Militia Morons Had Little Influence

Not only did we find out today that one of these militia clowns is a registered Democrat, but now it's reported they had a very limited sphere of influence. Quick, someone alert Frank Rich before he embarrasses himself with his next screed.
The leader of a self-proclaimed group of "Christian warriors" had lofty ambitions: Set up chapters around the U.S., stockpile a massive cache of weapons and even establish his own country as he prepared to battle the Antichrist, authorities say.

David Brian Stone never got too far in his plans. His influence didn't appear to extend much beyond a close circle of family and friends, and associates say other militias refused to come to his defense during raids late last month.

"These guys may have felt in their mind that they were a part of this brotherhood," said Andrew Arena, head of the FBI in Detroit. "The reality is I don't think they've got a whole lot of support."

Stone, his two sons, wife and five others were arrested after the raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio and charged with seditious conspiracy, attempting to use weapons of mass destruction and other crimes. Authorities say the nine, who were members of the Christian militia called Hutaree, were plotting to kill police officers in hope of sparking an anti-government revolution.

A federal judge in Michigan on Friday ordered eight of the suspects, including Stone, to remain locked up until trial. The ninth suspect is being held in Indiana. Defense attorney James Thomas, who appealed the judge's ruling, said while the charges are serious, "the indictment is nothing more than a piece of paper."
So much for the lamestream media meme that nine buffoons playing GI Joe out in the woods pose some grave threat to America.

A despondent Keith Olbermann was unavailable for comment.

Uh Oh: Militia Member a Registered Democrat

Well, look what we've got here. A militia member from the party of Obama.

Keith Olbermann hardest hit.
Most of the indicted militia members accused of being anti-government extremists have active voting records, a check with area voter registration offices showed yesterday.

One is a registered Democrat, and the party affiliations of the rest could not be determined.

Jacob J. Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio, voted as a Democrat in the 2004 and 2008 primary elections, and in 10 other elections since 2000. Voters' political affiliations in Ohio are determined by which party's ballot they request during even-year primary elections.

Alleged ringleader David Brian Stone, Sr., 45, of Clayton, Mich., registered in Lenawee County, Michigan, in 1998, and last voted in the 2004 general election.

His, and other Michigan voters' party affiliations, if any, are not public records because of Michigan's open primary elections, officials said.
Be assured if they were Republicans it would be national news 24/7.

FBI Sees Little Chance of Militia Outbreak, Olbermann Hardest Hit

So much for that explosive growth of militias.
There's a lot of anger out there. But the alleged plot by Midwestern militants and violent outbursts by scattered individuals don't signal any coming wave of extremist violence, federal investigators say.

There's more fizzle than fight among self-styled militias and other groups right now, they say, and little chance of a return to the organized violence that proved so deadly in the 1990s.

Militia extremist statements "primarily have served as an expression of anger after a particular event," according to an FBI intelligence bulletin obtained by The Associated Press. "The FBI assesses the likelihood of violent conflict from the remaining group members or other militia extremists as low."
Bathtub Boy won't be taking this well.

Time for Another 'Militias on the Rise' Story

You see this one every few years, usually during a Democrat administration. Naturally it comes from the far left Southern Poverty Law Center and leaps to wild conclusions.
Militia groups with gripes against the government are regrouping across the country and could grow rapidly, according to an organization that tracks such trends.

The stress of a poor economy and a liberal administration led by a black president are among the causes for the recent rise, the report from the Southern Poverty Law Center says. Conspiracy theories about a secret Mexican plan to reclaim the Southwest are also growing amid the public debate about illegal immigration.

Bart McEntire, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, told SPLC researchers that this is the most growth he's seen in more than a decade.

"All it's lacking is a spark," McEntire said in the report.

It's reminiscent of what was seen in the 1990s - right-wing militias, people ideologically against paying taxes and so-called "sovereign citizens" are popping up in large numbers, according to the report to be released Wednesday. The SPLC is a nonprofit civil rights group that, among other activities, investigates hate groups.

Last October, someone from the Ohio Militia posted a recruiting video on YouTube, billed as a "wake-up call" for America. It's been viewed more than 60,000 times.
Any casual user of YouTube could tell you a video seen 60,000 times over the past ten months isn't very much.

Heck, this little blog you're reading had more page views than that in the past week.

Uh oh, I better watch out or we'll soon be termed a threat to society and reported to the White House snitch line.

Read the rest of the AP nonsense if you need to, but it's simply a tired regurgitation of a SPLC press release, though you can bet it'll sure get plenty of air time on the failing television networks today.

This isn't to suggest there are some loosely organized fringe groups out there, but their numbers are insignificant despite the scare tactics of the SPLC and their ilk. Seems to me your average gang, be it MS-13, the Bloods or the Crips pose a far greater danger to the public. But I guess mentioning them would be raaaaacist!
