Body Found at Yale

The Daily News blundered badly the other day, but now a body believed to be Yale graduate student Annie Le has been found.

So sad.

On what should have been Annie Le's wedding night, cops on Sunday believed they found the Yale grad student's body stuffed into a basement wall of her lab building.

State police made the heartbreaking discovery inside 10 Amistad St., the five-story building where Le was last seen on Tuesday morning.

The grisly find came at almost the exact moment Le expected to walk down the aisle with fiancé Jonathan Widawsky in a plush ceremony on Long Island.

"Our hearts go out to the family of Annie Le," said Yale President Richard Levin.

New Haven Police Assistant Chief Peter Reichard said cops found "a large amount" of physical evidence and that the case is being treated as a homicide.

The body was found in an area that houses utility cables that run between floors, police said.

More than 100 investigators from the FBI and three police departments spent the past five days poring over blueprints and surveillance footage, and used bloodhounds to search every inch of the building.

Just a horrible tragedy. A young college student set to be married this weekend and then this.

Investigators found the body of missing Yale graduate student Annie Le in the building where she was last seen, the Daily News has learned.

The report came a short time after the police found bloody clothes stuffed in the ceiling of the building at 10 Amistad St. in New Haven.

Authorities emptied the building Saturday afternoon and declared it a murder scene.

The building houses the university's molecular biology labs at the Medical School complex about a mile from the main campus. Cops had found Le's purse, cell phone, credit cards and cash earlier this week.

Investigators had questioned a man outside the lab Saturday morning — then put him in an unmarked car with an FBI agent and drove away.

Officials would not say whether the man was a suspect, a witness, or neither.

Security records show the 24-year-old doctoral student in pharmacology swiped her identification card to enter the building around 10 a.m. Tuesday, and have no indication that she ever left.

"[The case] is still wide open," a law enforcement source told the Daily News. "We are looking into everything."

The source said investigators are looking at:

* A burglary gone bad — the lab where Le was last seen is full of valuable equipment.

* Kidnapping — Le's mother owns nail salons in California and has access to cash.

* A professor who suddenly canceled a class Le was to attend around the time she went missing.

Investigators are still searching through hundreds of hours of surveillance footage and following up on tips. Yale announced Friday a $10,000 reward for information that leads them to Le.

"They are going frame by frame, looking at every image," said Yale spokesman Tom Conroy. "We are also reviewing footage of nearby businesses.

The professor was questioned by police Friday.

Is That a Real Diploma From Yale?

It seems South Korea is a little upset at Yale University because the school vouched for a degree that they had supposedly issued to one of its citizens. This person was hired to be a professor at a South Korean university based on the confirmation from Yale.

Dongguk University made Shin Jeong-ah its art history professor in 2005 after Yale confirmed she had graduated there.

Two years later claims emerged that Ms Shin, the lover of a presidential aide, had never studied there. Yale then said it had confirmed her degree by mistake.

But that statement isn't entirely accurate. At first Yale claimed it was a fake.

When suspicions about her credentials arose two years later Dongguk again contacted Yale. This time the US institution said Ms Shin had not graduated there and claimed the 2005 fax was forged.

Yale officials later admitted the fax had been sent by mistake and apologised.

They are suing for $50 million. And yes, to further show the influence of American pop culture in the world, they are referring to this as "Shingate."

Yale Students Arrested for Burning U.S. Flag

Three Yale students have been arrested for burning a U.S. flag (hat tip Joey Jojo Jr.).

Three Yale University students have been arrested on charges of setting fire to an American flag hanging from the porch of a Chapel Street home.

The three were arrested early Tuesday after police on patrol spotted the burning flag and tore it from the pole where it was mounted to the house, police said.

Said Hyder Akbar, 23, Nikolaos Angelopoulos, 19, and Farhad Anklesaria, also 19, were arrested on charges ranging from reckless endangerment to arson.

Angelopoulos and Anklesaria, who are two freshmen are both foreign citizens. Anklesaria is British and Angelopoulos is Greek.

Akbar, a senior, was born in Pakistan, according to police, but is a U.S. citizen. Both Anklesaria and Angelopoulos had to turn over their passports.

Akbar worked as an informal translator for U.S. forces during the invasion of Afghanistan and later published a memoir, "Come Back to Afghanistan," based on his experiences there, the Yale Daily News reported Wednesday.

At their arraignment in Superior Court a few hours after their arrests Tuesday, bond was kept at $25,000 for Angelopoulos and Akbar, but was reduced to $15,000 for Anklesaria. They remained jailed Tuesday night.

First of all, they should all be tossed out of Yale, but instead, they'll probably become campus celebrities. Second, the two foreign students should immediately be deported. Rather than being thankful for receiving an Ivy League education in this country, they spit in our faces. Akbar should be stripped of his citizenship and sent back to Pakistan, the ungrateful punk.
