Government Lackey Announces Plan to Reduce BS

Well not actually bullsh*t, but rather the methane gas given off by cow manure. Ever since the EPA announced that they were going to crackdown on the so-called greenhouse gases, the enviro crowd has engaged the warp drive to cram this down everybody's throats. The target here is cattle farmers, and as always the biggest concern among those who will have to try and live up the pie in sky, deluded dreams of the enviro wackos is the cost.

The plan calls for persuading more American farmers to purchase an anaerobic digester, which essentially converts cow manure into electricity. The problem is that, so far, only 2 percent of U.S. dairy farmers are using the technology, mostly because it is too costly for family farmers.

So far this only a memorandum asking for voluntary cooperation. Yeah, right. As soon as the goals aren't being met the all powerful EPA will swoop in with their taxes, fines, and penalties to encourage the recalcitrant offenders into obedience.

Tom Vilsack, the Agriculture Secretary, hinted at just such a thing.

Vilsack acknowledged that farmers, who would be exempt from capping their emissions under current climate legislation, would be motivated to take part by selling offsets or emission credits on voluntary carbon markets, or eventually in a government cap and trade system.

G-8 Decision On Emissions Is Appealing

At the G-8 summit in Germany, a decision was made to put forth an effort to reduce 'greenhouse gases' to combat 'global warming'.

The G8 group's decision to considerably decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 is "seemingly courageous and in any case very appealing for those who cannot imagine its consequences," Czech President Vaclav Klaus said in an article published in the daily Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) today.

Klaus, in his article, asks the leaders of the seven most advanced countries and Russia, why they made the decision, whether they know the method to secure the goal and whether they have the right to interfere in billions of people's lives half a century after their mandate expires.

Klaus writes that there are no convincing scientific pieces of evidence proving that the earth faces a massive global warming and that human activities, mainly greenhouse gas emissions are the cause of the "slight warming".

It is mainly said in the "commitment" of the world leading politicians that they express "immense historical pessimism", Klaus says.

"They have demonstrated that they do not believe in positive results of unregulated creative spontaneity of human society and that they primarily believe in the duty to plan and organise it from the above," Klaus writes.

He added that the "green" movement, "which - unlike the climate - has become the real global danger of the present," is pushing politicians into this position.

Neither the Goracle nor newly-minted environmental expert Jean-Pierre Kerry were available for pontificating comment.

G8 Leaders Agree To Climate Deal

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the G8 would negotiate within a UN framework to seek a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol by the end of 2009.

No mandatory target was set for the cuts, but Mrs Merkel's preference for a 50% emissions cut by the year 2050 was included in the agreed statement.

George Bush last night pledged the United States to a "substantial" cut in greenhouse gas as the west's leading industrial nations agreed to negotiate a new climate change deal within the next two years.

After strong lobbying from EU leaders, Mr Bush agreed to "seriously consider" a proposal that would result in a 50% cut in carbon emissions by 2050 but made it clear that US involvement depended on India and China being included in any agreement.

Long forgotten is the fact that William Jefferson Clinton never submitted the Kyoto Accord to the Senate for ratification. Never, the Goracle notwithstanding.

Europeans Pay For China To Cut 'Greenhouse Gases'

Power generators and other polluting firms are buying "carbon credits" from countries such as China to offset their own emissions.

But where the Chinese gain by cleaning up their factories and selling the resulting credits, European consumers lose as the costs are often passed on in the form of higher energy bills.

Last year alone, European companies spent around $2.5bn (£1.25bn) on carbon credits from China.

Although action to tackle global warming is generally welcomed, consumer groups worry that poor people are finding it increasingly difficult to pay this energy "tax".

Jonathan Smith, a spokesman for the international power company E.ON, admitted the purchase of carbon credits had contributed to a rise in utility bills in Europe, and warned that the cost of buying carbon credits was likely to rise over the coming years.

Newly-minted environmental expert Jean-Pierre Kerry was unavailable for comment; and Nancy Pelosi was out shopping for trees.
