Denver Cabbies Fear Being Stiffed by Democrat Delegates

Now where would these guys get the notion that a promise from Democrats is worthless? I mean, the Democrats have such a longstanding tradition of paying for everything in advance and never running up a debt, right?
The 5,000 delegates coming to Denver for the Democratic National Convention will each be getting $40 transportation vouchers.

But the vouchers may be worthless in the eyes of some taxi drivers.

City Councilman Michael Hancock said some taxi company owners are concerned their drivers won't accept vouchers out of fear the Denver 2008 Host Committee won't reimburse them.

"We want to make sure that taxi drivers feel confident that they'll be taken care of . . . and that we don't have uncomfortable taxi drivers out there," Hancock said Tuesday. "They don't make very good ambassadors."

Hancock revealed the taxi drivers' reservations about the voucher program during the final City Council briefing on the DNC, which opens Monday.
Vouchers? How about these fatcats dig into their own pockets and pay their own way?

Better yet, if we're going to have vouchers, why not have carbon credit vouchers? This way they can get a free ride and pretend they're doing something for the environment.
Chris Lopez, spokesman for the local host committee, which is responsible for raising the money to put on the DNC, said cabbies will be made whole. "We will make good on every voucher," he said.
Of course, a Democrat's word is as good as gold, right?

Denver Police to Lock Up DNC Detainees in Metal Cages

Forget watching the silly antics of the Democrat Convention. I'd rather see coverage of the theater of the absurd outside, as human debris of all kind gather to make a nuisance of themselves.

Now this news comes along showing how the scum that gets arrested could be warehoused in metal cages.

Oh, the humanity. Maybe with any luck we can get video access of what goes on in there as well.
Some protesters arrested at the Democratic National Convention could be jailed in a city-owned warehouse, complete with metal cages and barbed wire, CBS4 News has learned.

Investigative reporter Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside Tuesday for a look. The newly created lockup, in a warehouse northeast of Denver, contains dozens of metal cages made of chain-link fence material, topped by rolls of barbed wire.

Each of these fenced-in areas is about 15 feet by 15 feet, with a lock on the door.

A sign on the wall reads "Warning, electric stun devices used in this facility."

Sallinger showed video of the warehouse to Adam Jung of Tent State University [Tent State? -ed.] and Zoe Williams of Code Pink, leaders of groups that plan to demonstrate during the convention. "This is very bare-bones and very reminiscent of a political prisoner camp or a concentration camp," Williams said.

"That's how you treat cattle," Jung said. "You showed the sign where it said stun gun in use. And you just change the word gun for bolt, and it's a meat-processing plant."

The Denver Sheriff's Department would not discuss the facility. Instead, the sheriff's department said late Tuesday the mayor's office would be releasing a statement about it early next week.
Nothing like overwrought hyperbole, comparing a possible arrest at a political convention with people who've suffered and died in real concentration camps.

Of course, these people don't give a shit about political prisoners in Communist countries. Why else would the leader of Code Pink have lived in Cuba?

Whatever You Do, Don't Question Her Patriotism

I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of this crap in the near future. But complain? Why, we can't do that. It would be raaaaacist!

Denver's City Council president is getting hammered with hate-filled messages in response to Tuesday's surprise performance of the "Black National Anthem" by a jazz singer during a city event.

Chanteuse René Marie had been invited by Mayor John Hickenlooper's office to sing the national anthem during his annual State of the City address.

Council President Michael Hancock, the master of ceremonies, introduced Marie, who sang what is known as the "Black National Anthem" instead.

Her performance evoked angry reactions among some of the estimated 700 people at the event.

"There is no substitute for the national anthem. Period," Councilman Charlie Brown said.

Slapstick Politics has much more.

DNC Needs to Step Up Fundraising

The DNC (Democratic National Committee) needs to step up its fund raising activities. Why? To pay for the security in Denver for their convention. Or at least that is who should have to foot the bill. Denver is trying to get other law enforcement agencies in the state to give them some additional police for the upcoming Democrat convention which everybody fears will be over run with protesters. Of course, I have no doubt they are going to try and get the taxpayers of CO or even across the country to foot the bill for this extra manpower, which is just wrong. Send the bill to the very people who encourage and support all of these protesters, the DNC.

For years the Dems have enabled and encouraged all of these various liberal/progressives to do their bidding, and when the object of their affection was the Bush administration everything was cool. Well now that they are turning their attention to the Democrats themselves. it is a Frankenstein monster that they have created that is now turning on it's creator and master and threatening to destroy them. When you cater to the likes of Kos and Huff'N'Puff readers you have to expect the results.

The Democrats convention is scheduled for August 25-28 and it ought to be an interesting time. Sorry for the citizens of Denver, and at this time it looks like the cost of hosting this thing is going to far outweigh any economic advantage they could have hoped to gain.

This is the cost of liberalism.
