Jihadi Enabling Lawyer Gets Extension on Sentence

Our favorite terrorist enabling civil rights attorney is going to get a little more time in jail to write her memoirs.

A judge had resentenced a 70-year-old civil rights lawyer to 10 years in prison for letting a jailed Egyptian sheik communicate with his radical followers.

Federal Judge John Koeltl sentenced Lynne Stewart in Manhattan after she pleaded with him to reimpose the two-year, four-month sentence he had originally given her in 2006. She said she has been diminished since her November imprisonment.

An appeals court had ordered a new sentencing, saying the judge needed to consider whether she committed perjury. Koeltl says she did and he says she lacked remorse after her first sentencing.

Just a little good news to get your Friday morning off to a good start. No doubt the cracker is calling Eric Holder right now to intercede on her behalf. If only she was in the country illegally.

Prosecutors: Radical Hag Lynne Stewart Deserves Lengthier Sentence

I figure since they won't execute her then life in prison will suffice, especially since this terrorist-loving beast is most unrepentant.

Attorney Lynne Stewart, convicted of helping an extremist cleric pass messages from prison to terrorist followers, deserves an enhanced sentence because of statements she made after her conviction and sentencing, U.S. prosecutors said.

A federal appeals court in New York in November ruled that Stewart, 70 should be resentenced in a way that reflects the “seriousness” of her crime. U.S. District Judge John Koeltl in Manhattan, who originally sentenced Stewart to 28 months in prison and is presiding over the case, has scheduled her resentencing for July 15.

Stewart was convicted by a federal jury in New York in 2005 for helping her former client, the blind Egyptian sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, smuggle messages to followers in defiance of U.S. prison restrictions. Stewart, who was free pending appeal, was ordered to prison Nov. 19 and is currently being held at a federal jail in lower Manhattan.

“Stewart has made it clear that if given the opportunity to engage in the unlawful conduct for which she now stands convicted she would do it again,” federal prosecutors in the office of Preet Bharara said in court papers.

Stewart’s lawyers argued in court papers that the 28-month term imposed by Koeltl was “reasonable, just and satisfied the purposes of sentencing.”

“Ms. Stewart’s 28-month sentence is reasonable, especially when viewed alongside sentences in other terrorism prosecutions, including those where the defendants joined terrorist groups and clearly intended that harm would result from their actions,” wrote Stewart’s lawyers, Liz Fink and Jill Shellow.

Her lawyers said Koeltl, who presided over the nine-month trial, was in the best position to know the appropriate term to impose and that longer terms imposed in other terrorism cases cited by an appeals court judge were for crimes which occurred after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Defense lawyers argued she hadn’t committed perjury during the trial and that she didn’t know the true terrorist nature of followers of Rahman.

Fink wasn’t immediately available for comment yesterday and federal prosecutors declined to comment on the case.

Prosecutors said in court papers that Stewart deserves an “enhanced” sentence. While the U.S. didn’t ask for the 30-year prison term which they’d previously requested, they said they would make a recommendation at a later date about what kind of sentence would be “appropriate.”

The government said Stewart deserved a harsher term because was likely to continue breaking the law, citing statements Stewart made in interviews in the days after the appeals court’s decision.

“I’d like to think I would not do anything differently,” Stewart said in an interview with the Democracy Now Network on Nov. 18, prosecutors quoted her as saying. “I think it was necessary. I would do it again. I might handle it a little differently, but I would do it again.”

Her own words make the case for a long stay in prison. A permanent residence there will do.

An overflow crowd of graying leftists -- some wearing oversize, homemade buttons and T-shirts saying "Peace with Iran" -- greeted Stewart with applause when she entered Manhattan federal court in the custody of U.S. Marshals.

Some nitwit supporters are trolling the comments for the story with sob story pleas for this witch.

The NY Post deliberately used the most unattractive photo of Lynne they could find. By contrast, The New York Times always uses pictures of Lynne that are very flattering. Lynne is a sweet old grandmother whose grandchildren adore her. You should be so lucky as to have a grandmother as nice as Lynne, who would go to bat for you when everybody else turned their back against you. Society needs people like Lynne Stewart to stand up for the poor, the oppressed, and the despised. All she did was make a lousy phone call to a Reuters reporter. Come on, get real. She was railroaded.

Judge Orders Lynne Stewart to Prison Immediately

As if we needed further evidence why having terror masterminds on trial in New York City is a terrible idea, we'll remind everyone of this piece of human debris known as Lynne Stewart. Get a good look at her. You likely won't be seeing that face for awhile.

Disbarred radical lawyer Lynne Stewart is going to jail - maybe for a lot longer than she thought.

A federal appeals court Tuesday upheld her conviction for smuggling messages to her jailed terrorist client, and said she deserves more than the 28 months she got because she may have lied at her trial.

Stewart, 70, is to surrender to U.S. Marshals immediately. The Brooklyn resident has been free on bail since 2006.

She was sentenced to two years and four months in prison in 2005 for helping Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman talk to militants from prison after his 1996 conviction for plotting to blow up bridges and tunnels in New York City and assassinate Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Let's hope Eric Holder's former associates are paying attention to Stweart's plight.

Lynne Stewart is the radical attorney who has been indicted by Attorney General John Ashcroft for enabling her client, the terrorist Sheik, Omar Abdul Rahman, to carry out his murderous agendas while in prison by helping him to communicate with his terrorist organization in Egypt. Rahman was the spiritual leader of a cell that carried out the first World Trade Center bombing and was planning to blow up the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels. Stewart was recruited to the Rahman case by Lyndon Johnson's Attorney General, Ramsey Clark, who has a long history of anti-American causes dating back to the Vietnam War.

Ramsey Clark is the founder of the International Action Committee (IAC), a pro-Saddam, pro-Milosevic organization that regards America as the world's leading and most threatening terrorist state. In a previous article about the "peace" organization A.N.S.W.E.R (March 29, 2002), I noted IAC's interlinking directorate with the Workers World Party (WWP), a Stalinist organization which was created in 1959 as a splinter of the Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party. In that year, WWP leader Sam Marcy and his comrades supported the Soviet suppression of the Hungarian Revolution which had sought unsuccessfully to break free from the Soviet empire. WWP cadres staff the IAC offices and share political platforms. For example, WWP leaders spoke at an IAC rally in 1995 condemning Republicans generally and The Contract with America, specifically. Among them was Gavrielle Gemma, who has been credited with recruiting Clark to the IAC.

By the way, since my topic in today's column is Attorney General Holder's sudden concern over delays in the military commission system, it's worth pointing out that, for conduct that started around 1999, Stewart was indicted in 2002; her trial did not begin until mid-2004 and took about eight months; after that, they dawdled for over a year before finally imposing sentence in October 2006; now, a decade after the conduct, seven years after arrest, four years after trial, and three years after sentence — and mind you, she's been free on bail since 2002 — the appeal has at long last been decided, and it has resulted in . . . a remand for further sentencing proceedings. And, after they someday occur, there will surely be another trip to the Second Circuit, and then an appeal to the Supreme Court. After that, the habeas corpus petitions start . . .

Boy, how time flies. I remember this incident like it was yesterday.

This was back during the beginning of the crack epidemic that decimated New York City and the incident led to massive racial polarization that later climaxed during the disastrous Dinkins administration.

A Bronx man notorious for a 1986 shoot-out with the NYPD has been killed in prison.

New York State prison officials say Larry Davis, 41, was stabbed to death Wednesday night at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County.

A prison spokesman says Davis -- seen above in a 2002 jailhouse interview with NY1 --was stabbed multiple times throughout his body.

Another inmate is being questioned in connection with the killing.

In 1986 Davis wounded six police officers in a gunfight inside a Bronx apartment building. Police had been searching for him in connection with the killings of several drug dealers.

Davis, however, claimed police were after him because he knew about NYPD corruption.

Here's an interesting account relating a story of a run-in with Davis back in the 1980's, which also points out Davis committed a murder while in prison, a fact omitted from current news accounts from what I can see.

Terror Lawyer: I'd Do It Again

This vile creature should have long ago been executed. Instead, she's lecturing at Hofstra University while rubbing our noses in it.

Apparently, the health problems that prevented her incarceration aren't slowing her down.

Disbarred terror lawyer Lynne Stewart held court at Hofstra yesterday - unrepentant about the help she gave to a World Trade Center bombing conspirator.

Stewart was convicted in 2005 of smuggling secret messages out of prison for Islamic terrorist Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman. Yesterday, she spoke at a panel discussion at the school's Hempstead campus to a packed room of about 200 people.

Dozens more watched on closed-circuit TV in an adjacent room.

She denied aiding terrorism, claiming she was just overzealous in the defense of her client, and said she would appeal the conviction.

"We're going to fight this until the cows come home," she said.

Stewart helped Abdel-Rahman, who was convicted of planning a massive terror-bombing campaign in New York, pass messages to an Egyptian associate posing as a translator while she pretended to ask questions.

She later called her performance Academy Award-worthy, but yesterday said that was "an unfortunate remark."

She called Abdel-Rahman himself "a remarkable man," and said, "Yes, I would do it again, but I would do it differently."

Stewart said even though she represents clients who are reviled, "I don't do cops who kill kids on the streets of Brooklyn."

Maybe Randi Rhodes can have her on as a guest when she recovers.

A disbarred lawyer convicted of aiding terrorists will be teaching at an upcoming law school ethics conference.

Lynne Stewart, who was found guilty of conspiring with terrorist Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, will be speaking October 16 at Hofstra Law School�s "Legal Ethics: Lawyering on the Edge," in Hempstead, New York.

The speaking engagement comes only a year after Stewart was sentenced to twenty-eight months in prison on charges of conspiracy and providing material support to terrorists.

Prosecutors alleged that Stewart had passed on messages to Abdel Rahman's radical Muslim followers, authorizing a resumption of terrorist operations against the Egyptian government.

Disgusting.

Lynne Stewart Disbarred

The terrorist supporter Lynne Stewart finally has been disbarred. What annoys me is she's not idling away in a super max facility, or better yet, facing a firing squad.

She's still out on the street, but convicted terror helper Lynne Stewart is out of the legal profession.

A state appeals court yesterday formally disbarred Stewart, officially ending her 30-year career as a lawyer.

The Appellate Division made the disbarment retroactive to Feb. 10, 2005. That's the date she was convicted of providing material support to terrorists by helping her jailed client, blind Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, communicate with his followers. He is the suspected mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Over two years ago she was convicted, yet this piece of garbage still walks free. Ridiculous.
