reid plan and as proof that they are not really representing their constituents in a poll recently conducted by one of our local TV stations, 11 Alive, the results show 56% oppose and only 34% are in favor of the current legislation, but neither of these gentlemen give two flips about their constituents, only about staying in the good graces of Madame Pelosi. David Scott even has the nerve to call himself a Blue Dog. They ought to kick him out if he is an example of a Blue Dog Democrat, since he hasn't got a fiscally conservative bone in his body.

My Congressman, David Scott (D-GA) Loses It At Townhall

I was not there. There was somebody from Pat Dollard's group that was there, but was not allowed to enter the meeting with a camera, however, it seems the City of Douglasville did indeed tape it.

U.S. Rep. David Scott (D-13th) was involved in what many called an embarrassing display of losing his temper at a town hall meeting in Douglasville last weekend.

In the meeting, Scott lost his temper and began yelling at a crowd that included two people who came forward during the question-and-answer portion of the meeting to ask Scott about his stance on the health care plan proposed by the White House and being debated on Capitol Hill.

He was unwilling to take any questions on the healthcare legislation, and in fact from what I heard, refused to take questions on anything other then how he managed to slip in earmarks into legislation to bring the bacon home. He couldn't figure out why folks weren't real happy with that news either. Dammit, don't the peasants know when their vote is being bought?

Why The November Elections Scare Me

Georgia had their primary elections yesterday and the outcome of a couple of the races is very telling. It involves the candidates running under the Democrat banner. It is very apparent to the Democrats in this country that candidates with a history of corruption and even criminal offenses is not enough reason for them to be denied election to office. Here are 2 cases in point.
The first is the race to determine the Democrat challenger to Saxby Chambliss for Senator from Georgia. There were five candidates on the ballot and no winner has been decided. They will have to go to a runoff to determine who the candidate will be. What is shocking is who the 2 candidates are that will be facing off in this runoff. They are Jim Martin and Vernon Jones.
Vernon Jones won the most votes, but why is that so shocking? Vernon Jones was the former CEO of Dekalb county Georgia, the same area that is home to Cynthia McKinney. Vernon Jones has been involved in one after another case involving abuse of his position while CEO, charges of corruption and even criminal charges of rape. If you Google "Vernon Jones Rape" you will receive 50,300 articles talking about the topic.
For Vernon Jones corruption you will get 48,900 articles.
Sometimes he was accused of doing both at the same time. What is also interesting in that article is that one of the reporters who contributed to that report, Dale Cardwell, was also on the Democrat ballot to challenge for this seat.
The rape charges were later dropped under mysterious circumstances and rumors of the victim being paid off.

The Democratic candidate himself is likely to be subject to questions about his personal life. As DeKalb CEO, Jones was the center of several controversies — including a 2005 rape allegation, in which a woman alleged Jones, who is not married, had assaulted her after a night of consentual sex with her and a second woman.

After a nine-month investigation, the woman withdrew the charges, but never recanted.

Jim Martin the other guy in this run off is a career politician and highly touted by the "Progressive Democrats". Progressives is code word for the folks who frequent web sites like the Daily Kos. Click on that link only if you are prepared to be subjected to some very vile, crude, and profanity laced reading. So the Dems have to choose between a candidate who ought to be in jail and one who has the endorsement of Kos crowd.

The second case is the one for my congressional district (GA-13). The Republicans have their candidate Deborah Honeycutt. The Democrat, who is the incumbent, is David Scott. This time he had some challengers, mainly because when you appear on the list of 25 most corrupt politicians in DC you would think there was some weakness. By the way that group is a liberal group. Well you would be wrong. He beat his competition 64% to 36%.
The reason to be scared is because come November it is expected that the Dems will be turning out in large numbers so that they can cast a vote for the Obama Messiah. They will go into the polling booth and ask for a Democrat ballot and vote for these guys right along with Changemeister. The voter either doesn't bother to get informed or else they are just apathetic to the personal flaws and politics of the candidates. Obviously they must be if they can follow blindly the rhetoric of Barack, who if he presented his resume to a Fortune 500 company, might have trouble getting hired based on how thin it is.

Georgia Representative Looking Out for You

Unfortunately, it is my representative, David Scott (D-GA). In an effort to address the issues of developing a common sense energy policy for America, to tackle the issue of defeating the radical Islamic movement, and to provide a definitive solution for the illegal immigration program he has proposed H.R. 2356.

Adds Father's Day, the third Sunday in June, to the official occasions for the display of the U.S. flag.

That's right, in light of all the pressing issues facing this country in regards to national security, sound fiscal policy and answers to our energy issues, he has somehow found the time to sponsor a bill that will allow you to fly your flag on Father's Day. Unless you live in one of those subdivisions ruled by one of those all powerful homeowners associations normally headed by some guy with a Napoleonic complex.

I have no idea how many late hours were spent by the good congressman, no doubt toiling away late into the night and pushing his staff almost to the point of exhaustion doing the research and working on the right wording so that he could have a resolution worthy of the American people.

A Mother's Day Candidate Profile

Today's candidate profile is a woman running on the Republican ticket to unseat the current Democrat representative for my district in Georgia.

Her name is Deborah Honeycutt. To find out about the incumbent click on the tags at the bottom of the post, but this post is all about Mrs Honeycutt.

She is a doctor and this not her first challenge to the current corrupt politician who is holding the seat right now. A word of advice to Mrs. Honeycutt, don't ignore that sliver of Cobb County that is in the district you want to represent like you did last time. The district in question is 13th and it encompasses much of the southern and western portions of the metro Atlanta including Cobb, Fulton, Clayton, and Fayette. Clayton County is the county that is in danger of losing the accreditation for its schools that I have written about a lot, and one which once again is predominately an African American area and just can't or won't leave the Democrat plantation. That is what makes it such an uphill climb for Deborah Honeycutt. Even thought she is a successful African American woman she has that dreaded (R) after her name and to too many people they simply can't see beyond that.

In 2004 Dr. Honeycutt was President of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and in 2005 served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. On the national level she has served on the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Education. She was twice elected the nationally elected Minority Constituency Delegate and is now the Georgia State Delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians.

In 2005 she became Medical Director of Good Shepherd Clinic, the free clinic in Morrow, Georgia. She served as medical director there until her decision to run for U.S. Congress in Georgia District 13. Dr. Honeycutt, despite her campaign schedule in 2006, continued to serve free clinic patients as a volunteer physician.

I don't think even the esteemed Dr Howard Dean can boast of such a record. Here is some more information on her stance in regards to small businesses.

Since her website is just starting up it is kind of sparse, but I hope she fills it up and I hope the RNC will see fit to send some money her way to get this corrupt Democrat out of office.

My representative in Congress is a one David Scott (D-GA) and at least I will say this for his office they do send me emails, but it is sort of apparent they don't read mine. Example: I received an email from his office some time ago where upon he was expressing disappointment over the fact that President Bush had vetoed the SCHIP bill that made it to his desk. My response?

Dear Mr Scott,
I support President Bush in his veto of this unnecessary and dramatic increase in the SCHIP program. There is no gap and the needs of those who need it the most are being met. The Democrats simply wanted to try and increase this program to cover people, not just children, who have the means to provide their own health insurance. Nobody in America is denied health care.
Thanks for letting me know you are not standing for common sense but instead give in to emotional arguments not grounded in facts.

I received this today. (This is just a portion of the entire message)

I understand your views about S. 2499, Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act. Throughout my years in public service I have continued to support initiatives that seek to ensure quality healthcare programs and services for the constituents I serve. Even as Democratic Leadership worked tirelessly to provide a sound bill which would provide health care coverage for some ten million children, the bill we voted on today simply extends the program until March 2008 for the children who are currently already enrolled. The bill also provides additional funding for the states for the purpose of ensuring that no children currently enrolled are dropped from coverage. The House twice passed versions of the SCHIP, which the President proceeded to veto. This veto was the President's 7 th veto in 7 years. This is telling as two of these vetoes are simply hurting our nation's children by denying millions access to healthcare. The President is standing as an impediment between millions of children and the healthcare they need and deserve. Vetoing a bill which helps millions of America 's low-income children is unconscionable.

Uh sir excuse me. Am I to understand that the House just voted on a bill which does not provide for an expansion of the SCHIP program but rather maintains it the way it is? If you had done that the first time the president would not have vetoed it. Who are these millions of children you are talking about. It was determined during the process the last time this matter was up for debate that none of the people the Democrats chose to use as examples were being denied coverage under the current plan anyway. In fact your party had some trouble coming up with anybody who was affected by this program remaining the same. Oh sure you kept saying they were out there but they apparently are as elusive as a Democrat presidential candidate showing up to vote in the Senate on tough bills.

Oh yeah almost forgot he is also on the list of 22 most corrupt members of Congress. Most ethical congress evahhh!

I received an email newsletter from the office of Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) this week and one of the items in it was this.

Water Resources Development Act
This week the Senate overturned a presidential veto of the Water Resources Development Act (HR 1495), which authorizes more than $127 million for critical water infrastructure projects in Georgia. I joined many of my Senate colleagues in voting to override the veto. We’re currently experiencing a historic drought in Georgia and the funding authorized in this bill will go a long way toward helping numerous communities across our state plan for the future and will help our communities invest in many much-needed infrastructure upgrades.

Do you mean this bill?

President Bush just added another resident to Vetoland, this resident being the water projects bill that got saturated with pork-barrel projects in conference. Despite having enough votes to override his veto, Bush sent the bill back as a protest against its escalating earmarks . . . .

The reason for the veto seems rather obvious. The House approved a $14 billion waterworks bill, and the Senate approved a $15 billion companion bill. Rather than split the difference and approve a $14.5 billion bill, or even go with the Senate's $15 billion, the conference committee reported out a $23 billion bill that proves that when pork multiplies, it's because taxpayers are getting screwed.

Seriously -- how did an extra $8 billion get added to the bill in conference? That's an increase of over 50% from the Senate bill, in conference. The larger embarrassment is that our elected representatives didn't see this greedy manipulation of the conference process as any big deal and overwhelmingly supported the results.

That's what pork does to corrupt the legislative process -- it buys votes. It's a bribery system that helps cover up another bribery system. One porcine paw washes the other, and the resulting appropriations grow on grotesque scales almost overnight.

Now in fairness to our 2 Senators from GA I don't really see a litany of pork in the portion of the bill with earmarks for GA. Just about everything in it for GA is for municipal water, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure. I do question this item though. $10 million for Savannah Riverfront development. That sounds like money for the city to rebuild the business district and not so much for work on the actual river way itself.
President Bush did veto this bill and just like Ed Morrissey over at Captain's Quarters says it is vote buying. There is such a lack of moral courage among our congress critters when it comes to such things as to have now reached the point of being embarrassing. They are so blatant about it now. Some more then others such as Clinton and Murtha. When these very same congress critters get into campaign mode are there any doubts they will scream about the federal deficit as a talking point. Our federal deficit is the lack of personal courage of those elected to represent us.

Next up is the Food and Energy Security Act of 2007 also known as the Farm Bill.

And just so you know my representative David Scott (D-GA) hasn't been sitting on his hands either. Why he brags about getting funding for Clayton State University. Well here it is in his own words.

Washington, Nov 6 - Today Congressman David Scott (D-GA) announced the inclusion of $325,000 for Clayton State University’s development of an archival graduate program in a bill that provides Fiscal Year 2008 funding for the Federal Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. The House of Representatives is expected to pass the spending bill today which also includes funding for Veterans and Military projects.

Here is a news flash to Mr Scott. Why are we providing federal dollars to a local university to "...to create a Master of Arts in Archive degree program at Clayton State University."? What the heck is the tuition money going for?
But it doesn't end there. Look what else he included.

Today Congressman David Scott announced that federal funds totaling $459,700 have been awarded to important projects in Fulton County. These awards include $334,700 for Grady Health system to upgrade electronic medical records and $125,000 to assist the county’s Department of Mental Health with creating a jail diversion program. These projects were included in the bill funding the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Education for Fiscal Year 2008, which was passed by the House of Representatives today.

Grady Hospital is a financially strapped hospital in Atlanta. Most of the mess is because of mismanagement and internal corruption. In the contacts I have had with the folks who work at Grady, not the doctors or nurses but rather the administrative staff, upgrading to electronic records ain't gonna help. I haven't met any of them who were smarter then a 5th grader, which is also a big part of Grady's problems, but that is a topic for a different time.
Folks fiscal responsibility starts at home. It means everyone of us need to hold congress accountable for the deficit not the President. The President vetoes, congress overrides so the blame lies squarely on their shoulders.
Folks you need to get on your Representatives and Senators mailing lists. You must contact them. Lobbyists have the money but you have the vote. Let them know you are informed. Let them know when you agree or disagree. I wouldn't have gotten this information without being on their email lists or visiting their web sites. Get involved or at least make them think you are.
