Orrin Hatch: ObamaCare a 'Dumbass Program' and an 'Awful Piece of Crap'

GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah) reportedly directed a few profane insults toward President Obama's healthcare law in a speech late last week.

During at an appearance at an event sponsored by the Utah State University College Republicans, Hatch was asked if he thought the nation's healthcare system needs serious reforms. He acknowledged that states have different problems when it comes to healthcare, but called the federal law Democrats passed last year a "dumb-ass program" that will not solve them. "Every state has different demographics, every state has different problems," Hatch said, according to a Utah Statesman report published Monday. "It's good to allow them to work out their own problems rather than a one-size-fits-all federal government dumb-ass program. It really is an awful piece of crap."

Hatch apologized for swearing, according to the Statesman. Hatch explained that "he does not swear often. He said he is passionate about the health care debate and would repent for using the words that he did," the Statesman wrote.

I suspect Sen. Hatch wouldn't be quite as blunt if he didn't face a possible primary challenge from Rep. Jason Chaffetz.

Unlike that perennial Democrat favorite 'PAYGO' - a budget "constraint" that basically just means we pay as politicians go on bacchanalian spending binges - the balanced budget amendment that Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) are proposing actually has teeth.

Of course, even a balanced budget amendment won't prevent every halfwit who manages to win a seat in Congress from trying to spend money that hasn't even been minted yet - but it should stop enough of them to put America back on a path to fiscal solvency.

Hatch: Hey, How About Supreme Court Justice Hillary?

Doesn't this present an interesting quandary? Do we support getting her out of State, thereby preventing any further bungling incompetence and alienation of our allies? Or is the risk of having her on the Supreme Court for life too much to bear?

Big upside: The robe will prevent us from seeing those hideous pantsuits and believe me, that's a huge plus.

Sen. Orrin Hatch says he's heard Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's name mentioned in connection with the Supreme Court vacancy brought about by the retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens.

Hatch didn't elaborate in an interview Monday. Appearing with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy on NBC's "Today" show, the Utah Republican said only, "I heard Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's name today and that would be an interesting person in the mix."

Hatch wouldn't say whether he'd support Clinton. But he did say "I like Hillary Rodham Clinton" and said he thinks she's done a good job for Democrats.

Let's face it. She'd breeze through confirmation hearings since she's a known commodity. It would also spare Obama any further political damage rather than going the far left route that's sure to rifle feathers in an already heated atmosphere.

Unless he's really itching for a fight, it would be a safe pick. Whether her legal acumen is up to snuff we'll let the lawyers out there decide that. Any thoughts?

ARGGGGH!!! Republican Pressures Obama To Investigate BCS

Well I guess congratulations are due to Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT). Looks like all of the heavy lifting is done in Washington now and he can turn his attention to the really important things in life like pressuring Obama to open an investigation in the BCS (Bowl Championship Series).

Hatch asked the president to launch a Justice Department investigation into the way the BCS — a complex system of computer rankings and polls that often draws criticism — crowns its national champion.

Ahh remember the good 'ol days when it was just a subjective call based on the AP, UPI and coaches polls? Never was any dispute back then was there? Why it seems like only yesterday my precious Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (11-0-1) had to share the National Title with the Colorado Buffalos (11-1-1). That was in 1990.
Mr Hatch's beloved University of Utah got bypassed last year in spite of having an unbeaten record. Not like that has ever happened before.
And I swear to heaven above if anybody mentions anything about it being fair I will absolutely have blood spurt out of my eyes.

Senate Prepares to Tackle Really Major Issue

I guess things will be really slow around Washington next week. Seriously, there isn't anything more pressing than the college football BCS?

The Senate plans to hold a hearing next week looking into antitrust issues surrounding college football's Bowl Championship Series.

It will be the second hearing on the BCS held on Capitol Hill this year, following a contentious one in the House in May.

The Senate Judiciary Committee Web site says the hearing will be next Tuesday in the committee's subcommittee on antitrust, competition policy and consumer rights.

Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the subcommittee's top Republican, had sought the hearing. His office did not immediately return telephone and e-mail messages.

Not that the geniuses at the NCAA who run the BCS have got it running smoothly, but I have more faith they can run their sport than the U.S. Senate can.

Senator Hatch ought to find something more constructive to do with his time than continue whining that the University of Utah was unfairly denied a spot in the BCS Championship last year.
