John Edwards proposed to his baby mama, Rielle Hunter, during a holiday getaway -- and introduced her and their love child to his kids -- barely three weeks after their mother, Elizabeth Edwards, died of cancer, the National Enquirer reported yesterday.

The former Democratic presidential candidate brought his children -- Cate, 28, Jack, 10 and Emma Claire, 12 -- for the first meeting with his ex-campaign videographer and their 2-year-old half-sister, Frances Quinn Hunter, at a chain eatery called the Macaroni Grill in Charlotte, NC.

"After discussing it with a friend, Rielle said she decided to tell John's kids, 'Call me Mommy,'" the Enquirer reported, quoting a source close to the family.

The paper said the ex-North Carolina senator spent Christmas at his family's Chapel Hill home, then hauled his brood to a lodge near Charlotte, where Rielle, 46, lives with Frances Quinn.

Edwards, according to the Enquirer's source, had thought it was time for the still-grieving Jack and Emma to meet Frances Quinn. The two children had known of their half-sister, but Elizabeth had banned such a meeting from occurring, the source said.

The tabloid reported that Hunter wept with joy at the sight of the children together.

Edwards then "pledged his undying love" for his mistress and "promised her that one day, they would all 'become one big, happy family,' " according to an Enquirer source.

"Clearly, he was saying, 'I want you to marry me,' but nothing is official yet."

'Falling In Love With You Could Really F--k Up My Plans for Becoming President'

That may be the most truthful thing the Silky Pony has ever uttered. Who knows, if he's dealt the wrong cards he may even wind up in prison one of these days.

John Edwards' mistress has revealed for the first time how the illicit lovers fell in lust and slept together the night they met -- and claims the presidential candidate predicted the wild romp would cause his premature ejection from politics.

"Falling in love with you could really f- - - up my plans for becoming president," Edwards told vixen videographer Rielle Hunter after their sexual tryst at Manhattan's Regency hotel in February 2006.

In her bombshell interview with GQ, Hunter says:

* Her first words to him were "You're so hot" -- and they had sex later that night in his hotel room.

* Edwards was scared to death of his cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth, fearing if she knew the truth, "he would be pummeled."

* The then-presidential candidate hoped Hunter, pregnant with his child, would get an abortion.

Contrary to various accounts of their affair, Hunter, 45, told the magazine she met the former North Carolina senator on the corner of 61st Street and Park Avenue in February 2006, and did not pick him up at a bar.

She had spotted him earlier in the lounge of The Regency hotel, but they did not speak.

"I did not know who he was," Hunter said. "The John Edwards I saw in 2004 on TV I believed to be a disconnected, two-dimensional geek kind of guy. And the man sitting across the room was not that at all."

After learning who he was, she gave her business card to one of Edwards' aides.

"It said, 'Rielle Hunter. Being is free,' " she recalled.

Edwards, 56, later looked for her at the lounge and was disappointed she was gone, she said.

"So when he walked around the corner [again] and saw me standing there, he lit up like a Christmas tree. And I thought his reaction when he saw me was just so cute," she said. "I mean, he looked like a little kid at Christmas. And I just uttered to him, 'You're so hot.' And he said, 'Why, thank you!' And he almost jumped into my arms. Literally."

Later that night, Hunter said, he invited her to his hotel room.

She said she told the friends she was with, " 'I won't sleep with him.' And so I went over to his room, and I walked in. And I. Was. Terrified. Because I had never experienced anything like what was flowing between us."

"Come closer. I won't bite you," Edwards beckoned.

Can this sordid tale get any weirder? You bet.

When Edwards denied he was the baby's father in interviews and his aide Andrew Young came forward to claim paternity, Hunter said she was heartbroken but understood.

Edwards "was traumatized," she said. "Because he had been living a life that was now exposed. A hidden life, when it is exposed, is a traumatic event for the person going through it. And they're not in their right mind."

She said Young was willing to take the fall for Edwards because "Andrew was in love with Johnny.

"In love with him. Beyond. And I believe he loved Johnny more than he loved [his own wife] Cheri, so Johnny was the third person in their relationship."

John Edwards has proposed to his mistress Rielle Hunter, and is buying a luxury $3.5 million beachfront home where they can live happily ever after with their love child, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

The disgraced presidential candidate popped the question at the same time he told Rielle that he'd be issuing a press statement finally confirming he fathered her daughter Frances Quinn, close sources told The ENQUIRER.

Edwards, 56, released that statement on Jan. 21, and just six days later a spokesperson for his cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth confirmed the couple had legally separated after 32 years of marriage. Sources say they expect to be officially divorced within a year, paving the way for the ex-senator to make Rielle, 45, his wife.

"John dropped the proposal bomb on Rielle shortly before he issued his statement" that he was indeed Frances' father, a close source divulged.

Before anyone dismisses the Enquirer report, just remember Edwards would probably now be the Attorney General or another cabinet member if it weren't for their reporting.

'We Just Fell on the Floor'

Excellent news: The John Edwards sex tape is in a safe place. Let's all hope it stays there, never to be seen.

Andrew Young, the ex-aide to embattled two-time former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, says he has an alleged sex tape depicting the former senator and his then-mistress Rielle Hunter – and that the tape is in a safe-deposit box.

"We were offered millions for that stupid tape," he tells PEOPLE. He says he and his wife Cheri found the tape in "a box of trash filled with crinkled paper and tapes" left behind by Hunter. He says they never considered selling it: "We couldn't live with ourselves."

Young, 43, served as an aide to Edwards for more than nine years. Just before the 2008 presidential primaries began, he agreed – at Edwards' behest, he says – to publicly claim paternity for the baby being carried by Hunter, 45. Young details the deception in his new tell-all book, The Politician, out today.

On Jan. 21, Edwards – who told PEOPLE on Jan. 27 that he still "deeply cares" about Elizabeth – admitted that he is the father of Hunter's 2-year-old daughter, Frances Quinn.

Young says that when he and Cheri first watched the sex tape – which was marked "special" – "we just fell on the floor. We were agape." Adds Cheri: "It was disappointing to see the person you had such hopes and dreams for be so careless."

Young sounds like a really loyal guy. He won't sell the tape but he'll gladly dish dirt on Edwards to anyone who'll listen.

Ewww: John Edwards Has a Sex Tape

Half of it probably involves himself preening for the camera and combing his hair.

Sources have told us that, in the throes of their affair, John Edwards and Rielle Hunter made a sex tape that contains "several sex acts." And that his aide, Andrew Young found it on an unmarked DVD.

The tape, say both our sources, is explicit and reveals that Edwards "is physically very striking, in a certain area. Everyone who sees it says 'whoa'. She's behind the camera at first."

When rumors of the affair first broke Young was so loyal to Edwards that he pretended that he was the father of Hunter's daughter Frances Quinn, now 2. But part of Young's disillusionment with the 2004 vice presidential candidate and 2008 candidate came one day as he went through a stack of DVDs at Rielle Hunter's house.

It was this betrayal that prompted Young to write his tell-all book, The Politician, out February 2. Background: The New York Daily News reported last June that Young mentioned the existence of the tape in his book proposal. It's expected that he'll reveal further details in that story, and in the 20/20 interview to promote it, to air on Friday. "It [the tape] was kind of the last straw for people who had sacrificed savings and jobs to lie for John," said one of our sources. "You should expect to see plenty more stories about him coming out of the woodwork when more people realize how... complicated... his motivations were."

No, this isn't the tape, but a nice blast from the past.

Shocking: John Edwards Admits Paternity

Actually this might have been shocking in 2008, when everyone on the planet already knew he had a love child. I guess he figures all the election hubbub from the other night gives him good cover to admit it now.

Former senator John Edwards on Thursday admitted paternity of a daughter with former mistress Rielle Hunter, despite his previous denials, in a statement given to the "Today" show.

Harrison Hickman, a trusted Edwards adviser, went on the show to discuss the statement from the former presidential candidate, who also served as the vice presidential nominee for the Democratic Party in 2004.

"I am Quinn's father," Edwards said in the statement. "I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves. It was wrong to deny she was my daughter."

He also apologized to his daughter, now two, saying he hoped she could forgive him one day, and to the public. "To all those I have have disappointed and hurt, these words will never be enough. But I am truly sorry," he said.

"I know it's not possible," Edwards previously said over the question of whether Quinn was his child.

Cherubim was unavailable for comment.

Elizabeth Edwards Targets Rielle Hunter in Blog Comments?

You really have to pity Elizabeth Edwards. Terminally ill and married to a two-timing bum, it seems she's been reduced to anonymously trashing Rielle Hunter in comments left under a pseudonym on blogs.

For months now, Elizabeth, who is said to be talking to a divorce lawyer, also has been sniping at Hunter - painting her as a blackmailing gold digger - in blog comments where she uses the pseudonym "Cherubim," according to a source who knows Elizabeth.

Though "Cherubim" has recently described herself as an African-American woman, the source insists, "It's Elizabeth. She's used 'cherubim' as a password. Look at the gravestone of their son Wade: It's an angel holding a boy."

"Cherubim" has also heaped scorn on estranged Edwards aide Andrew Young, who is working on a book in which he's due to reveal that Edwards and wealthy supporters paid him to claim that he fathered Quinn.

Former Aide Says Edwards Fathered Baby

More confirmation of the world's worst kept secret.

A man who once claimed he fathered the child of John Edwards' mistress now says in a book proposal that the former presidential candidate is the baby's father.

The New York Times reported Saturday that political donors made payments to the woman. The claims are all in a book proposal by former Edwards aide Andrew Young, who says he facilitated the affair between Edwards and Rielle Hunter.

The newspaper reports Young wrote that Edwards told Hunter they would marry after Edwards' wife died. His wife, Elizabeth, has cancer.

Edwards has denied he fathered the child. He has acknowledged that federal investigators are looking into his campaign funds.

It would simply be nice if Edwards would man up and admit what everyone already knows.

C'mon, Johnny, show a pair.

At the same time, Mr. Edwards is moving toward an abrupt reversal in his public posture; associates said in interviews that he is considering declaring that he is the father of Ms. Hunter’s 19-month-old daughter, something that he once flatly asserted in a television interview was not possible.

Elizabeth, 59, who is terminally ill with cancer, speaks in far more detail than before about her husband's infidelity in her new memoir, "Resilience," due to be published May 12 by Broadway Books. A copy was obtained by the Daily News.

Despite feeling deeply deceived, Elizabeth Edwards nonetheless publicly stood by her husband's side, lending his candidacy the aura of a warm, loving family life.

But she had actually wanted him to quit the race to protect the family. Edwards admitted the hanky-panky to her days after declaring his candidacy in 2006 - almost a year before the National Enquirer reported it.

She was afraid of the destructive questions Edwards' affair with videographer Rielle Hunter would raise.

Later events proved her right. "He should not have run," she says.

Edwards did not publicly admit the affair until last August - seven months after he quit the race, and the National Enquirer had reported he was the father of Hunter's infant daughter.

Edwards denied paternity, and his wife's book doesn't address that issue.

But it does highlight Elizabeth Edwards' anger and sorrow at being duped by a man whose four children she'd borne and whose political ambitions she'd passionately supported for so many years.

Hunter initially seduced Edwards using a worn come-on line, Elizabeth writes:

"You are so hot," Hunter told him outside a swank New York hotel. The campaign ultimately paid Hunter $114,000 to produce a batch of short films on his candidacy.

She lashes out at Hunter, now 45, whose name she never actually uses in the book, as a parasitic groupie who invaded the Edwardses' life.

Her own life may be tragic, she concludes, but Hunter's is "pathetic."

'We'll Be Together When Elizabeth Is Gone'

John Edwards assured his mistress that they'd be together after his cancer-stricken wife died, according to a new bombshell report.

Just before the former presidential contender confessed his adultery to ABC News on Aug. 8, he secretly flew Rielle Hunter and her 6-month-old child, Frances Quinn, from California to the US Virgin Islands, according to the National Enquirer, which first exposed their affair.

And after the interview, in which he denied loving Hunter or fathering the baby, he called her to say, "We'll be together when Elizabeth is gone," the tabloid reported.

For her part, Hunter bragged that Edwards is "a real good lover," the Enquirer said.

And after she joined him in New Orleans in 2006 for the official launch of his candidacy - which Elizabeth skipped - Hunter told a pal that "it was one of the happiest nights of her life," according to the Enquirer.

"She felt like she was his first lady," the tabloid reported, quoting a source.

'She's Got His Eyes and Jaw Line and Lips'

Not only that, the baby can channel dead people and spends an inordinate amount of time grooming.

Other than that, she looks nothing like John Edwards.

Disgraced ex-presidential candidate John Edwards secretly rekindled his steamy affair with his campaign videographer after confessing his infidelity to his cancer-stricken wife, according to an explosive new report.

In admitting their affair to ABC on Friday, Edwards said his "short" romantic relationship with Rielle Hunter began only after Hunter was hired in July 2006 to produce videos for his campaign, and ended that year.

He said he then confessed the relationship to his wife, Elizabeth.

But the National Enquirer is reporting today that Edwards restarted the affair after coming clean to Elizabeth, and that Hunter, now 44, got pregnant shortly afterward.

Meanwhile, Hunter's sister said yesterday that the mistress' 6-month-old love child unmistakably "looks like John Edwards. She's got his eyes and jaw line and lips.

"The most shocking thing was watching him on TV [last week] giving these half truths, these half-baked answers. I wish for everyone involved that he'd have come clean," Hunter's sis, Roxanne Druck, told "Entertainment Tonight."

Despite recent denials in an ABC News interview, Edwards knows he's the father of Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn, the Enquirer is reporting.

Sources have also told the weekly paper Edwards and Hunter orchestrated her public rebuffing of his offer of a paternity test.

"She's still protecting John because she loves him and thinks they may eventually have a future together," an Enquirer source said.

Photographs distributed by wire services and posted online by technology blogger Robert Scoble show that former North Carolina senator John Edwards took his mistress Rielle Hunter with him on the plane during his late 2006 presidential campaign announcement tour. As can be seen in this Dec. 28, 2006 photo (that's Hunter in the jeans and jester hat, as can be seen more clearly in this side-profile photo), Hunter stood off to the side of the national press corps filming Edwards as the former Democratic vice presidential nominee announced his second bid for the presidency in New Orleans.

Writes Scoble on his Flickr site under a photo of Hunter he uploaded Dec. 30, 2006, "I was hanging out with John Edwards and crew as he announced he was running for President of the United States. Scoble blogged Friday about the four-day presidential announcement trip, after Edwards admitted the romance with Hunter. Wrote Scoble, "I had no idea that when former Senator John Edwards invited me to come along on his plane back in December of 2006 that I would have had a front-row seat to a sex scandal."

"I never saw them behave inappropriately in front of me," he added. Scoble was traveling with the campaign as part of a blogger contingent invited to ensure the event received online attention.

Edwards said in a statement that his romance with Hunter ended in 2006. "With my family, I took responsibility for my actions in 2006 and today I take full responsibility publicly. But that misconduct took place for a short period in 2006. It ended then," he said.

Meanwhile, Hunter's previous incarnation as Lisa Druck is gaining more attention.

Hunter has had other famous boyfriends, including author Jay McInerney, who has said he based the promiscuous character in his 1988 novel, "Story of My Life," on Hunter. Boosted by the scandal, the novel is out of stock after shooting up to No. 470 on Amazon.com's best-seller list - prompting its publisher to print another 2,500 copies.

Also getting renewed attention is a November 1992 Sports Illustrated article about a series of killings of thoroughbred horses. The brutal murders were committed for insurance purposes by a hit man who learned his trade from Hunter's late father, James Druck.

Druck, a Florida lawyer, in 1982 taught Tommy "The Sandman" Burns how to rig wires to electrocute Druck's prize show jumper, Henry the Hawk, for a $150,000 insurance payout, the magazine reported.

John Edwards' nasty mistress cattily dissed his cancer-stricken wife to a friend - and later coldly blamed the ailing spouse for getting her fired from a videography job on her lover's presidential campaign, a new report claims.

"She does not give off good energy," Rielle Hunter sneered of Elizabeth Edwards during a late 2006 lunch with Newsweek reporter Jonathan Darman, who was covering the campaign at the time.

"She didn't make eye contact with me."

Several months later, when Hunter was booted from her $100,000-plus job filming "Webisodes" on Edwards' campaign, she blasted Elizabeth Edwards, sniping, "Someday, the truth about her is going to come out," Darman wrote.

Hunter, 42, soon told the scribe she also was working on a "genius" TV-show idea involving "women who help men get out of failing marriages by having affairs with them."

When Hunter met with Darman again last summer, he asked her if she was dating anyone, and she allegedly replied, "I'm in love."

Coyly refusing to identify her beau, Hunter added, "I can't tell you [who], but maybe someday we'll all be friends," Darman recounted. Edwards claims their relationship ended in 2006.

It's not clear what the political fallout from the affair will be. But Edwards announced "through one of his staffers he would not be attending the [Democratic] convention in Denver," Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin said on "Fox News Sunday."

Hunter had a thing for blabbing to writers. At a party about five years ago, she told a writer in California, "I am going to be famous, rich and famous. I'm going to meet a rich, powerful man."

"How are you going to do that?" asked Sarah Miller, who wrote about the conversation in the Los Angeles Times.

Hunter replied, "I'm going to manifest it."

An adherent of New Age spirituality and astrology, Hunter claimed that she has had many past lives, Darman said.

Hunter told Darman that when she met John Edwards, 55, in the bar of New York's Regency Hotel in 2006, he gave off a special "energy."

Later, Hunter claimed that the former North Carolina senator could become a "transformational leader" - comparable to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., Darman said.

"He had the power to change the world," Hunter told the writer.

Wow, is she ever naive.

'He Was Very Real and Authentic'

In addition to being the mother of John Edwards' love child, this bimbo Rielle Hunter (real name Lisa Druck) is apparently quite stupid.

John Edwards' mistress, Rielle Hunter, called the former Democratic presidential hopeful an "inspiration" in a 2007 interview.

"He was very real and authentic," Hunter, a filmmaker, told Extra. "He was an inspiration to me.

"One of the great things about John Edwards is that he's so open and willing to try new things and do things in new ways," she added.

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby's birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.

Hello, MSM: Can You Mention John Edwards and His Love Child Now?

I doubt it. They'll probably claim the images were doctored or were an invasion of privacy. Anything to protect their class-warfare golden boy.

Sure looks like key evidence to me, with Edwards holding his baby.

The NATIONAL ENQUIRER is releasing the photograph that the world has been waiting for – the first-ever picture of John Edwards and his love child!

The stunning “spy photo” shows the former presidential contender holding his infant daughter Frances Quinn Hunter at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles – where the ENQUIRER caught him visiting the baby’s mother, his mistress Rielle Hunter.

Edwards is holding his love child while standing in front of a distinctive striped curtain.

The same window covering hangs in each one of the hotel’s guest rooms – and is clearly visible in photos of guest rooms on the hotel’s Web site.

“These photos are damning proof,” said a source close to the situation.

“He’s been caught lying about his affair with Rielle and their love child for many months – and now the proof against him is piling up.

“His elaborate coverup is unraveling at the seams.”

The inexorable march toward full media exposure continues, as the New York Post dares to note some background on the mother of John Edwards' love child.

RIELLE Hunter - the woman reported by the National Enquirer to be John Edwards' mistress and mother of his love child - is no stranger to fans of Jay McInerney. The novelist dated the blonde for a few months in the late 1980s and based his book "Story of My Life" on her.

Hunter was known as Lisa Druck when McInerney met her at Nell's in 1987. "She's a nice girl," the author told Page Six. "She used to be a real party girl.

"When she wasn't out at nightclubs, she was taking acting classes. We dated for only a few months, but in that period, I spent a lot of time with her and her friends, whose behavior intrigued and appalled me to such an extent that I ended up basing a novel on the experience," McInerney recalled.

"It was narrated in the first person from the point of view of an ostensibly jaded, sexually voracious 20-year-old who was inspired by Lisa. I certainly thought of Alison Poole as a sympathetic and ultimately endearing character."

McInerney said he lost track of Hunter after she moved to California. He was unaware she had moved back to Manhattan and was making videos for the Edwards presidential campaign last year, before the supermarket tabloid reported she was the former North Carolina senator's mistress.

Edwards and Hunter flatly denied the Enquirer's report. "It is completely untrue, ridiculous," Edwards said. "I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years." His wife, Elizabeth, is battling cancer.

One of Edwards' staffers, Andrew Young, a married father of three, claimed he was the child's dad. But no father at all is listed on the birth certificate for Frances Quinn Hunter, who was born Feb. 27.

Anyway, as the media continues covering up the explosive Edwards scandal, the National Enquirer reveals more dirt on this loathsome political hack.

A NATIONAL ENQUIRER investigation has uncovered John Edwards’ mistress, Rielle Hunter – the mother of his “love child” – has been secretly receiv­ing $15,000 a month as part of an elaborate cover-up orchestrated by the former presidential contender.

The money is being funneled to Hunter by a wealthy colleague who was closely tied to the Edwards’ campaign. This same man is also shoveling cash to Edwards’ pal and former aide Andrew Young – who tried to take the heat off the ex-Senator by claiming he is the father of Rielle’s baby.

And The ENQUIRER is also exclusively revealing that Rielle’s baby is a girl named Frances Quinn Hunter and was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

“A super-rich pal – who was closely involved with the campaign finances – is helping John. It’s likely this man doesn’t know all the dirty details of John’s extramarital affair, but is acting out of loyalty and is not asking a lot of questions – only writing the checks,” revealed a source very close to the situation.

A year-long ENQUIRER investigation exploded spectacularly into the open on the night of July 21 when our reporters caught Edwards making a secret late-night visit to Rielle, 44, and their infant child at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton hotel.

Edwards, 55, was confronted by ENQUIRER reporters, but refused to answer questions and instead hid in a public men’s restroom until security escorted him off hotel grounds.

Does it get any lower than a guy sleeping around on his sick wife?

No, it doesn't.

But he's a Democrat, so apparently such behavior is just fine with our esteemed media.
