Civility Update: NY Democrat Avoids Jail for Attacking Photographer

Having that "D" after your name must be great. You can go wild and attack photographers and not have the slightest concern about going to jail. Let alone losing your office and all the perks that come with it. Of course if that were to be the case then you'd just play the race card and menacingly call a Senate colleague a bitch.

You can skip paying your mortgage and when you're exposed as a deadbeat, you then go beat up a photographer.

Now he walks with a small fine. No doubt he's learned his lesson.

State Sen. Kevin Parker was sentenced today to three years probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine after a Brooklyn jury found him guilty last year of damaging a Post photographer's camera after the lensman snapped pictures of him outside the politician's Flatbush home.

Parker was also ordered to attend anger management classes and pay The Post back $672 to cover the cost of broken equipment.

Parker was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief in the May 2009 attack and faces up to two years in prison.

In December, the jury cleared Parker of intentionally damaging and attempting to steal William Lopez's camera -- felonies that would have meant automatic expulsion from the Senate had he been convicted.

Maybe Obama can sign him up for his anti-bullying campaign.

Racist Democrat Flips Out: 'He Lost Control of Himself'

Quick, someone call the Southern Poverty Law Center, Frank Rich and Bill Clinton. We've got an out-of-control racist Democrat on our hands here and he's clearly a threat to the public.

Hothead state Sen. Kevin Parker erupted again Tuesday, this time with a race-based rant that rattled even his supporters.

"He needs help," said Sen. Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx), an ally who witnessed the latest angry outbursts. "He lost control of himself."

Parker exploded in anger at fellow Sen. John DeFrancisco, a Syracuse Republican, who was questioning a nominee to the New York Power Authority.

DeFrancisco, who is white, asked Mark O'Luck, who is black, about the nominee's prior claim that without programs for minorities, whites and the affluent "would have access to nearly 100%" of government funding.

As DeFrancisco told O'Luck he can't fault everyone who's prospered, Parker began screaming that the GOPer was "out of order."

"How dare you!" Parker shouted, at one point referring to "you racist people in here."

"I've never seen a white appointee be treated like this, in such rude fashion!" the Brooklyn Democrat yelled.

In a scene straight out of the Al Pacino movie "And Justice for All," Parker was repeatedly ruled out order.

"You're out of order!" he screamed back. "This committee's out of order!"

Amid the nearly two-minute tirade, committee chairman Carl Krueger (D-Brooklyn) told Parker he would be removed from the hearing room if he didn't settle down.

"Then get somebody to remove me," he said. "Bring people, though."

DeFrancisco later had little to say about the incident. "It speaks for itself," he said.

Parker dismissed the incident as a "heated debate" - but maintained DeFrancisco's line of questioning was beneath the "decorum" of the Senate.

He shrugged off his warning to Krueger to "bring people," saying, "We're all prone to hyperbole."

Parker, who had been ordered to anger management after being accused of punching a traffic agent, is currently under felony indictment on a charge he assaulted a news photographer.

Earlier this year the charming Parker charged a white state senator and called her a bitch. He's currently under indictment for assaulting a photographer. Parker also is a deadbeat, having ignored paying his mortgage for years.

So the question remains: Why do Democrats tolerate these violent, racist types in their ranks?

'Do You Want a Piece of Me?'

Seems the New York State Senate is turning into a low-brow version of the WWE. Here we have a thug named Kevin Parker, who in 2005 beat up a traffic agent for ticketing him and last year assaulted a New York Post photographer, now physically threatening other members of this esteemed body.

Hotheaded state Sen. Kevin Parker erupted again.

Parker "charged" toward a female colleague Tuesday night during heated, closed-door squabbling over whether to toss Hiram Monserrate from the chamber, Senate sources said.

The Brooklyn Democrat took several steps toward Sen. Diane Savino (D-S.I.) as the two engaged in a profanity-laced argument during the contentious Democratic conference, the sources said.

Parker dropped several "f-bombs" and called Savino "a b----" as she tried to explain why Monserrate could be immediately expelled with Republican votes, the sources said.

Let's play a little role reversal here for a minute. How do you think a white man would be treated if he called a black woman a bitch and tossed the f-bomb her way?

An enraged Parker, who opposed Monserrate's ouster, "went a little ballistic, swearing and screaming that the Republicans have no right to dictate what goes on in our house," one senator said.

Three Monserrate supporters - Sens. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn), Ruben Diaz Sr. (D-Bronx) and Carl Kruger (D-Brooklyn) - started yelling and egging Parker on, several sources said.

When Savino told Parker to stop interrupting her, Parker is said to have yelled, "F--k you!"

Savino responded in kind and Parker stormed at her, the source said.

Senate Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey Klein (D-Bronx) jumped up and told Parker not to scream at Savino that way, the sources said.

Parker then swore at Klein and asked, "Do you want a piece of me?"

"If that's what it takes to stop this," Klein responded, the sources said.

I guess Parker is a bit touchy about his fellow Democrats getting booted from office.

Parker, known for his explosive temper, is under indictment for assaulting a news photographer. He faces automatic expulsion if convicted of a felony.

In 2005, he was charged with punching a traffic agent and was ordered to undergo anger management counseling.

I'm assuming he flunked out of his anger management classes.

Parker is also quite fond of Governor David Paterson.

Let me tell you, nobody quite brings the comedy like New York Democrats. Could you imagine the reaction if a Republican said something like this about David Paterson?

Albany's dysfunctional follies veered further into the inane on Thursday: Gov. Paterson cut off some Senate pay, a lawmaker branded the governor a "coke snorting" womanizer and the Senate - once again - accomplished nothing.

The only sign of progress in ending the impasse that began June 8 with a Republican-led coup was that warring senators agreed not to battle for the gavel.

Democrats and Republicans held short, separate sessions in which they did no business. Sources hinted that a deal may be near - but there were no details.

Among the day's lowlights:

- Paterson ordered that the per diems and travel expenses paid to do-nothing senators be withheld.

- Democrats blasted the governor for keeping them in Albany day after day and hot-headed Sen. Kevin Parker called Paterson a "coke snorting, staff-banging governor." Paterson has admitted youthful drug use and several extra-marital affairs.

Parker isn't one to talk.

Parker, who is under indictment for felony assault, said lawmakers don't need a "coke snorting, staff-banging governor to lecture us about behavior in government."

He was unapologetic about the attack.

NY Democrat Indicted on Assault Charges For Attack on Photographer

Classy bunch, these NY State Senate Democrats. This is now the second one indicted on felony assault charges this year.

Sen. Kevin Parker was indicted on multiple assault, harassment and criminal mischief charges today in connection with his May 8 attack on a New York Post photographer, Kings County DA Charles Hynes announced.

From the press release:

"The charges include Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Menacing in the Third Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree. If convicted, Parker faces up to seven years in prison.

An indictment is an accusatory instrument and not proof of defendant’s guilt.

The second degree assault charge is Class D felony; criminal mischief in the third degree is a Class E felony. The others are all misdemeanors

Parker is the second Senate Democrat to be indicted on felony charges since the party took the majority last November.

The first, of course, was Sen. Hiram Monserrate, who also faces up to seven years in prison if he's convicted on charges that he assaulted his girlfriend with a broken glass.

Monserrate's attorneys are trying to get his indictment quashed, arguing that one of the grand jurors was a cop in the precinct that investigated him.

In response to the news about Parker, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith's spokesman Austin Shafran offered the following comment:

"Sen. Smith has already taken the most severe action he is empowered to against Sen. Parker and now we will have to let the legal process run its due course."

This morning we noted New York State Senator Kevin Parker's angry attack on a New York Post photographer and now he's looking for some preferential treatment, whining that actor Kiefer Sutherland got easier treatment than he did.

Violence-prone State Sen. Kevin Parker wants the star treatment.

A lawyer for the senator, who was arrested last night for attacking a Post photographer, complained that television star Kiefer Sutherland got softer handling after he allegedly head-butted a fashion designer Monday.

"Kiefer Sutherland broke someone's nose and got a desk appearance ticket," said lawyer Lonnie Hart. "He was able to surrender himself and walk out a few hours later."

Parker - who was charged with a felony, while Sutherland was charged with a misdemeanor -- spent the night in jail after he allegedly chased Post photographer Willy Lopez around the block then crawled into Lopez's car in an attempt to wrest the camera away.

Parker managed to kick the door panel off Lopez's Suburu and broke his $400 flash into pieces before he calmed down, said Lopez.

Can't be long until Parker plays the race card. In the meantime, he might want to consider some more anger management classes.

Parker was forced to take anger management classes after he punched a traffic agent who attempted to ticket him for double parking in the head four years ago.

A former aide also accused him of manhandling her and crushing her glasses under foot during a heated argument last year. She pressed charges but no arrest was made.

When asked if his rage should prevent Parker from holding public office any longer, Hart said: "The facts are what they are. People can draw their own conclusions."

Meanwhile, Parker has been stripped of his leadership position.

Parker's leadership lulu is $22,000. Lawmakers are only allowed one lulu each, so he doesn't get a stipend for the committee chairmanship.

For the record, Smith acted more quickly in Parker's case than he moved in deciding the fate of Sen. Hiram Monserrate after his arrest and felony assault charge.

Monserrate was arrested in December 2008 - while he was still techincally a member of the City Council and several weeks before he was sworn in as a senator.

Smith, under pressure to make a decision about Monserrate, didn't act until the second week in January - after the vote that decided his leadership status, for which he very much needed Monserrate's support.

When Deadbeat Democrats Attack

What is it with these angry Democrats? Do they just expect nobody will notice they haven't paid their mortgage for over a year?

State Sen. Kevin Parker -- a vocal supporter of foreclosure relief for troubled homeowners -- has good reason to take that position.

His own two-story Flatbush house is in danger of being repossessed.

According to court papers, Parker, a four-term Democrat representing Brooklyn's 21st Senatorial District, hasn't paid a dime in more than a year toward the $488,000 mortgage he took out in 2006.

The bank, DLJ Mortgage Capital, Inc., is running out of patience.

"You are in danger of losing your home," the ominous foreclosure complaint, filed in November 2008, warns in capital letters on the cover page.

Property records show that Parker bought the one-family, brick row house on Bedford Avenue in December 2006 for $610,000, borrowing $488,000 from New Century Mortgage Corporation.

New Century, which has since folded, unloaded the loan onto DLJ Mortgage Capital, which claims in the lawsuit that it received only its first eight monthly payments of $3,329.20 each.

DLJ waited a little more than a year before beginning the foreclosure action.

Parker isn't taking things well.

Brooklyn state Sen. Kevin Parker was busted last night after allegedly attacking a New York Post photographer who was trying to take his picture, police said.

Parker, a Democrat from the 21st District, became enraged when Post staff photographer William C. Lopez snapped a shot of him getting out of a car at his parents' home on Avenue H in Flatbush at about 7 p.m.

Lopez, who filed a formal complaint with cops, said he was standing on a public street -- where it's legal to take pictures -- when he shot the photo of the politician.

Shortly after the flash went off, the hulking Parker started chasing him, the photographer said.

"I'm standing in the street, I took one photograph of him and he charged at me," Lopez recalled.

"I turned around and ran and he was actually catching up to me. I turned a corner and ran half a block and he's chasing me the entire way."
