A couple months ago we had the hapless silver spoon protesters at NYU.
Now an even more lame protest at the New School failed miserably, and school president Bob Kerrey tears them a new one.
The band of hooligans who launched an ill-fated bid to take over the New School are a bumbling brood of terrorists that deserve to be locked up, the university's embattled president said today.Heh. Leave them there. I'm sure the nice folks there would enjoy having an little Easter fun with them.
"They put on black masks and wander around New York City? We still remember 9/11 around here," Bob Kerrey told The Post, as the 22 students were paraded in front of a Manhattan arraignment judge on a laundry list of charges.
Kerrey laughed off the half-baked attempt by New School and NYU students to ultimately overthrow his administration.
"An illegal occupation of a building is not a legitimate protest," he said. "There's a long list of legitimate ways to protest a university. This isn't one of them."
On Friday, protesters decked out in dark hoods and scarves over their faces seized a university tower on Fifth Avenue and 14th Street and demanded Kerrey's resignation.
They injured a security guard and swiped a cell phone from a janitor at 5:30 a.m. Friday morning before locking down the building for about five hours.
"I called the NYPD and said there are people who have broken into our building and I want them removed," said Kerrey. "If they do it again, I'll call again."
The rabble-rousers were far less intimidating at court today, where their friends could be heard calling around begging for bail money to keep their pals out of Rikers Island.
Meanwhile, the morons at Indymedia are in full meltdown.
Today we witnessed undoubtedly the greatest disgrace in the history of the New School. Students practicing civil disobedience in occupying a mostly vacant school building have been pepper-sprayed, teargassed, beaten, and then arrested. Bob Kerrey is attempting to shift the blame for this absurdly excessive use of violence on the NYPD, which is not entirely false. 100 of cops, at least 1 helicopter, dozens of barricades, violence against supporters, and the violent arrest of the students is the result of NYPD brutality. However, Bob Kerrey also deserves the blame for turning the police loose on the peaceful occupation and working with them every step of the way as violence continued. He further tries to justify this in the most desperate, pathetic, manner imaginable: rewriting the history of the December occupation and fabricating an incidence of violence on the part of students against a security guard.Geez, imagine their feigned outrage if Kerrey weren't a Democrat.
