It sure doesn't sound like Auntie Zeituni will be sending her nephew Barack any Christmas cards this year. Wait, does she even celebrate Christmas?

An illegal immigrant from Kenya busted for drunken driving after nearly striking a cop car in Framingham is the uncle of President Obama, the Herald has learned.

Obama Onyango told cops he wanted to “call the White House” after he was nabbed for OUI Aug. 24 after nearly plowing his SUV into a police cruiser. He was arraigned Thursday and was ordered held without bail because he was wanted on a federal immigration warrant, officials said.

Mike Rogers, a spokesman for Cleveland immigration attorney Margaret Wong, who is representing Onyango, confirmed that the 67-year-old is the president’s uncle. Wong is the same lawyer who represented the president’s aunt, Zeituni Onyango, in her fight to win asylum last year.

Reached at her apartment in a South Boston public housing complex today, Zeituni Onyango said of her brother’s arrest: “Why don’t you go to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washintgon, D.C. and ask your president? Not me.” She then hung up on a reporter.

The White House also did not respond to a request for comment.

Zeituni and Obama Onyango are brother and sister, Rogers told the Herald today.

The two are the children of the president’s grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, and his third wife, Sarah, according to the London Times.

The Times also reported that Obama Onyango is the man referred to as “Uncle Omar” in the president’s 1995 book, “Dreams from My Father.” In the book, President Obama writes about his Uncle Omar as “the uncle who had left for America 25 years ago and had never come back.”

Kenya’s government is unhappy with the impression created by a U.S. court ruling that granted asylum to President Barack Obama’s aunt for saying she could be targeted by members of Kenya’s government if deported, an official said Friday.

Government Spokesman Alfred Mutua described the case of Zeituni Onyango as an embarrassment and said the allegations made against Kenya were untrue and unrealistic.

"It has become a habit for Kenyans seeking asylum in other countries to lie. Her case is an embarrassment to this country and President Obama," Mutua said. "We are not looking for her. The government does not have any problem with Zeituni Onyango."

Earlier this week, U.S. Immigration Judge Leonard Shapiro in Boston said he gave Onyango asylum in the U.S. because she would be a target in Kenya not only for those who oppose the United States and Obama but for members of the Kenyan government.

Onyango is the half sister of Obama’s late father and has been living in public housing in Boston.

Shapiro granted Onyango asylum in May after her case was heard during a closed trial. His written decision was released this week through the Freedom of Information Act.

So if her claims were bogus and she doesn't face any threast, can we ship her back now?

Authorities will decide by May at the latest whether to deport an aunt of President Barack Obama to her Kenyan homeland, the Justice Department said after a hearing in her case on Thursday.

Zeituni Onyango, 57, a half-sister to Obama's father whom Obama called "Auntie Zeituni" in his memoir "Dreams from My Father," moved to the United States in 2000 and applied for asylum in 2002, citing violence in Kenya.

'She Hasn't Been in Touch With the President'

Looks like Barack Obama's illegal alien Auntie Zeituni is trying to fight deportation back to Kenya. Laughably, the White House claims she hasn't had any contact with the most powerful man on the planet in an attempt to stay here.

Sure.

When President Obama's Kenyan aunt appears before a U.S. immigration judge in Boston today, she says she will literally be making the case for her life.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, is fighting a 2004 deportation order by seeking asylum in this country – a status granted to those who cannot return home out of fear of being persecuted.

But just what persecution Onyango claims to face and whether a judge will find her fears well-founded is uncertain. Onyango first applied for asylum in 2002 "due to violence in Kenya" but was denied and ordered to leave the country.

Instead of returning home, the woman who helped raise the president's half brothers and sister in Kenya and whom Obama affectionately referred to as "Auntie Zeituni" in his memoir, has remained illegally in Boston, living in subsidized public housing.

Now the case, which first surfaced in October 2008, just before the presidential election, is once again drawing international attention and sparking speculation about whether Obama will intervene on her behalf.

"President Obama must either deport his aunt or destroy his own credibility by showing her favoritism," said William Gheen of the conservative Americans for Legal Immigration PAC.

Umm, from this angle, his credibility is already destroyed. But hey, I'm just some wacko blogger, so my opinion doesn't matter.

The White House has insisted that it has no involvement with Onyango's case, leaving it to follow an ordinary course before a federal judge who will apply the rule of law. For her part, Onyango told The Associated Press she has not been in contact with anyone from the White House or been contacted by them.

Onyango did not respond to ABC News' requests for interviews.

"She hasn't been in touch with the president. He can't help her," Mike Rogers, spokesman for Onyango's attorney Margaret Wong, told ABC News.

President Barack Obama's aunt buried her face in her hands and sobbed as she described her anguish over no longer having contact with him and his family after the revelation she had been living illegally for years in the United States in public housing.

Zeituni Onyango told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview that she is troubled that her immigration woes have made her a political liability to her nephew.

Onyango, the half sister of Obama's late father, said she has exiled herself from the family after attending Obama's inauguration because she didn't want to become fodder for his foes. Obama and his family have not reached out to her either, she said.

"Before, we were family. But right now, there is a lot of politics, and me, I am not interested in any politics at all," said Onyango, whose appeal for asylum from her native Kenya is before an immigration judge in Boston.

The Obamas are her only family in the United States, she said.

"It is very sad when such a thing happens. There are people, outsiders, you know, they come in between, they divide a family," she said last week. "It's not easy."

Onyango, 57, is protective of Obama and said she never asked him to intervene in her case and didn't tell him about her immigration difficulties.

"I carry my own cross," she said. "He has nothing to do with my problem."

The White House said Obama has had no involvement in his aunt's case and believes it should run its ordinary course.

Onyango helped care for the president's half brothers and sister while living with Barack Obama Sr. in Kenya. She moved to the United States in 2000 and applied for asylum in 2002, but her request was rejected and she was ordered deported in 2004.

However, she did not leave the country and continued to live in public housing in Boston. She had been a health care volunteer but not since her status became public. She refused to discuss how she affords to live now or who is paying for her attorney.

Maybe ACORN is funneling her some cash.

A real shocker, no? I mean, let's get serious. Do you think we'll ever see the day when a blood relative of the President of the United States gets deported? Sure, it'd make for great theater and fantastic news coverage as she sits in traffic on her way to Logan Airport and tearfully departs back to parts unknown, but face it, it's never going to happen, so why even go through this charade?

President Barack Obama’s aunt, who has been living illegally in the U.S. for years, can stay in the United States until next year while her effort to fight deportation makes its way through the court system, according to a spokesman for her attorney.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, the half-sister of Obama’s late father, was ordered to leave the country in 2004, but never left. Instead, the Kenyan native made a quiet life for herself in two different South Boston housing projects while her nephew rose to national prominence.

International news stories late last year about her immigration status put her in the national spotlight and she has since renewed her efforts to fight deportation.

A hearing on an appeal of her deportation was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today at the John F. Kennedy Federal Building in Boston, which houses the Boston Immigration Court. Onyango apparently managed to avoid reporters and photographers who had camped out outside the building. She left just before 9 a.m.

Immigration Judge Leonard Shapiro scheduled a second hearing on her case for Feb. 4, 2010, said Mike Rogers, a spokesman for Onyango’s immigration attorney, Margaret Wong.

The proceedings are closed to the public.

The woman is still living on the dole in public housing. The least the wealthy Obama and his wife could do is throw her a few bucks and put her up in some decent housing. Apparently, they don't care, compassionate liberals that they are. After all, Obama's half brother, George Hussein Obama, is still living in his hut in Kenya getting by on $12 a month while Barack lives large in luxury.

Obama Played a Dirty Trick On Himself

After Barack Obama's aunt was found living here illegally, Team Obama and the left reflexively denounced this discovery as some sort of dirty trick to undermine the promise of hope and change.

Well, as it turns out, it was Obama's own autobiography that provided the trail of crumbs for the Times of London. Curious how not a single U.S. media outlet ever bothered to do some investigating themselves.

The trail that led to “Aunt Zeituni”, the relative of Barack Obama who was traced by The Times last week, started with Mr Obama’s memoir, one of the most widely read political autobiographies of all time.

The Democrat campaign has implied that the story might have come from Republican sources – “the American people are ... pretty suspicious of things that are dumped in the marketplace 72 hours before a campaign,” said Mr Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod yesterday.

In fact, the story came from a book that has been read by millions, including just about everyone connected to the Obama campaign.

Dreams From My Father was first published in 1995, and the story of how Mr Obama returned to Kenya in 1988 to trace his roots has become the cornerstone of his political biography. Yet the US media appears to have overlooked the passage indicating that at least one relative of Mr Obama’s had moved to America and might still be there.

Those intriguing passages in Mr Obama’s book were first investigated by The Times during a visit to Kenya in September to interview members of the family, including “Granny Sarah”. Inquiries as to the current whereabouts of Omar elicited only vague responses – and even the suggestion, from a full brother of the missing man, that no such person existed.

This triggered a six-week search, one that would lead eventually to Boston and to Aunt Zeituni. Public record searches found traces of O. Onyango Obama, Uncle Omar’s real name, in Boston. A friend and a former landlady said that he now uses the name Obama Onyango.

In the course of searching for Uncle Omar The Times found a Zeituni Onyango, who also played a prominent part in Mr Obama’s book.

In the end, the discovery of Obama's aunt living in a Boston slum won't alter a single vote, but it's indicative of a lazy media in this country that won't apply the same standards to one of their favorites as they will to a Joe the Plumber or Sarah Palin.

Tale of Two Leaks

What we've got here, folks, is a clear case of media bias, double standards and preferential treatment.

Several weeks back a man just playing ball with his son is approached by Barack Obama during a photo op and within days seemingly every record of his in snooped on by Democrat operatives in Ohio. Outside of the blogosphere and a few papers in Ohio, the national media has ignored the story.

That's right: A United States citizen who was minding his own business was virtually spied on and every aspect of his life scrutinized because he dared to embarrass Barack Obama.

Fast forward a couple weeks and it's discovered that same Barack Obama has an aunt living in this country illegally and has made illegal donations to his campaign. So what does the national media rush to do?

Why, rush to investigate why this story has now appeared, of course!

The Department of Homeland Security is investigating whether its privacy policy was violated after a news organization reported that an aunt of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama is an illegal immigrant from Kenya, officials said yesterday.

The woman, Zeituni Onyango, 56, lives in a public housing complex in Boston and is the half sister of Obama's late father, who spent most of his life in Kenya before dying in a car accident in 1982.

The Associated Press reported late Friday that Onyango was denied asylum by an immigration judge and that she was instructed to leave the United States in 2004. The AP cited two unnamed sources, identifying one as a federal law enforcement official.

OK, can we seriously expect that there'll be a federal investigation into who leaked information on Joe the Plumber? Let's say it was leaked that John McCain had a relative living here illegally. Would there be a rush to investigate who divulged that information or would the top story be that he had a relative here illegally?

I think you know the answer.

Frankly, I could care less about this woman and there's no doubt in my mind she won't be going anywhere.

But this double standard of selective reporting is a major reason why distrust of the media is an an all time high. People cannot help but be cynical when they see preferential treatment. And never had that been more illustrative than during this campaign.

Naturally, the left now questions the timing. Unfortunately, they don't question the hypocrisy. They should be on notice: Cross your bosses from the Democratic party and your records are fair game.

Obama Plays Dumb, Pretends He Didn't Know Aunt Was Here Illegally

Why, he had no idea Auntie Zeituni was here illegally, even though she was donating money to him.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says he didn't know that one of his relatives was living in the United States illegally and believes the appropriate laws should be followed.

The Associated Press found that Obama's aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama's late father.

A statement given to the AP by Obama's campaign Saturday says, "Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed."

So is he throwing her under the bus and claiming she should be deported? I have a hard time believing that. It's a shame John McCain has so little credibility on the issue of illegal aliens, otherwise this would be a goldmine of opportunity. Still, Obama's excuse he had no idea of this woman's status just strains all credulity. The woman was ordered to leave the country four years ago and managed to still obtain government run housing, and her Senator nephew had nothing to do with that?

Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.

The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. No one answered the telephone number listed in her name late Friday. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

Onyango is not a relative whom Obama has discussed in campaign appearances and, unlike Obama's father and grandmother, is not someone who has been part of the public discussion about his personal life.

Are There Any Obama Relatives Not Living in Squalor?

A couple months ago we found out about George Hussein Obama getting by on $12 a year, living in a hut in Kenya. Now we discover The Messiah, a man who's shaken down supporters and credit-card scam artists to the tune of $600 million (and then some) has an aunt living in misery in Boston.

Barack Obama has lived one version of the American Dream that has taken him to the steps of the White House. But a few miles from where the Democratic presidential candidate studied at Harvard, his Kenyan aunt and uncle, immigrants living in modest circumstances in Boston, have a contrasting American story. Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so affectionately described in Mr Obama’s best-selling memoir Dreams from My Father, lives in a disabled-access flat on a rundown public housing estate in South Boston.

A second relative believed to be the long-lost “Uncle Omar” described in the book was beaten by armed robbers with a “sawed-off rifle” while working in a corner shop in the Dorchester area of the city. He was later evicted from his one-bedroom flat for failing to pay $2,324.20 (£1,488) arrears, according to the Boston Housing Court.

The US press has repeatedly rehearsed Mr Obama’s extraordinary odyssey, but the other side of the family’s American experience has only been revealed in parts. Just across town from where Mr Obama made history as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, some of his closest blood relatives have confronted the harshness of immigrant life in America.

In his book Mr Obama writes that “Uncle Omar” had gone missing after moving to Boston in the 1960s – a quarter-century before Mr Obama first visited his family in Kenya. Aunt Zeituni is now also living in Boston, and recently made a $260 campaign contribution to her nephew's presidential bid from a work address in the city.

Speaking outside her home in Flaherty Way, South Boston, on Tuesday, Ms Onyango, 56, confirmed she was the “Auntie Zeituni” in Mr Obama’s memoir. She declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the November 4 election. “I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,” she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone.”

What, she have a gag order on her? Funny how all the investigative reporters who brought us every minute detail of the lives of Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber never manage to find Obama's relatives. It's takes a British paper to do this.

And why is it these wealthy liberals always seem to have relatives living in poverty?

A photograph of Ms Onyango was later shown to George Hussein Onyango, Barack Obama’s half-brother in Nairobi, who confirmed that it was their aunt. George Onyango, 26, the youngest child of Barack Obama Sr, said that he had spent weekends with his Aunt Zeituni when he was growing up, and instantly recognised her.

George Onyango said that his aunt had left for the US about eight years ago but sent him e-mails. “She left to find work and I suppose she thought her life would be better there,” he said. “She was kind and caring.”

In his memoir Mr Obama describes the joy of meeting his father’s family during his first visit to Kenya in 1988. Aunt Zeituni, then a computer programmer at Kenya Breweries in Nairobi, is portrayed as a feisty woman who proclaims herself “the champion dancer”. Uncle Omar, by contrast, remains a mysterious figure who left for America and never came back. At one point in the book a half-sister tells Mr Obama that people “like our Uncle Omar, in Boston” move to the West.
