Here is the
text of the speech President Obama gave tonight on his new unprecedented plan for surrender in Afghanistan.
Being an Army veteran I for once was interested in what the photo op in chief had to say, and if you haven't guessed by now I wasn't impressed.
He spent some time bringing up the liberals talking points about the monetary cost of the war, which I find sort of ironic given the pace at which this administration has been spending money. Hell he gave more money to GM then it will cost to fund this war for another year.
It boils down to 3 talking points.
1) Bush ignored his commanders and dumped this crap in my lap.
2) I am going to send 30,000 troops.
3) I am leaving in 18 months.
I am not going to parse everything he said, since like all of his speeches it was designed to be all things to all people, but in reality was just a piece of sophomoric drivel. It does however create a whole new set of problems. Primary among them is how are you going to convince our allies to commit to any sort of support in Afghanistan when it is apparent it will be a race to the airport to beat the Taliban out of country.
The other big thing is Al-Queda is now free to pursue operations and training in Somalia or any other third world shit hole they can find until such time as the Americans leave. Sure they will still snipe at the troops, but the smart money says they don't commit any major offensives and simply lay low limiting their exposure and rearming. They can once again work on infiltrating into the infrastructure of countries they wish to destabilize, ready to move with sudden swiftness to take down fragile governments like those in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
The final blow will come in 18 months and 1 day when we are greeted with widespread and massive street celebrations praising the courageous Taliban and Al-Queda for beating yet another super power proving once again their belief that they are indeed God's chosen people. Imagine what that will do for recruiting. I dare say that is a far better hook then being a suicide bomber.
All I can say for certainty is that any troops that are committed need to bear in mind that they can not take any prisoners, least they only return home to find those very terrorists loose on the streets of America thanks to a judicial system run amuck or else find themselves on trial for mistreating one of these rejects from hell. Besides we are closing Gitmo anyway and by leaving Afghanistan that takes Bagram out of the picture so there is no place to put them anyway except in that nice little prison in Illinois.
