Absurd AP Headline of the Day

When you see such a headline, one thinks perhaps the Democrats have grown a spine and realize we need to get the job done in Iraq:

Democrats seek tougher action on Iraq.

Not quite. By tougher measures, they mean cutting off funds as soon as possible.

WASHINGTON - Tired of waiting for an opportunity to try to stop the war in Iraq, some Democrats say they want to use legislation approving billions of dollars in war spending to insist that President Bush not send more troops.

Others want to use the spending measure to bring the troops home by a certain date.

OK, so they want to spend billions to not fight? What do they plan to do with it? Buy lots of white flags so they can show our good intentions?

All the cowards are lined up for this one.

"The longer we delay taking action, the greater the failure in Iraq and the larger the cost in American blood and treasure," said Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., who supports legislation that would cap the number of troops allowed in Iraq.

I support a cap on the number of waitresses the Sandwich King is allowed to assault.

Meanwhile, Saint Barack wants definitive timetables. Being such a military expert, he clearly knows our enemies will lay down their arms when we leave by a specific date. He's fresh, clean, exciting, and braindead.

Sen. Barack Obama said he would push his legislation ordering troops out of Iraq by March 2008.

"This is not a symbolic vote," Obama, D-Ill., said of his proposal, which is backed by two House Democrats. "This is what I think has the best chance of bringing our troops home."

True, it's not symbolic. It's totally idiotic. A regular groundswell, with two House members supporting it.

Now what would a story on fecklessness be without hearing from our boy Lerch?

Sen. John Kerry, who drafted a similar proposal, said Congress' actions will be watched carefully by voters headed to the polls in 2008.

"If the Congress is going to procrastinate, if they refuse to debate the most important issue of our time ... then that is going to be clear issue in the context of '08," said Kerry, D-Mass.

Forget about winning, doing the right thing, and protecting ourselves well into the future. It's all about the next election.

Election Law Violated in Kerry's Bunny Suit Visit

The ignominy continues for the hapless Lerch. Not only was the NASA visit a campaign violation, it revives the infamous bunny suit photo once again.

He was against looking like an idiot before he looked like an idiot.

Sen. John Kerry's visit to Kennedy Space Center during the 2004 presidential campaign violated the law, according to a federal watchdog agency.

NASA allowed Kerry to conduct a political stump speech and rally at the space center and broadcasted it to KSC employees, and the latter part violates the law, the Office of Special Counsel ruled, according to Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

Beaming the presidential campaign rally to government employees all over the spaceport violates laws prohibiting electioneering using federal resources, according to the report.

Iran Nuke Plans in Chaos?

There seems to be a new story every day as to how far along the Iranians are on their nuclear development.

Iran's efforts to produce highly enriched uranium, the material used to make nuclear bombs, are in chaos and the country is still years from mastering the required technology.

Iran's uranium enrichment programme has been plagued by constant technical problems, lack of access to outside technology and knowhow, and a failure to master the complex production-engineering processes involved. The country denies developing weapons, saying its pursuit of uranium enrichment is for energy purposes.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials deny earlier reports of 3,000 centrifuges being installed. OK, it's probably 2,999, and when we take out their nuke plants, the John Kerrys of the world will say we rushed to war needlessly, as there weren't really 3,000 centrifuges.

An Iranian nuclear agency official has denied claims made by a top lawmaker that the Islamic Republic had begun installing 3,000 centrifuges at an uranium enrichment plant, Iran's state-run news agency reported late Saturday.

Hossein Simorgh, spokesman of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization public relations department, said "no new centrifuges have been installed in Natanz," referring to the nuclear facility in central Iran, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Earlier Saturday, lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran was currently installing the 3,000 centrifuges, underlining that the country would continue to develop its disputed nuclear program despite U.N. sanctions.

It was not immediately clear why the two officials made contradicting statements.

Schilling to Run Against Kerry?

Believe me, I have no love for the Boston Red Sox, though if this were to come to fruition, I'll donate time and money to the campaign.

A pitch for Red Sox ace Curt Schilling to replace John Kerry in the U.S. Senate.

Today's Boston Herald reports there's a move to draft Schilling as Kerry's opponent in the 2008 senate race.

An online poll of 800 voters has Schilling leading Kerry by 96 percent.

Schilling says he isn't ready to toss his hat into the political arena yet.

The Herald report says the groundswell began after a local radio host suggested Schilling would be an ideal candidate to run against Kerry in 2008.

But Schilling may doesn’t feel he’s a good match for Capitol Hill.

“While I am a registered voter, I have too many problems with the political scene, and I don’t think I’d fit into it,” he said.

Schilling, who is planning to retire from baseball after this season, did give a glimpse of what he would do in a political office. His first task would be to “fire everybody and anybody who had anything to do with the Big Dig,” he said.

Schilling said in 2008 he’ll vote either for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), whom he called a personal friend, or Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). “If they are both on the ticket it will be a tough choice,” he said.

I imagine he has some loyalty to McCain after his years in Arizona. But Obama?
