Georgia Attorney General Craps On Citizens Again

Lately in Georgia there has been a battle brewing between our attorney general, Thurbert Baker, and everybody else. This has got to be the only lawyer in America who can't figure out to file a lawsuit. He is also running as a Democrat in the upcoming governors race.

My question for the voters, the legal ones that is, is why would you vote for some schmuck who obviously isn't putting the concerns of its citizens above his seemingly blind allegiance to all things Democrat?

What am I talking about?

Earlier this year the governor directed him to look into filing a lawsuit and joining in with the other states contesting the passage of Obamacare. His response was there was nothing to it and he refused. As a result the state has filed suit but the assistance of some private attorneys who are doing the work pro-bono.

Now he refuses to fight for the citizens of Georgia in regards to their efforts to clean up the voter rolls in the state. This campaign was started by former Secretary of State Karen Handel, who coincidentally is running for governor on the Republican ticket, and the case has been continued by her replacement.

Ever the loyal Democrat once again Baker refuses to push the case, which has been getting kicked around by the courts. One thing to make readers aware of is that Georgia, as in most southern states, has to abide by something called the Voters Rights Act. This legislation was passed in the heyday of the Civil Rights movement and imposes some very draconian measures on southern states in regards to voting. Something the bluenoses in New England have not a clue about. Basically what it does is require southern states to receive federal approval to make any changes to it's voting processes and procedures.

When Karen Handel was the Secretary of State she uncovered real evidence of illegal aliens and others who are not qualified to vote in the state participating in the voting. In order to counter it she started a plan to require photo ID and other verification procedures to ensure the voters were protected. The use of a photo ID has already been approved by the Supreme Court. Of course a liberal judge here and one there has constantly thrown roadblocks up.

I have read and heard on many occasions that a lawyer could indict a ham sandwich, but apparently in Georgia we have an Attorney General who can do nothing but eat ham sandwiches. Thurbert is the personification of the problem with politics in this country today. None of the politicians are looking out for those who elected them, rather their loyalty is to their party first with the citizens somewhere down the list between getting a tax payer funded credit card and figuring out how to upgrade their tax payer transportation to the newest vehicle.

I would hope this last act by Mr Baker would also seal his doom on any aspirations he has to be governor. He shouldn't make it past the primaries, but the citizens of Georgia need to pay close attention to the slate of candidates running for Attorney General and try to elect one who is going to stand for the citizens of Georgia and not their party.

And I don't care which party ticket they run on.

No More Enemy Combatants At Gitmo

In a filing today with the federal District Court for the District of Columbia, the Department of Justice submitted a new standard for the government's authority to hold detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility. The definition does not rely on the President's authority as Commander-in-Chief independent of Congress's specific authorization. It draws on the international laws of war to inform the statutory authority conferred by Congress. It provides that individuals who supported al Qaeda or the Taliban are detainable only if the support was substantial. And it does not employ the phrase "enemy combatant."

You read that right. They are only detainable if their support of the Taliban or Al Queda was substantial. What the hell does that mean? What is substantial support?

Of course the Attorney General, Eric Holder, says this makes our country stronger. Really? It sure don't make me feel any safer. But safety isn't important is it? Only our standing from a public relations standpoint counts or matters. This administration keeps chasing after this drug induced, 60's hippies, magical unicorn belief that if we just play nice everybody will love us.

Notice they also talk of meeting some sort of international standard.

The government's new standard relies on the international laws of war to inform the scope of the president's authority under this statute, and makes clear that the government does not claim authority to hold persons based on insignificant or insubstantial support of al Qaeda or the Taliban.

Pray very hard that this administrations misguided and non reality based line of thinking does not come back to hurt us, but I don't see anyway that can be avoided. The Islamic radicals will exploit any weakness, perceived or real to strike hard. If I was them all I see coming out of this administration is weakness.

Over 700 Immigrant Families Ripped Asunder

In a move that is sure to further strain relations between Mexico and the US, jack booted federal agents acting under authorization of the federal government once again targeted the immigrant community in predominately Democratic states, forcefully ripping apart families of immigrants, many just seeking a better life for themselves in this country. These raids many carried out in the pre dawn hours or in the middle of the night were no doubt designed to terrorize the Hispanic community while raising several civil rights issues.

What? Alright guys, real funny. Who gave me last years style book? Come on Bush ain't in office anymore and now you are going to make me rewrite the damn article.

Okay here is the real deal. The headlines trumpeted the fact that over 750 arrests were made involving illegal immigrants from drug cartels operating in this country. What got lost in the headlines is the details. In reality overnight only 52 additional arrests were made bringing the total to 750.

Investigators made 52 arrests in overnight raids in California, Minnesota and Maryland, increasing to more than 750 the number of suspects detained in the coast-to-coast operation to disrupt the Sinaloa cartel, Holder said.

So I wonder who made the other 700 arrests? Well this is the end of a 21 month long operation. So let me see Eric Holder, Attorney General for less then 2 weeks and the Obama administration has been in office barely a month so that must mean all of the other arrests and the bulk of this operation was carried out under the BUSH administration.

We all know that the way I started off this article would no doubt be the way it would have been reported if we hadn't had a change in the White House. Instead we have stories which points to an administration who appears to be getting serious about the war on drugs, but not Islamic terrorists.

If Bush was in office there is no doubt human rights groups and community organizing groups like La Raza would be consulting with their ACLU lawyers to figure out how many civil rights had been violated while the media would be parading tearful women with their broods before the cameras. With Obama in office they have to remain silent since they are about to be rewarded with all kinds of taxpayer dollars disguised as stimulus money into their coffers.

By the way you may have noticed how quickly this story is disappearing from the various news sites, mostly because it was realized that the heavy lifting on this done was done under the Bush years. Admit it. When you first heard this story today, if you heard, didn't you think that there was 750 arrests all carried out at one time?
