National Guardsman in Runoff Election

This is for a state legislature seat that was vacated by a Democrat I highlighted earlier who was involved in money laundering, along with a laundry list of other charges. All of the candidates for this position were Democrats, but one of them is a National Guardsman currently serving in Iraq.

Early in the campaign one of the candidates tried to get Malik Douglas disqualified because it is against the law for active duty military to seek political office. The challenger put forth the theory that since he was serving in Iraq he was Active Duty. Fortunately, a judge didn't buy it and then the Secretary of State, Karen Handel, a Republican issued a statement further supporting the efforts of Mr. Douglas.
In a press release Handel said, “The State should not create higher hurdles for brave men and women serving in the Armed Forces who want and are otherwise eligible to stand for election here in Georgia.”
It is no surprise that all of the candidates for the position are Democrats since that portion of the metro Atlanta area is nothing but folks who got no further in the alphabet then the letter D and anybody with a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on their car caught on that side of town simply has suicidal tendencies; but still, once again the Dems show how they support the troops but not the mission. By the way, there are conservatives in that area but none of them put an (R) behind their name.

Disgraced Legislature of Unknown Party Fleeces Church

Just when when Jammie had commented on how the press may be retreating from its policy of not naming a certain political party when they are involved in scandals, here comes another story about our good friend Ron Sailor, a former GA state legislature and some more of his less then shady dealings involving the church that he was the pastor of.

Hmmmm, scanning, scanning, reading, rereading, nope. I don't guess he belonged to any particular political party. I don't see nothing about it in the story.
Just days before pleading guilty to federal money laundering charges, former legislator Ron Sailor Jr. secretly took out a $250,000 mortgage on the church where he was pastor, church leaders said Thursday.

Update to Disgraced Former Democrat State Representative

Earlier I posted about Ga State Representative Ron Sailor who was forced to resign after being found guilty of money laundering.

Well he is back in the news and this time while they didn't lead the story with his party they did manage to work it in.

What is interesting in this update is that the (Honorable) former representative has some ties to former Dekalb county CEO--yes, that is what they call the head of the county government over there and don't ask me why. They're Democrats ought to be good enough.

Why is this important? This same CEO is running on the Democrat ticket to oppose Sen, Saxby Chambliss (R-GA). So a Democrat tied to another Democrat seeking federal office who is involved in taking bribes, er donations, durn it, loans from lobbyists.
Confused? Maybe this will clear it up.
Sailor, a pastor, used a 54-acre farm owned by DeKalb Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones as collateral for the loan, property records show. Wiltshire said Sailor claimed he had an agreement to buy the property.

Jones said Monday he knew nothing about the transaction and called for an investigation into the deal.

"If this happened, that's bizarre and that's fraud," Jones said.

Jones, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Saxby Chambliss, said he first heard about the deal Friday, when a Journal-Constitution reporter asked him about Sailor's use of the property as collateral.

Jones said the property had been for sale, and Sailor had said he might want to buy it.

"He expressed an interest in purchasing my property and he did not purchase it," Jones said. "Apparently he acted inappropriately and he is having to answer those issues."

Vernon Jones has had his own history of scandals including charges of rape, which were mysteriously dropped when the bimbo got a "settlement" and corruption while acting as the head of Dekalb county. DeKalb's most famous resident is Cynthia McKinney.

At least they gave his party affiliation

All the way at the end of the story.

Rep. Ron Sailor Jr. Pleads Guilty To Money Laundering

He is a state representative.
State Representative Ron Sailor Jr. pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges of money laundering.

Sailor, 33, of Norcross, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal district court to a felony criminal information charging him with laundering and attempting to launder what he believed to be drug proceeds, after taking possession and agreeing to launder a total of approximately $375,000 of cash from the purported sale of cocaine.
And finally in the next-to-last paragraph we find out which party he belongs to.
The Democrat is expected to resign Tuesday from the seat he has held since 2001 in the Legislature. He represents District 93, which includes parts of DeKalb and Rockdale Counties.
