Bolivian Crackpot Morales: Failure to Take Action Against 'Global Warming' is 'Ecocide'

We have a choice. Help fund $600 billion annually or be accused of ecocide.

Bolivia's President Evo Morales says the Cancun climate conference will be committing "ecocide" if it fails to take decisive action to halt global warming.

The Bolivian leader spoke Thursday on the next-to-last day of an annual two-week U.N. negotiating session that will fail once again to achieve a sweeping, mandatory pact to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In a passionate, 20-minute speech, Morales cited families deprived of water because of warming and drought, and islanders facing the loss of homes from seas rising from global warming. He said if governments move away from strong emissions reductions, "then we will be responsible for 'ecocide,' which is equivalent to genocide because this would be an affront to mankind as a whole."

He's coming for your wallet, folks.

With just two days left, delegates to the annual U.N. climate conference haggled and cajoled into the night in search of compromise on a raft of issues, including whether industrial nations should generate $100 billion a year, or up to $600 billion, to help poorer countries cope with global warming.

You know if Obama and the Democrats thought they could get away for it they'd pick up the whole tab.

This ecocide nonsense has taken root already, with the UN squarely behind it. It's a crime against peace or something.

The proposal for the United Nations to accept "ecocide" as a fifth "crime against peace", which could be tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC), is the brainchild of British lawyer-turned-campaigner Polly Higgins.

The radical idea would have a profound effect on industries blamed for widespread damage to the environment like fossil fuels, mining, agriculture, chemicals and forestry.

Supporters of a new ecocide law also believe it could be used to prosecute "climate deniers" who distort science and facts to discourage voters and politicians from taking action to tackle global warming and climate change.

"Ecocide is in essence the very antithesis of life," says Higgins. "It leads to resource depletion, and where there is escalation of resource depletion, war comes chasing behind. Where such destruction arises out of the actions of mankind, ecocide can be regarded as a crime against peace."

Failed Socialist States Cuts Diplomatic Ties With Israel

I guess the Israelis can kiss that subsidized home heating oil goodbye. Oh wait, that only goes to the failed state of Massachusetts. Whatever. The jug-eared freak Hugo Chavez is severing diplomatic ties with Israel. I'm sure they're heartbroken.

Venezuela on Wednesday broke diplomatic ties with Israel over its deadly military offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to a government statement read on public television.

"The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in accordance with its vision of world peace, in solidarity and respect for human rights, has decided to definitively break diplomatic ties with Israel," the text said.

This comes on the heels of Bolivia doing the same today, so it's no surprise.

Bolivian President Evo Morales said on Wednesday his country cut diplomatic ties with Israel over the offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed hundreds of Palestinians.

"Bolivia had diplomatic relations with Israel," Morales said in a speech before diplomats in the government palace. "Considering these grave attacks against ... humanity, Bolivia will stop having diplomatic relations with Israel."

Morales, a leftist, is a close ally of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who on Jan. 6 expelled Israel's ambassador in protest over Gaza.

Venezuela is a major supplier of aid to Bolivia.

"The crimes committed by the Israeli government affect peace and stability in the world," said Morales, before calling the Israeli invasion of Gaza "a genocide."

Yawn.

Chavez a 'Major Facilitator' of Cocaine Trade, Admits Chewing Coca Leaves

Absolutely shocking, isn't it, that this thug might actually be involved in drug running?

A top US anti-drugs official has accused Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez of being a "major facilitator" of the trade in cocaine.

The official, John Walters, said Venezuela had become "a haven" for shipments of cocaine manufactured in neighbouring Colombia.

Venezuela rejects the charges, saying it is the victim of traffickers.

But Mr Walters, speaking on a visit to Colombia, said failure to deal with the problem amounted to complicity.

Mr Walters, director of the US Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), was meeting Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

US officials say about one third of Colombia's output of 600 tonnes of cocaine a year now passes through Venezuela, most of it going to America and Europe.

'Colluding'

Mr Walters said Mr Chavez had failed to root out corrupt officials or to deny Venezuelan ports and airfields to smugglers.

Such failure, he said, came from more than neglect.

"It goes beyond 'I can't do it' to 'I won't do it'. And 'I won't do it' means that 'I am colluding'," Mr Walters said.

"I think it is about time to face up to the fact that President Chavez is becoming a major facilitator of the transit of cocaine to Europe and other parts of this hemisphere."

Even the Washington Post recently noted how cozy a relationship Chavez has with Colombian drug traffickers.

Meanwhile, it's gone virtually unnoticed that Chavez has admitted chewing coca leaves on a daily basis.

Now wonder he's so popular with the Hollywood elite.

Venezuela's controversial President Hugo Chávez has revealed that he regularly consumes coca -- the source of cocaine -- raising questions about the legality of his actions.

Chávez's comments on coca initially went almost unnoticed, coming amid a four-hour speech to the National Assembly during which he made international headlines by calling on other countries to stop branding two leftist Colombian guerrilla groups as terrorists and instead recognize them as ``armies.''

''I chew coca every day in the morning . . . and look how I am,'' he is seen saying on a video of the speech, as he shows his biceps to the audience.

Chávez, who does not drink alcohol, added that just as Fidel Castro ''sends me Coppelia ice cream and a lot of other things that regularly reach me from Havana,'' Bolivian President Evo Morales ``sends me coca paste . . . I recommend it to you.''

It was not clear what Chávez meant. Indigenous Bolivians and Peruvians can legally chew coca leaves as a mild stimulant and to kill hunger. But coca paste is a semi-refined product -- between leaves and cocaine -- considered highly addictive and often smoked as basuco or pitillo.

''It is another symptom that [Chávez] has totally lost the concept of limits,'' said Aníbal Romero, a political scientist with the Caracas Metropolitan University. ``It shows Chávez is a man out of control.''

More seriously, Venezuelan and Bolivian analysts said Chávez's comments amount to a dangerous endorsement of a substance controlled around the world, and perhaps even an illegal act by a very public head of state.

''If he is affirming that he consumes coca paste, he is admitting that he is consuming a substance that is illegal in Bolivia as well as Venezuela,'' said Hernán Maldonado, a Bolivian analyst living in Miami. ''Plus, it's an accusation that Evo Morales is a narco-trafficker'' for sending him the paste.

Sunday he gets embarrassed by losing the referendum and now his military aircraft is chased away by people throwing stones.

Bolivians attack Venezuelan army plane with stones

In a violent show of anti-Venezuela sentiment, a crowd of about 200 Bolivians hurled stones at a Venezuelan military plane and prevented it from refueling after it landed on Thursday, local radio reported.

After hearing the incoming plane, the mob seized control of the airport in the Amazonian city of Riberalta and attacked the aircraft. Regional leaders had said they suspected it was carrying arms and not humanitarian supplies, according to the radio reports.

"We won't put up with these Venezuelans who come to the country and do whatever they want. We won't let any Venezuelan planes come here," Mario Aguilera, a Riberalta opposition leader told Erbol radio as the demonstrators chanted "Independence, Independence".

The incident forced the plane to take off without being able to refuel and the provincial airport director told Erbol it eventually landed across the border in Brazil.

Bolivia's leftist President Evo Morales has formed close ties with his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez since taking office last year, and his rightist opponents repeatedly criticize increased humanitarian and military cooperation.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said he will step down from office when his current term expires in 2013, following the defeat of his reform proposals.

Making his first public statement that he would step down as planned, Chavez said: "The reforms did not get passed, so I will have to leave power in 2013. I will work around the clock; until the very last day I have left here, I will work relentlessly."

Iran's leader courts Latin American leftists

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Bolivia on Thursday as part of the U.S. foe's drive to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with leftist Latin American leaders.

Ahmadinejad and Bolivian President Evo Morales signed cooperation accords on energy and industry, swapping compliments in a lovefest sure to rile U.S. diplomats and the country's rightist opposition.

"The people of Iran and Bolivia have decided to build their countries together, hand in hand ... they've decided to be friends with one another in difficult situations," Ahmadinejad told a news conference in La Paz, in translated comments.

Ahmadinejad is also due to visit Venezuela on Thursday, where he will meet with President Hugo Chavez, the region's most outspoken critic of Washington, to discuss a series of energy agreements.

Deeply at odds with the West over its nuclear program, Iran has gained influence in Latin America as anti-U.S. sentiment has risen among leftist leaders such as Chavez and Morales.
