Pat Robertson, one of the most influential figures in the social conservative movement, will announce his support for Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid this morning in Washington, D.C., according to sources familiar with the decision. This may now quell some of the fears of religious conservatives, but at the same time the secular left will be having fits over Giuliani now being in the clutches of the "evil" religious right.
Pat Robertson's endorsement of Rudy Giuliani is a significant blow to Mitt Romney, who has worked hard to court evangelical leaders. Robertson's support was coveted by several of the leading Republican candidates and provides Giuliani with a major boost as the former New York City mayor seeks to convince social conservatives that, despite his positions on abortion and gay rights, he is an acceptable choice as the GOP nominee.
Sure enough, the comments in the above link look like they're straight out of the Huffington Post.
My first inclination is to laugh in the faces of every social conservative who votes for Rudy because of their lack of principles and blatant hypocracy. However, on further reflection, I believe I'll spit in their faces given the damage the religious right has brought about with its narrow worldview and blind obedience to one failed president and now its support for another.Isn't that sweet?
