Way Too Much Information: Yankees Share Special Good Luck Charm

Newsflash: Washed-up Yankee likes to wear a gold thong to help him get out of a slump.

Disturbing newsflash: Other Yankees also wear the same gold thong.

I think I'm going to puke.
"I only put it on when I'm desperate to get out of a big slump," Giambi told Portfolio magazine's Franz Lidz.

What's more, he has loaned the magic thong to past and current Yanks Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano and Robin Ventura when they went into hitless streaks.

"All of them wore it and got hits," he told Portfolio. "The thong works every time."

Giambi Facing Uncertain Future

Just when you thought all was well in pinstripe-land. Even though the Yankees have come back with a 9-game winning streak, trouble may be right around the corner.

Commissioner Selig may reportedly suspend Yanks' slugger Jason Giambi.

"Bud Selig told Jason Giambi that he'd better cooperate with former Sen. George Mitchell's investigation of steroid use or else. The "else" might be coming.

A high-ranking MLB official who had spoken to Selig told USA Today for a story published Thursday that the commissioner is leaning toward suspending the New York Yankees first baseman."

Of course, the Yankees are much more than just Giambi, but how much of a distraction can one team put up with? I think Giambi is on the tail end of his career, so he would not be that much of a loss. No player is worth this much hassle and trouble. Rumor has it the Yankees are looking to unload Giambi, but there's not much of a market demand for a has-been, slow footed, defensively challenged player like Giambi who can only jerk the ball at home plate and has drug related issues with the league. Cancelling his contract is a dream move that would not pass the laugh test with the players union or, more imprtantly, an arbitrator. It might be time for Cashman and King George to show Giambi to the door and just eat the contract.
