FIREBRAND Respect candidate George Galloway had his aspirations dashed today as Labour's Jim Fitzpatrick held on to the Poplar and Limehouse seat.Maybe he can permanently relocate to Palestine now.
The Record columnist, elected MP in the neighbouring constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow in 2005, failed to pull off a similar coup this time round.
And he was nowhere to be seen as the results were finally announced, prompting cries of "where is he?"
A jubilant Mr Fitzpatrick made no effort to hide his feelings as he addressed his own supporters to loud cheers, following what was a long and drawn out count.
"The disrespect party has clearly suffered a huge defeat and that's another major positive from yesterday," he said.
And in a pointed jibe at the Respect candidate, he added: "Thankfully we don't have to hear that dreadful open-topped bus driving around Tower Hamlets noisily anymore.
