Governor of NW region of Pakistan resigns

More bad news out of Pakistan. This is wild west tribal region that the Islamist have decided on as their new base of operations.

The governor of Pakistan's restive North West Frontier Province, Ali Mohammad Jan Orakzai, has resigned. The development comes amid continuing violence linked to Islamist guerrillas hiding in remote, mountainous villages near the Afghan border. Retired Lt Gen Orakzai, one of the few officers of tribal origin in the upper echelons of the Pakistani army, cited personal reasons for his departure. But the continuing violence in tribal areas may have brought it about.

The situation in Pakistan continues to deteriorate. The Islamists thrive on chaos to seize power and build bases of operations like they are doing in Somalia and the Sudan. How the central government reacts remains to be seen but I don't see any winning propositions.
