Chow time




Another metro Atlanta county gets aboard the illegal immigration bandwagon.

This time it is Gwinett county. Previously Cobb county had begun a rigid enforcement of identifying and making available for deportation illegals that they detained. Gwinett now wants to be able to do the same thing.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Map, News) - The Gwinnett County Commission chairman wants the sheriff's department to begin enforcing federal immigration laws.
Chairman Charles Bannister is calling for Sheriff Butch Conway to sign up for a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement program that trains deputies to start deportation proceedings for illegal immigrants booked into the jail.
In 2007, Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren became the first sheriff in Georgia to initiate the ICE program. A spokeswoman for ICE, Pat Reilly, says Whitfield County in north Georgia will begin training deputies this month.

Army retiree fights to go back to Iraq or Afghanistan.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- An Ohio man who was forced to retire from the Army when he turned 60 wants back in for another tour in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Former Master Sergeant Austin Asher left the service in 2007 after 31 years in the Army, National Guard and Army Reserves, including two tours of Iraq.
