Oakland Mayor Threatens Anarchists With a Timeout

This woman makes David Dinkins look like a pillar of granite when it comes to placating mindless thuggery. Heck, Mikey Bloomberg could give her tips on how to at least rattle the sabers. But being this nincompoop Jean Quan already surrendered her city to the mob, her next best hope is for the lawless to, ahem, take some responsibility.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan says the Occupy Oakland protesters camped outside City Hall need to move to a "less disruptive" location if they can't learn to behave themselves.

"They have to take some responsibility, they have to step up," she told KCBS-AM in an interview. "If they can't abide by not camping at night and they can't control the violence, they need to work with the city to move the camp to a place that will be less disruptive."

Quan told KCBS she didn't know where that new location could be, but jokingly suggested San Francisco.

What a card. She's a national laughingstock and she's cracking jokes.

Quan's administration has gone back and forth on what to do with the camp in Frank Ogawa Plaza at 14th Street and Broadway, where there are now about 165 tents. First she supported protesters, then approved a police sweep to clear the encampment Oct. 25, then allowed the tents to return.

At a lengthy meeting Thursday night, several members of the City Council hinted that they would like the camp to go away.

That might be easier said than done, Quan told KCBS.

She knows how to play her cards, doesn't she? Such bold, decisive leadership clearly shows she's on the fast track to a top law enforcement post in a future Democrat administration.

Are You Ready for Occupy Wall Street: The Book?

Should be a very short story. The "movement" will surely be consigned to the dustbin of history by the time they plan to have this published.

Progressive publishing house OR Books will release a 200-page first draft of a history entitled Occupying Wall Street: The Inside Story of an Action That Changed America as soon as December 17, using volunteers from the movement's Education and Empowerment Committee, and including work by both "sympathetic writers and people who are active in the occupation," OR co-founder Colin Robinson told New York. The book's release date will mark the protest's three-month anniversary — assuming it survives the onset of winter. By then, the demonstrations will have already have been the subject of an MTV special and plenty of news coverage, but Robinson hopes his "interventionist book" will provide the most extensive chronicling so far. "Although you can't deliver definitive opinions at the moment or set out a course of action, you can record the details of what has happened so far in Zuccotti Park," he said.

I suspect the raging anti-Semitism and defecating won't be mentioned.

I like that part about the action that changed America. Feeling gradiose, aren't we?

Robinson sees the movement as "creating an alternative society in the middle of the financial center of the world," and wants to mirror that "openness and horizontal democracy" in the book's creation, but admits that's impossible to achieve completely. "I don't think you can write a book like that," he said, bristling at the possibility of calling the book an "authorized" account. "At a certain point people have to go away and write it," he said. "You can't approve every sentence. But we'll try to be as open about the process as we can." The idea for the book has not been presented at the movement's nightly general assembly meetings, but Robinson said there has been "a fair amount of support for the idea" among organizers.

I'm thinking this will be bogged down in committee.

While the book will touch on the most newsworthy moments, including the pepper-spray incidents, Brooklyn Bridge arrests, and city cleanup face-off, Robinson is also hoping to capture "quotidian detail," including "how the general assembly works, how the kitchen works, how security works," and so on.

All this Occupy Wall Street nonsense has become is an opportunity for these preening douchebags to get some attention. Here you have this paunchy hag smiling for the cameras as she pretends to be a freedom fighter raging against "greed" or something.

Author and activist Naomi Wolf was among about a dozen people arrested on Tuesday night outside of a Huffington Post event in New York.

A group of approximately 50 demonstrators from Occupy Wall Street showed up at the event--held at Skylight Studios in Manhattan--to protest in front of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was being honored as a "game changer" by Arianna Huffington's site.

Wolf, who contributes regularly to the Huffington Post, was a guest at the event. According to Gothamist, the modern feminist icon challenged a police officer's claim that the protesters needed a permit to use a megaphone.

"After numerous warnings that she would be arrested," Bucky Turco wrote on the Animal New York blog, "she ignored the police and was promptly arrested."

So she writes for the PuffHost and was a guest at the event, yet manages to have herself arrested.

You may barely remember this has-been as the woman who used to advise Al Gore to wear earth tones and for some of her comic stylings at the PuffHost.

Early on, Hitler sought legislation that retroactively protected the SS from war crimes. This was a major step to opening the door to the violence against German citizens that followed. The Bush administration has sought to shield its violent interrogators retrospectively from being charged with war crimes.

Funny, but I don't recall her getting arrested during the Bush years.

Deep Thoughts From Mark Ruffalo: 'We Live With Great Lawlessness in the Land of the Law'

If you have no idea who Mark Ruffalo is, he's some Hollywood twit who obviously has too much free time on his hands, so he's joined up with the filthy anarchists polluting the streets of Lower Manhattan, and he's offering up his keen insights into what ails America.

When people critique this movement and say spurious things about the protesters' clothes or their jobs or the general way they look, they are showing how shallow we have become as a nation. They forget that these people have taken time out of their lives to stand up for values that are purely American and in the interest of our democracy. They forget that these people are encamped in an urban park, where they are not allowed to have tents or other normal camping gear. They are living far outside their comfort zone to protect and celebrate liberty, equality and the rule of law.

Taken time out of their lives? Huh? These people clearly have no jobs or any interest in finding one. They're the 99%? No, they're Obama's 9.1%, left jobless because a guy Ruffalo surely voted for has run our economy into the ground.

It is a thing of beauty to see so many people in love with the ideal of democracy, so alive with its promise, so committed to its continuity in the face of crony capitalism and corporate rule. That should be celebrated. It should be respected and admired.

Crony capitalism? Has this genius heard of Solyndra, by any chance?

Their message is very clear and simple: get money out of the political process; strive for equality in taxation and equal rights for all regardless of race, gender, social status, sexual preference or age. We must stop poisoning our food, air and water for corporate greed. The people on Wall Street and in the banking industrial complex that destroyed our economy must be investigated and brought to justice under the law for what they have done by stealing people's homes and savings.

Um, who exactly is "poisoning our food, air and water"? Can this boob even clarify his statements or cite some examples rather than mouthing platitudes?

This movement transcends political affiliations. America has been debased and degraded by greed. This has touched 99% of America's population. The other 1% is doing just fine – with more than a third of the wealth of this nation.

This transcends political affiliations? Really? Can anyone identify a conservative who's out there sleeping on the street so he can speak truthiness to power or something?

The 99% of us have paid a dear price so that 1% could become the wealthiest people in the world. We all pay insanely high energy prices while we see energy companies making record profits, year after year. We live with great injustices in the land of justice. We live with great lawlessness in the land of the law.

Indeed, I saw plenty of lawlessness just the other day when some filthy maggots shut down the Brooklyn Bridge. But I guess now some wealthy Hollywood actor isn't part of the evil 1%. He should either fire his agent or find a better accountant.

I do agree with Ruffalo on one point: Maybe it's time to get some money out of politics. Let's start by having Ruffalo declare he won't be filling up Democrat coffers any longer or maxing out his donations to Obama. Speaking of which, Ruffalo ponied up $2750 to Obama in 2008, cleverly working around the maximum allowable contributions by splitting it up between the "Obama for America" and "Obama Victory Fund" accounts. But we've got to get money out of politics, according to Ruffalo.

Breaking: 112th Congress 'at Risk of Spike in Incivility'

No idea what planet these people reside on, but it sure isn't Earth.

Want civil discourse? Look no further than the House of Representatives.

The House this year has been a relative bastion of politeness, according to a new study by the Annenberg Public Policy Center. But the center said the 112th Congress looks ripe for incivility to spike with the upcoming 2012 election and the heater campaign rhetoric that comes with it.
Thus far — historically, at least — the House has been surprisingly civil.

Despite some blips — Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama referred to “socialist members of this body” in April, and North Carolina Rep. Mel Watt said in June that Republicans “just make stuff up,” members’ language has been mild compared with attacks in past decades, the study shows.

Really, are those the only examples to cite?

How did they miss this?

“This is the effort that we are seeing of Jim Crow. Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second class citizens. Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me… hanging on a tree,” Carson said at a Aug. 22 Congressional Black Caucus Job Tour even in Miami.

“Some of them right now in Congress right now are comfortable with where we were fifty or sixty years ago,” Carson added. “But it’s a new day with a black president and a Congressional Black Caucus.”

Must have been on vacation or something. Somehow this civil discourse flew under the radar.

California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, who had some tough words for the leaders of her own party last week, took aim at the other side on Saturday, saying that the tea party could "go straight to hell."

"I'm not afraid of anybody," Waters said at a weekend community meeting in Inglewood, California. "This is a tough game. You can't be intimidated. You can't be frightened. And as far as I'm concerned, the tea party can go straight to hell."

Can you handle any more civility?

Republicans' budget plan would put seniors' lives at risk, the incoming chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) said Thursday.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Florida congresswoman tapped by President Obama to lead the DNC, said she stood by her characterization of Republicans' 2012 budget as a "death trap" for seniors.

Those are just a few of dozens of example we could use of this "surprisingly civil" discourse we've witnessed.

There's also an endless supply of clips calling Republicans "hostage takers" from throughout the year. But according to Annenberg we're merely "at risk" of a spike in incivility. So you Republicans are on notice. Don't be mean-spirited or it will be your fault that things become uncivil.

Deep Thinker Eva Longoria on Obama: 'He's Been Governing In, Like, a State of Emergency'

It's nice to see, like, that Obama like has the support of some Hollywood bubblehead. He's so dreamy!

Longoria, who told Kimmel she knows Obama well from her advocacy work on Latino issues, said she took advantage of her time with the President to tell him that he has her support.

"He's been governing in, like, a state of emergency since the time he went into office," said Longoria, who added that "we haven't really seen him do what he can do."

She also took the opportunity to slam what she called "an extremist movement happening” that threatens to derail the commander-in-chief.

Longoria called the movement "very dangerous because it's not the character of America."

The actress didn’t mention the Tea Party by name but when Kimmel asked her specifically about the conservative group she said she can see how it might be "a source for good comedy."

Longoria's comments follow less than a week after actor Morgan Freeman came under fire for calling the Tea Party "a racist thing."

Just keep talking, folks, and keep throwing more money at Obama. Your bitter tears next November will be all the more delicious.

'There Will Never Be a Close Relationship Between Obama and the Left'

The Hill's White House stenographer Sam Youngman treats us to another delusional piece of Obamaganda today by pretending he's not the most far left occupant ever of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. They want us to believe Obama not an ultra-leftist so they can possibly win back independents, I suppose. What other reason can there be for such a ridiculous assertion?

A note to the professional left, minority groups and other liberal supporters of President Obama: Quit waiting for an apology. It’s not going to happen.

And, Mr. President, they’re not going to apologize to you, either.

Despite the intense outreach Obama is now conducting, there will never be a close relationship between Obama and the left. He will have to continue to look upon George W. Bush’s loyal conservative following with envy.

Uh, Sammy, if you recall how low Bush's approval was toward the end of his term, it wasn't simply because the left hated him. He wasn't exactly popular on the right, either.

And the tour he’s undertaking with liberal and minority groups now — the tough love, the chiding, the bullying — that’s as good as it’s going to get.

Because while the left feels as if it has legitimate grievances with Obama — he’s not a fighter, he caves, the public option, Elizabeth Warren — the president feels like he has legitimate grievances with the left.

There may be legitimate grievances from the left, but that's merely because Obama hasn't completely embraced their Stalinist ideology, at least out in the open, especially since he's be in nonstop campaign mode since he assumed office. If he actually said what he wanted to do his approval would be far lower than the miserable 40% or so it currently is.

Obama wants to be seen as the president of the whole United States. He is not, at least publicly, going to give any one group special attention.

Idiot NC Governor: Hey, Forget About That Suspending Elections Thing, It Was Just Hyperbole

Yeah, I guess suggesting suspending elections in a serious tone of voice is just some subtle joke, mere hyperbole. What, you crazy wingsnutz took her seriously?

Let's examine the timeline.

Speaking to a Cary Rotary Club today, N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue suggested suspending Congressional elections for two years so that Congress can focus on economic recovery and not the next election.

"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that," Perdue said. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."

The comment -- which came during a discussion of the economy -- perked more than a few ears. It's unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious -- but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea.

It doesn't appear a anyone did considering we live in America. After the feces hit the rotary oscillator, she backpedaled. Too late, the damage may be irreversible.

Later Tuesday afternoon, Perdue's office clarified the remarks: "Come on," said spokeswoman Chris Mackey in a statement. "Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve."

What we can all agree....I always notice that mealy-mouthed statement these Democrats make, as if all the people should simply agree with them because they're so wonderful or something.

No, we don't all agree, we never will all agree, although tonight I'm sure many, many of us agree this woman isn't served to fit.

The Republicans sure are taking it seriously as they look to score political points. Here's a statement from GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood:

“Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever. To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that people have to hold politicians accountable: the right to vote. Does the Governor not believe that people of North Carolina have the ability to think for themselves about whether or not the actions of elected officials are working?"

Looks like someone in the White House press office needs to brush up on their U.S. geography.

The press office issued credentials to those reporters and photojournalists who are covering the president’s trip this week to Washington state, California, and Colorado. The credential even provides a handy graphic highlighting (in white) which states the president will visit.

The only problem?

Wyoming is highlighted, not Colorado.

Oops.

CNN isn't much better. They claim Wyoming and Colorado are "stacked next to each other" for some reason.

'I Don’t Know Who He Was Talking To, Because We’re Certainly Not Complaining'

Does anyone play dumb better than Maxine Waters? It's a role that comes quite naturally.

“I don’t know who he was talking to, because we’re certainly not complaining,” said Waters, who has been critical of Obama in the past. “We are working. We support him and we are protecting that base because we want people to be enthusiastic about him when that election rolls around.”

Obama told the audience at the annual gala to “take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We’ve got work to do, CBC.”

Waters said she found some of the language Obama used “not appropriate” and said it “surprised me a little bit.”

But remember, she never complains.

We Are All Warren Buffett's Secretary

Quite amazing how MoveOn dot org had this ad all ready to go after Obama's class warfare speech today. It's almost like they're acting in concert or something.

MoveOn is already planning to air a TV ad on national cable stations this week that alludes to Mr. Obama's proposed "Buffett rule." The ad features actors portraying middle class workers who say, "I'm Warren Buffett's secretary" and complain about paying higher taxes than the billionaire investor.

If we lived in a sane world, Warrenn Buffett would just give his secretary a raise and would could, um, move on.

Just wondering, doesn't the left know secretaries are now known as administrative assistants?

'If the 2012 Election Were Held Today, Republicans Could Very Well Have Their Heads Handed to Them'

Apparently Providence Journal hack Froma Harrop hit send on this drivel last night well before NY-9 and NV-2 results came in. Is it possible to be any more out of touch without being an actual member of the Obama administration.

If the 2012 election were held today, Republicans could very well have their heads handed to them. I do not think this alone. Their debt-ceiling hijinks were no doubt immensely amusing to the Tea Party fringe, but to those of us not getting the joke, they were an appalling attack on a fragile economy.

The Tea Party is turning from the voice of anger to its target, and the GOP has it hanging around its neck. The first trumpet blast of wrath came in Teamsters President James Hoffa’s intemperate call at a Democratic rally to — and I tone him down considerably — turn its candidates out of office.

In today's political landscape six weeks is a long time, and that's about when the debt ceiling argument was at its peak. Since then it's been all downhill for Obama and the Democrats. But these lefties just can't let go of that Tea Party chew toy they've been gnawing on.

She goes on to cite a former Republican who couldn't get himself arrested these days. Really, is there anyone on the GOP side who gives a rat's ass what Chuck Hagel thinks?

The baddest sign of all is that the townsfolk are being joined by traditional Republicans (and we assume Republican-leaning independents) who can no longer hold their tongues. For example, former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel told the Financial Times that he was “disgusted” by the campaign against raising the debt ceiling.

“It was an astounding lack of responsible leadership by many in the Republican Party, and I say that as a Republican,” Hagel said. He characterized much of the recent stock-market convulsions as “the complete direct result of the lack of confidence that came out of that folly.”

Hagel held out the possibility that the Republican Party could “go down” in 2012 and that it would have to rebuild as it did after 1964. In that year, Democrats gained the largest House majority held by any party since 1936.

The Democrats just lost a House seat they've controlled since 1923, losing in a district where they outnumber Republicans by 3-to-1. But apparently we don't yet realize 1964 is just around the corner.

Political Science Professors Say Tea Partiers Motivated by 'Racial Resentment'

All you can do is point and laugh at these people.

Two years after it burst onto the political scene, the tea party is getting a critical eye from political science academics who say the movement generally is populated by knowledgeable and religiously devout voters, but they are hypocritical and more likely to be motivated by “racial resentment.”

Gathering this weekend in Seattle for the annual American Political Science Association convention, several professors argued that tea party Republicans are more likely than other voters, and even than most others in the GOP, to harbor racial hostility, as judged by their answers in a broad pre-election survey administered in October 2010.

“Tea Party activists have denied accusations that their movement is racist, and there is nothing intrinsically racist about opposing ‘big government’ or clean energy legislation or health care reform. But it is clear that the movement is more appealing to people who are unsympathetic to blacks and who prefer a harder line on illegal immigration than it is to other Americans,” wrote Gary C. Jacobson, a professor at the University of California, San Diego, in his paper “The President, the Tea Party, and Voting Behavior in 2010.”

In another paper, Alan I. Abramowitz, a professor at Emory University, crunched the numbers from the American National Election Studies’ October 2010 pre-election survey and drew up a portrait of tea party voters that found they are more likely than other Republicans to be registered to vote, to have contacted a public official or to have given to a campaign. They also are generally older, wealthier and more likely to be evangelical.

But like Mr. Jacobson, Mr. Abramowitz also said they were more likely to harbor racial resentment, which he judged based on their answers to questions such as whether blacks could succeed as well as whites if they “would only try harder,” and whether they agreed with the statement that Irish, Italians and Jews overcame prejudice and “blacks should do the same without any special favors.”

Mr. Abramowitz said tea party supporters were substantially more likely than other voters to question how much effort black Americans are making to advance themselves versus being held back by social factors.

“Tea Party supporters displayed high levels of racial resentment and held very negative opinions about President Obama compared with the rest of the public and even other Republicans,” Mr. Abramowitz wrote. “In a multivariate analysis, racial resentment and dislike of Barack Obama, along with conservatism, emerged as the most important factors contributing to support for the Tea Party movement.”

More than a dozen papers at the conference peered into the tea party, its philosophical underpinnings and its role in the 2010 elections, with papers ranging from “Civil Rights and LGBTQ Scapegoats in the Tea Party Movement” and “Passionate Patriotism: Gender and the Discourse of Anger in the Tea Party Movement” to Mr. Abramowitz’s “Partisan Polarization and the Rise of the Tea Party Movement.”

Tea party leaders laughed off the scrutiny and chuckled when they heard the names of the papers.

“This is good; you’re making my day,” said Mark Meckler, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots.

“Statistics show that the vast number of folks that are in the world of academia are liberals,” he said after collecting himself. “Liberals don’t like the tea party movement. I don’t think that’s news.”

These liberals just aren't handling defeat well.

The poll of 1,000 likely voters, conducted on August 30 for the Kean University Center for History, Politics and Policy, found 54 percent approve of the governor’s performance while 44 percent disapprove.

“President Obama has tried to be a conciliator, somebody who seems averse to confrontation, yet his negatives are as high as Governor Christie, who clearly relishes confrontation and gives the appearance of not caring whether people like him or not,” said Terry Golway, director of the center.

Non-confrontational, obviously.

And what exactly was that cheap stunt this week where he tried to bigfoot the GOP debate? That seemed awfully confrontational to most observers. I also suppose urging supporters to bring a gun to a knife fight if merely a reflection of someone always looking to play the role of conciliator?

One very positive note from the poll. Christie is far more popular with independents than Obama is.

Among voters not affiliated with either major party, Christie does better. Fifty-seven percent of unaffiliated voters approved of the governor’s performance, while 42 percent approved of Obama’s.

I wonder if it's occurred to Mr. Golway that people appreciate Christie's "confrontational" candor in lieu of some poll-tested, mealy-mouthed drivel spoken off a teleprompter?
