Obamabots Heed The Call To Arms

We knew the debate over this healthcare legislation was going to get heated, and this morning when I woke up I was greeted with a couple of stories involving some heated exchanges at a couple of these townhall meetings, so I immediately went to the web to get the rest of the story that the soundbites on tv couldn't. Of course it didn't take long to find stories of union thugs getting preferential treatment at one townhall meeting and at least one incident of a woman who lost her cool and slapped a man in her vigorous defense of socialized medicine.

One of the representatives from my area, Hank Johnson (D-GA/4) is holding a townhall meeting on Monday August 10th from 7 PM to 9 PM. Hank now holds the seat formerly held by Cynthia McKinney so you already have a good idea of the makeup of the district.

A blog that writes about politics in Georgia, Peach Pundit, put up a post announcing this meeting, no comment about it, just an announcement. BTW Peach Pundit is run by the same guy who runs the Redstate blog, Eric Erickson.

Well some of the comments are very revealing to say the least.

Yes, please show your lily white behinds down in Clarkston after dark and yell loud obscenities at Hank in a crowd filled with his friendly supporters.

Since the healthcare protesters I’ve seen are usually older conservative white folks, I’ll be amazed if that demographic is anywhere near Memorial Drive around sunset.

If you think these comments are made lightly here is a news report from March 2008, but things haven't changed, if anything they have gotten worse in this liberal stronghold.

It looks like there might be another "teachable" moment here.

Suspended For Running Background Check On Obama

Remember the whole Joe the Plumber debacle? In that case a private citizen had his private life investigated and exposed for daring to assert that then presidential candidate Barack Obama might have some economic policies that weren't in the best of tradition of the free enterprise system that had has made America still the envy of the rest of the world by a government employee. I, and most others, spoke out against that so to stay consistent I must say that these guys shouldn't have done this either without some sort of justification, however I do find it odd that they get suspended right away after an inquiry from the Secret Service.

The United States Secret Service notified county officials that DeKalb County computer equipment was utilized to do a query on the President.

Such behavior, said William “Miz” Miller, DeKalb Public Safety director, is not to be tolerated.

The message should be clear. If you are going to do this sort of thing you need to be prepared for Big Brother to come a knocking. It no longer seems to matter whether you do this from home or work, a well placed phone call will find you on the wrong side of the powers that be.

I am not defending the officers, although I will bet at the time the officers were more curious then they had any sort of malevolent intent. What is even more ironic is that Dekalb county, a suburb of Atlanta voted overwhelmingly for Obama.

Be careful out there boys and girls, and don't use government equipment to do research.

The DeKalb County policeman's last conversation with his wife, Yolanda, Tuesday evening involved the mundane logistics of parenting. Yolanda worked an early-morning shift as a check processor and watched their four children each evening. He made sure they were dressed and fed the next morning and got them off to school.
Barker called his wife from work around 6:30 p.m. to find out where she'd put their 5-year-old boy's school things and to gather details about the nap of one of the younger boys.
Six hours later, Eric Barker lay mortally wounded in an apartment parking lot.

Two more veterans linked to homicide

I have written about Dekalb county, a suburb on the west side of Atlanta, a couple of times, normally in relation to the number of homicides they have. Last night 2 off duty police officers were killed. They were in uniform working as security guards at an apartment complex. It appears, according to the first reports, that they were ambushed. They were called to the scene and shot according to the police spokesman shot execution style. The search is on for 2 black males. Notice how the police are not afraid to put out a full description of the suspects when it one of their own. Normally around here they play it close to the vest regarding the race of any suspects.
The county has already had 4 murders this year before this.

UPDATE: 01/17/2008 One of the slain officers, Ricky Bryant, is a former Marine. The other, Eric Barker, is an Army veteran with tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Officer Barker is also a 12-year veteran of the Army. His wife said he has served time in Afghanistan and Bosnia.

“You know the USA is supposed to be the safest country out of all the country’s he’s been to but he gets shot and killed in his own country, it's not right, it's not fair,” Barker said.

I wonder if this is noted by the NY Times. So far 2 suspects have been arrested in conjunction with the murders.

UPDATED: 01/18/2008 There are now 3 people arrested in connection with the murders and they are looking for a 4th.

Where do you want to live?

From time to time I post about local issues here in the metro Atlanta area, but I think this set of headlines from todays AJC (Atlanta Journal-Constitution) pretty sums it up. The county I live in is Cobb a Republican stronghold and the people that brought you Newt Gingrich. Dekalb is festering cesspool of liberal democrats that used to be home to one Cynthia McKinney. Clayton is located on the south west side and is also a strong Democrat hangout.

So Cobb county is lauding a woman fire chief who is retiring after 30 years, a self made millionaire at the age of 28, and a young girl who helped to win some money for her school as well as winning a laptop for herself. Oh yeah did I mention she is the child of Russian immigrants. Meanwhile Dekalb and Clayton is just a police blotter report.
If you want to see the difference between Democrat and Republican policies in action in microcosm the metro Atlanta area is a great test lab.

Dekalb County, GA (A place you want to avoid)

Here in the Atlanta area the crooks seem to be targeting the cops. First item:

Atlanta police were still searching for suspects Christmas Day in the carjacking of an off-duty police officer.
Two men wearing all black put guns to the officer's head as she got out of her Chrysler 300 at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex in the 1300 block of Kimberly Way, said Officer James Polite, a department spokesman.

The one item missing from this story is the fact that she was in uniform at the time so they knew she was a cop.

Peoples evidence 2:

An off-duty Marietta police officer injured in a drive-by shooting was in critical condition Tuesday at Grady Hospital, said DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.

The female officer's name has not been released.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Monday at a Christmas party in a DeKalb County home, located near Covington Highway and I-285. Police have no motives or suspects, Parish said Tuesday.

And apparentely the bus drivers aren't safe either.

A MARTA bus driver was stabbed while on his bus Monday night.

DeKalb County Police Department Supervisor Aaron Nix confirmed the stabbing, which occurred at around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Miller Road and Covington Hwy. Nix said the driver was taken to Grady Hospital but the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

MARTA Police are investigating the incident.

The crime stories all have one common thread. They occur in Dekalb county, former home of Rep Cynthia McKinney and current home of Vernon Jordan (D), who has announced his intentions to challenge Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) for his Senate seat this year. Dekalb county is the most crime ridden portion of Atlanta. They made a big deal out of taking in a bunch of New Orleans folks who were too stupid or hardheaded to get out of the way of a hurricane.

Not saying there is a correlation but if they find the suspects somewhere in narrative will probably be the words "former resident of New Orleans". For anybody contemplating a move to the Atlanta area 2 areas to avoid are Dekalb and Clayton county.

Clayton County has had their school system lose their accreditation once already, about 2 years ago, and is in danger of losing their accreditation again over the actions of their school board.

Well, I don't guess I will have any friends from those two Chambers of Commerce.
