US invasion of Iraq destabilize Indian neighborhood
India's former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh has said that the US invasion of Iraq has destabilized India's neighborhood.
Addressing a seminar 'Islam on terrorism' here Saturday, Singh said that the American war in Iraq has no doubt contributed in the destabilization of India's neighborhood.
"We have repeatedly warned that it was one day bound to affect American shores also. It is, in fact, the new form of imperialism which America is now pursuing."
Speaking at the seminar organised by the Jama Masjid United Forum, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said 'Islam, I know, explicitly forbids targeting women, children, the aged and the defenseless. Islam means peace, so how can Islam encourage terrorism? "I don't think any man of God can kill innocent people. A person who is a terrorist could belong to any religion," the minister told the conference.
Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Muzaffar Beg said the worst hit by terrorism was Islam.
"If you ask, who is the worst hit by terrorism, then it is of course, Islam and its followers," he said.
"It is time that we give a thought to the role of the so called power brokers who are real extremists and perpetrators of terrorism," he added.
