A day that will live in infamy
That is how then President Franklin Roosevelt characterized it 66 years ago when he gave a speech before Congress describing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
That attack is now the second worse attack on America by a foreign force, the attacks of 9/11/2001 have eclipsed that. It is however an attack that is forever seared into the American psyche. Maybe it was because it came from a country rather then a rag tag group of religious zealots. Maybe it was because it woke America up to the fact that its' separation from Europe and the rest of the world by virtue of its location between two large oceans and friendly neighbors on the other borders. Whatever the reason it did have the affect of waking up a "Sleeping Giant".
In memory of all that was lost that day, but in honor of all that was gained let's remember this day not in celebration but in solemn reflection of what occurred that day and how it helped to make this nation the greatest nation on this planet.
