It's Come To This: Jim McGreevey Offering Advice to Mark Sanford

Nothing like the media seeking commentary from a man who trolled New Jersey Turnpike rest areas for anonymous gay sex. Say what you want about Mark Sanford, but the last guy to be chiming in should be Jim McGreevey.

Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey today told Gov. Mark Sanford, the beleaguered governor of South Carolina, to "move forward with humility," comparing Sanford's struggles with what McGreevey called his "own moment of truth," during an interview on The Today show this morning.

"I'm filled with a sense of pain and anguish for him and for his family," McGreevey said in the interview. "I think it was a very human moment."

Sandford [sic] admitted Wednesday he had secretly flown to Argentina to visit a woman with whom he was having an affair, after a widely covered disappearance over Father's Day weekend.

McGreevey had a similarly shocking news conference in 2004, where he revealed he was having a secret affair with Golan Cipel, one of his aides, and declared in front of television cameras to be a "gay American."

On the upside, he managed to avoid cracking any Sarah Palin jokes.

It's now up to a judge to decide how much alimony and child support to award the soon-to-be ex-wife of New Jersey's gay former governor, following three weeks of testimony laying bare the couple's dire finances.

Lawyers delivered their final arguments Wednesday, wrapping up the money phase in the bitter divorce of Jim McGreevey and Dina Matos.

Matos has asked the judge for $2,500 a month alimony for four years, $1,750 a month support, and for McGreevey to foot her legal bills for the divorce, which exceed $250,000. McGreevey does not want to pay alimony, and is hoping to be assessed support payments of about $100 a month.

The judge is not expected to rule until July, at the earliest.

A final phase in the divorce — Matos' claim that she was duped into marrying a gay man who thought he needed a wife to advance his political ambitions — won't be heard until after the money issues are settled. The fraud claim, if it reaches trial, could include salacious testimony from a former campaign aide who claims to have had sexual trysts with the McGreeveys.

During Wednesday's summation, Matos' lawyer John Post challenged McGreevey's claim that he's broke, saying the 50-year-old seminary student is intentionally under-earning to avoid paying alimony. Post also dismissed a claim by a McGreevey-hired employment expert who testified that the former governor is so tainted by scandal that he's "radioactive" in the work world.

He may be radioactive, but he does know how to accessorize.

In a stunning development, the Associated Press noted McGreevey is a Democrat. I call that progress.

Jim McGreevey, the former governor of New Jersey, has confirmed reports that he and his wife had sexual encounters with a male aide while he was serving as a local official and running for governor, according to the Associated Press.

"This happened, this happened in the past, and now we need to move on with our lives," McGreevey tells the wire service.

His ex-wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, tells the wire service that the published claims are "completely false."

The story broke when Theodore Pedersen, a longtime aide to the Democratic politician, told reporters that he has testified under oath as part of the couple's acrimonious divorce proceedings that the three of them had consensual sex on a number of occasions between 1999 and 2001.

"It's frustrating to hear her call Gov. Spitzer a hypocrite while she's out there being as dishonest as anyone could be about her own life," Pedersen, 29, tells the New York Post.

"She's framed herself as a victim - yet she was a willing participant. She had complete control over what happened in her relationship," he tells the Post.

"She was there, she knew what was happening, she made the moves. We all did. It's disgusting to watch her play the victim card."

In a separate interview, Pedersen tells The (Newark) Star Ledger that the three of them called the encounters "Friday Night Specials."

Well, now that we've pretty much picked clean the carcass of now former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, reports this morning drag us back to the ongoing McGreevey saga here in New Jersey.

The Gay American, Jim McGreevey, who resigned in disgrace back in 2004, has been embroiled in a nasty divorce saga with his ex-wife, Dina Matos.

Matso has portrayed herself as the innocent victim (gosh, I had no idea he was gay!), but according to testimony from one Teddy Pedersen, that's all BS.

A former driver and aide to former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey yesterday made the bombshell claim that Dina Matos McGreevey must have always known her husband was gay - because he was the other man in bed with them.

In an explosive interview with The Post, the McGreeveys' self-professed man in the middle, Teddy Pedersen, gave explicit details of three-way sex romps that he claimed to have had with the now-divorcing duo, starting during their courtship and continuing into the marriage.

Pedersen - who said he had already spilled the beans on the ménage a trois arrangement under oath in a deposition for the couple's divorce battle - hinted that he thinks his presence was required to get Jim's motor running for Dina.

Matos McGreevey's basic argument in her divorce war with the former gov is that he covered up his homosexuality and tricked her into a loveless marriage.

Pedersen - who is named in Matos McGreevey's court papers - agreed to talk about the alleged unconventional relationship after Dina sounded off to the media last week about Eliot Spitzer's sex scandal.

The threesomes began in the late 1990s, while Dina and Jim were dating, continued after their October 2000 marriage, and had ended by the time McGreevey was elected governor in November 2001, Pedersen said. "He liked watching me, and she would watch me while she was [performing sex acts] with Jim," Pedersen said. "In my opinion, me being a part of their sexual relationship enhanced it for both of them."

Pedersen did not say if he was gay or bisexual and only described having contact with Matos McGreevey during the trysts. He also said he never knew for sure if McGreevey was gay.

"I had heard the rumors in circles outside of work," he said. "In hindsight, there might have been light interest (in me), but it didn't seem like he was gay. It did enhance their sexual relationship having me be a part of it."

Neither of the McGreeveys returned calls for comment. Their lawyers declined to comment on Pedersen's claims.

Pedersen, 29, served as a driver and traveling aide for McGreevey during his gubernatorial campaign and after he won office in 2001. McGreevey attended Pedersen's graduation from Rutgers University in 2003 and Pedersen accompanied the governor and others in a trip to China last year.

His assertions mark the latest broadside in a particularly public and searing divorce case that has brought back to life the seamy personal issues that erupted when McGreevey resigned almost four years ago.

Matos McGreevey claims the onetime Woodbridge mayor duped her into marriage in 2000 to further his political career, and that she had no clue about his sexual preference until just before he resigned in August 2004, when he announced he was gay and had an affair with an aide.

Photos of a shirtless Vladimir Putin on vacation in Siberia have stirred numerous debates and set hearts aflutter. But some of the photos of him taken on the same trip -- topless and with a rifle -- were only made available to the Russian media.

Apparently Russian President Vladimir Putin thinks that the world can handle him with weapons and him without a shirt on, but not both at the same time.

Yes, Russia, it would seem that that is for your eyes only.

Whereas shirtless photos of the Russian president were released almost three weeks ago, showing him topless while fishing, hiking and horseback riding, a new photo has appeared in the Russian press from that same trip that shows him walking through the brush shirtless and with a rifle.

The photos of the 54-year-old statesman come from his camping trip with Prince Albert II of Monaco to Siberia near its border with Mongolia. In the photos, Putin wears boots, green military-style pants, a bush hat and a long, sheathed knife at his waist.

Other recent photos showed the judo black belt at the MAKS-2007 Air Show outside Moscow, where the Russia military aviation industry tried to impress with its hardware and fancy formation flying.

But last week, the Russian tabloid Argumenty i fakty printed an exclusive photo of Putin tromping Rambo-like through the Siberian bush. His pants are barely discernable in the photos and, if it weren't for the comparison to be found in the other photos, one might even think he was 100 percent au naturale.

A competing paper, Komsomolskaja Prawda, ran a "Be Like Putin" article instructing men on exercises they can do to develop a robust torso like Putin's.

Taken together, the photos have caused quite a stir. Newspapers and other information sources have widely reported on the positive echo Putin's photos have found among Russia's women and have claimed that photos of the fit former KGB agent have been circulating like wildfire through gay chat-rooms on the Internet. Comparisons to "Brokeback Mountain," the 2005 film about the homosexual relationship of two cowboys in Wyoming, have also been made to the camping trip of the Putin and Prince Albert.

Meanwhile, in other gay news, it appears the Gay American is heading to seminary school.

September 1, 2007 -- The nation's first openly gay governor is headed back to school Tuesday - as a seminary student.

Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey will begin full-time studies at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in Manhattan, seminary spokesman Bruce Parker confirmed.

McGreevey switched his religious affiliation from Roman Catholic to Episcopalian this year and expressed interest in pursuing a call to ministry.

Polk County Judge Robert Hanson temporarily cleared the way for same-sex couples across the state to apply for marriage licenses in the county when he ruled Thursday that Iowa's 1998 Defense of Marriage Act, which allowed marriage only between a man and a woman, violated the constitutional rights of due process and equal protection.

McGreevey Mulls Episcopal Priesthood

It just keeps getting weirder with the disgraced Jim McGreevey.

Former Gov. James E. McGreevey has started the process to become a priest in his newly adopted Episcopal faith and hopes to begin a three-year seminary program in the fall.

McGreevey, who often described himself as a devout Catholic while in public office, was officially received into the Episcopal religion on Sunday, at St. Bartholomew's Church in Manhattan, and is now part of the church's "discernment" phase that usually precedes any seminary work, said the Rev. Kevin Bean, vicar at St. Bartholomew.

Maybe he can preside over his inevitable gay marriage ceremony.
