In Wake Of Obama Visit Georgia Unemployment Hits Record High

The PrezBo was in Savannah, Georgia yesterday to talk about jobs and how much government handouts were going to spark the economy.

Wait for it.

It's gonna happen....trust me.

Today the unemployment numbers for Georgia were announced, and I am sure the national figure due to be released later this week on Friday is going to reflect the same trend. The Georgia unemployment rate is now 10.4%. And getting worse.

The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January was 10.4 percent, topping the previous record high of 10.3 percent a month earlier.

I know this is local type stuff, but it is my world where I live. In addition to working for a company that is squarely in the crosshairs of this administration this just adds to the growing ulcer threatening to burst out like some sort of alien birth.

I don't know what the tipping point is before the current administration realizes that they are doing more harm then good, or is that their intentions all along. It sure seems like they are tone deaf to our economic woes or else they are just so damn stubborn that they will take this country off the cliffs like lemmings to the sea. Whichever it is, somebody needs to figure out how to snap them out of it or at least the very least just get them to stop.

Go play basketball for 6 months Barry. Take Nancy and Harry with you and all of those economic advisers you got. Quit thinking that throwing more money around is the solution. The answer lies beyond that. The answer is contained in an intangible thing called confidence.

Ronald Reagan projected it. Peyton Manning exudes it. Hell the kid that is the captain of the eighth grade debate team has it. Until the private sections of this country have some confidence that things will get better, they won't.

So please Mr President, go do nothing. Have congress do the same. Everyday y'all show up for work is another day when the private sector waits to see which one of them is going to attacked or legislated to death.

I think Tip O'Neill is generally credited with saying that all politics is local and that is true.

Jobless Claims Up, Retail Sales Down

Of course both of these events were "unexpected". Unexpected by the "educated class" maybe, but not unexpected by those of us still out slugging it out in these hard economic times.

The 6.2 percent fall in the government's retail sales figure is only the second decline on records that go back to 1992. In all other years, even during previous recessions, retail sales, which are not adjusted for inflation, have managed to increase.

The other year that retail sales declined? 2008.

That makes two years in a row.

The news on the job front is no better. The pace of layoffs and those filing for unemployment has slowed, but there is no hiring going on either.
The number of newly laid-off workers requesting unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week as jobs remain scarce amid a sluggish economic recovery.

The Labor Department said Thursday new claims for unemployment insurance rose by 11,000 to a seasonally adjusted 444,000. Wall Street economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected an increase of only 3,000.

While the economy in MI continues to tank under the leadership of it's Democrat politicians and policies their business is heading south, literally. Kia is opening a plant in GA shortly and just posted a notice for job applicants. Average salary is going to be around $50K and now news that VW is looking at Georgia also, among others. Georgia has been actively courting foreign auto makers and we have lost a couple bids. The Ford and GM plants in the Atlanta have either already closed are will be closed shortly.

And just to add to the south's claim of being the center of the automotive industry let's not forget it is also home to NASCAR, whose headquarters is in NC.
