Weakling Obama to Eastern Europe: You're On Your Own

Forget protecting and aiding our allies. Obama is ready to throw Poland and the Czech Republic under the bus with the delusional notion Russia will be able to keep Iran from getting nukes, when Russia is the one helping them get there.

The Obama administration has begun to indicate that it's willing to reconsider the Bush administration's push to deploy a ballistic missile defense system in the Czech Republic and Poland — if Russia helps curb Iran's push to develop nuclear weapons.

Echoing Vice President Joe Biden, who said the new administration wants to push a "reset button" on U.S.- Russia relations, Undersecretary of State William Burns told the Interfax news agency in Moscow last week that, " The United States is quite open to the possibility of new forms of cooperation" with Moscow on missile defense, Iran and "the whole range of security issues with Russia ." His remarks are posted on the Interfax Web site.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to meet her Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in Geneva, Switzerland next month, paving the way for the first meeting between President Obama and Russian Pres. Dmitry Medvedev at the Group of Eight economic summit in London in early April.

The meetings come as concerns continue to mount about Iran's ballistic missile and nuclear enrichment programs, as Israeli hard-liners who consider Iran an existential threat gain ground and as Moscow grows more vocal about what it charges are U.S. encroachments on its spheres of influence in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. They also come, however, as falling oil prices and bad investments hammer the once high-flying Russian economy.

Normally, most sane people would call that having leverage. But no, we wouldnt want to embarrass anyone.

For years we've heard the mantra that the world hates us while we were beloved in Eastern Europe. Now indeed that pocket of the world will hate us.

For selling them out to the Communists again.

HOW WE CAN DEFEAT AL QUEDA!

So, who thinks that we should consider TALKING to Al Queda in an effort to stop them slaughtering us? We've tried daisy cutters, so should we try dialogue?

The man tipped to be the next head of the London Metropolitan police, PSNI Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde does, believes it is vital that we engage with the crazed lunatics that make up Islam's cutting edge.

Taking time out from his hectic schedule as head of the world's most politically-correct and absolutely useless police service, Northern Ireland's PSNI, Sir Hugh talks to the left wing Guardian newspaper and argues that it's not IF but rather WHEN we should enter dialogue with the militant Islamics. He bases this view on his experience in Northern Ireland where he now enjoys convicted IRA bombers and bankrobbers sitting on his Policing Board. I guess he looks forward to the day when the masterminds behind the 7/7 massacre can get a job running London transport. That would be his idea of a victory.

Here's the deal - once appeasement enters the soul, it never goes away. Sir Hugh is an appeaser par excellence. He sees nothing wrong with the appeasement of the IRA in Northern Ireland and therefore it seems natural, even desirable to him, that we appease Al Queda. Orde manifests the politically correct mindset so prevalent in the highest echelons of British policing - he understand that there is no will to DEFEAT terrorists so it is best to cut your losses and talk to them instead. Looking forward to seeing those Al Queda psychopaths flying in -first class - to London to have a bit of a chat with Sir Hugh and his appeasing pals.

Just hope the planes don't divert from the run in to Heathrow....

Czech Social Democrat leader meets Syrian Baath officials
Czech opposition Social Democrat (ČSSD) leader Jiří Paroubek Wednesday met senior officials of the Syrian ruling Arab Socialist Baath Party, but the talks had no "specific political content," he said.

Paroubek was reacting to the server iDnes.cz that wrote that the Social Democrats had established contact with a brutal dictatorial party openly sponsoring terrorism and that they discussed cooperation.

Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek said Paroubek's trip was regrettable. "The so-called foreign policy of the opposition runs counter to the Czech Republic's interests," Topolánek told journalists in the White House.

Topolánek is now on a visit to the USA.

Topolánek said the trip had to be discussed. "While in the opposition, we never pursued any foreign policy different from that pursued by the government," he added.

Topolánek said he would prefer Paroubek and Social Democrat deputy chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Lubomir Zaoralek to travel to Syria as tourists.

Topolánek said he had been donated from U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez, who was of Cuban origin, a white bracelet, a symbol for which people were sent to jail in Cuba at present.

"Upon my return, I will wear it on account of Paroubek and Zaoralek," Topolánek added.

Baath is a pan-Arab party with the headquarters in Damascus. It seeks Arab unity from the Persian Gulf to the Atlantic Ocean.

It has been ruling in Syria since the 1963 coup. No parties but Baath and its allies are allowed in Syria.

Referring to the Syrian media, the server iDnes says that Paroubek stressed at a seminar on European policy that Syria had to be part of any peace process and voiced support to the Syrian right to the return of the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since the 1967 Six-Day War.

Paroubek said the ČSSD had consulted Czech Foreign Ministry before his visit to Syria and the delegation was accompanied by the Czech ambassador to Syria.

"As a result, all talks of the ČSSD delegation are being conducted in keeping with the Czech foreign policy official line towards Syria," Paroubek said.

Czech Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zuzana Opletalova confirmed to ČTK that the office knew about the Social Democrats' visit to Syria.

"According to our information, these are the talks on the party level. As a result, we cannot or will not comment on them," she said.

Paroubek is accompanied by his wife Petra and Zaoralek, ČSSD shadow foreign minister.

The Syrian side invited the Social Democrats and has covered the costs of their accommodation.

The ČSSD delegation is scheduled to meet representatives of Syrian industry and trade but also top representatives of the state administration and parliament, for instance, the Syrian parliament chairman and the foreign minister.

The visit was organised by the Czech-Central Asian mixed chamber of commerce within its efforts at improving the Czech Republic's trade relations with central Asian countries, the ČSSD said.

Syria's about as geograhically central to Asia as China is to the Mid-West.

Meanwhile, SANA, the Syrian news agency, reports that

Assistant Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Abdullah al-Ahmar discussed on Tuesday with Chairman of the Czech Social Democratic Party Jiri Paroubek means of bolstering the cooperation between the two parties.

So much for no 'specific political content'.

Al-Ahmar briefed Paroubek on the economic reforms in Syria, pointing out to Syria's encouraging investment atmosphere. He also briefed him on the latest regional development and the party's stances regarding them.

For his part, Paroubek affirmed his country's interest in pushing the peace process in the Middle East forward and developing relations with Syria in all fields.

Later, in a seminar on the European policies towards Arab causes, Paroubek affirmed that Syria is a key player in the region, adding it is wrong to overstep it. He stressed that Syria must be a part of any peace process, expressing his support of Syria's right to restore its occupied land in the Syrian Golan.

Paroubek added that his party follows a balanced policy towards all parties in the Middle East, and that it is necessary to find a peaceful resolution to the region's problems.

Regarding Syrian-Czech relations, Paroubek underlined the need to boost trade, tourism and cultural relations, pointing out to Syria's historical sites that are considered an important tourist attraction.

In another entry, SANA provided a more revealing angle

President Bashar al-Assad discussed with Chairman of the Czech Social Democratic Party (SDP) Jiří Paroubek means of further enhancing and developing the existing cooperation and friendship between al-Baath Arab Socialist Party and the SDP for the best benefit of the two countries.

President Assad and Paroubek also reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East, stressing necessity of establishing a just and comprehensive peace in it.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Abdullah al-Ahmar, the delegation accompanying Paroubek and the Czech ambassador in Syria Tomas Ulicny.

Mr. Paroubke on Wednesday highlighted Syria's active role in the region in solving the Middle East problems, calling for enhancing Syrian-Czech relations in economic, culture and tourist fields.

Boeve's return cost EUR 600,000
Not too many people were happy to hear world traveller Stefaan Boeve insist that he "will certainly be going back" to Iran.

Just after landing at Melsbroek the freed hostage declared that he wants to return to the site of the kidnapping to retrieve his jeep. The Foreign Affairs Ministry advises tourists not to visit this particular area because it is dangerous.

It is difficult to calculate exactly how much the Boeve affair has cost the taxpayer, but the total is in the area of EUR 600,000. To start Minister De Gucht will donate EUR 500,000 to a programme to combat drugs in the region where Boeve was kidnapped, "in gratitude for the good cooperation." This gift would not have been made otherwise.

Neville Chamberlain was unavailable for comment.

On the first day of her Middle East tour, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Tuesday signed a joint statement with Egypt, Jordan and six Persian Gulf states, endorsing the 2002 Arab peace initiative as one of the foundations for Middle East peace.

Cool. How many dead Jews will be required for the other foundations?

Visiting the region with Rice is Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

The initiative offers Israel normalized relations with all Arab countries in return for full withdrawal from the territory Israel captured in 1967.

I know some Jewish folks who were going to switch parties and vote Republican in 2008. For some reason, they've just been persuaded that the party of Abe Lincoln and Ronald Reagan exists no more.

Brown message to US: it's time to build, not destroy
The first clear signs that Neville Chamberlain Gordon Brown will reorder Britain's foreign policy emerged last night when one of his closest cabinet allies urged the US to change its priorities and said a country's strength should no longer be measured by its destructive military power.

Lord Halifax Douglas Alexander, the trade and development secretary, made his remarks in a speech in America, the first by a cabinet minister abroad since Mr Brown took power a fortnight ago.

The speech represents a call for the US to rethink its foreign policy, and recognise the virtues of so-called "soft power" and acting through international institutions including the United Nations.

Which meaningless UN resolution would you like to start with, asshat?

In what will be seen as an assertion of the importance of multilateralism in Mr Brown's foreign policy, Mr Alexander said: "In the 20th century a country's might was too often measured in what they could destroy. In the 21st century strength should be measured by what we can build together. And so we must form new alliances, based on common values, ones not just to protect us from the world, but ones which reach out to the world." He described this as "a new alliance of opportunity".

Y'all didn't learn a damn thing from 1938?

He added: "We need to demonstrate by our deeds, words and our actions that we are internationalist, not isolationist, multilateralist, not unilateralist, active and not passive, and driven by core values, consistently applied, not special interests."

With some neocons in the Bush administration nervous at the direction of Mr Brown's foreign policy, following the appointment of the former UN deputy secretary Lord Malloch-Brown as foreign minister, Mr Alexander went out of his way to underline the special relationship, but challenged the US and its partners "to recognise the importance of a rules based international system".

That might be when, finally, Ehud Olmert learns that terrorism cannot be appeased.

Israel Offers Golan Heights To Syria.

In a secret communique, Ehud Olmert demanded that in exchange for the return of the strategic highlands, Syria dissolve its alliances with Iran, Hezbollah and Palestinian militant factions who maintain headquarters in Damascus.

Say what?!? Are you stoned . . . or just stoopid???

Syria, under the regime of Bashar al Assad, is a key supporter of the Lebanese Shia Hizbollah militia, who battled Israel to a standstill last summer. Many of the anti-tank rockets that wreaked havoc on Israeli ground forces originated in Syria, a crucial conduit for the Iranian Katyushas and other rockets that rained down on Israeli cities throughout the 34-day war.

As our friend Carl in Jerusalem at Israel Matzav so aptly puts it

Israelis are overwhelmingly opposed to withdrawing from the Golan and do not trust Assad. An overwhelming 84% of the Israeli public opposes handing over the entire Golan Heights to Syria, according to a Maariv/Teleseker poll. However, these 84% are divided into two groups: one, with 44%, opposes any Israeli withdrawal. The remaining 40% support a partial withdrawal.

74% of those surveyed said they do not believe Syrian President Bashar Assad when he says he wants peace. A 'partial withdrawal' is irrelevant unless Olmert is stupid enough to do it unilaterally. It is not something to which Assad will ever agree.

On the other hand, Assad's poll numbers in Israel are better than Olmert's....

It remains to be seen if Dhimmi Carter will offer Olmert the pen to sign the suicide note.

Scouts lose; adults "simply moving forward"

In England, where the Scout movement originated, political correctness rears its ugly head.

For almost 70 years, Scouts and Guides have savoured their place of peaceful worship under the trees.

But no longer. The woodland chapel has been demolished - its wooden pews and rudimentary cross and altar removed. In its place is a campfire circle.

The change has been imposed by the Scout Association, which believes the chapel excludes non-Christian Scouts.

The Fruits of Appeasement

Congressional Democrats and RINOs again demonstrate their willingness to jump in bed with the enemy.

While they will bleat that they are building bridges and opening dialogue with democratic groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, reality says otherwise.

Last month, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress visited Damascus, flattered their hosts, and called for talks with the Syrian dictatorship. Last week Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice broke the administration's boycott by meeting with her Syrian counterpart.

OK, so far, so good. Right?

Mamoun Homsi is a courageous pro-democracy activist who had been one of the few independent members of Syria's puppet parliament. In March 2002 he was thrown out of the legislature and sentenced to five years in prison. As he was dragged off to jail, Homsi shouted, "This is a badge of honor to me and others like me. Long live the people!"

Released after four years in 2006, Homsi immediately left the country, saying there was no possibility of changing the regime by reform, and that any criticism would bring more imprisonment.

Homsi wrote Pelosi a letter urging her not to visit Syria as such a step would only strengthen the regime. Last week, the government seized all of his assets in the country, leaving his family destitute.

Will they ever learn?
