National Guardsman in Runoff Election

This is for a state legislature seat that was vacated by a Democrat I highlighted earlier who was involved in money laundering, along with a laundry list of other charges. All of the candidates for this position were Democrats, but one of them is a National Guardsman currently serving in Iraq.

Early in the campaign one of the candidates tried to get Malik Douglas disqualified because it is against the law for active duty military to seek political office. The challenger put forth the theory that since he was serving in Iraq he was Active Duty. Fortunately, a judge didn't buy it and then the Secretary of State, Karen Handel, a Republican issued a statement further supporting the efforts of Mr. Douglas.
In a press release Handel said, “The State should not create higher hurdles for brave men and women serving in the Armed Forces who want and are otherwise eligible to stand for election here in Georgia.”
It is no surprise that all of the candidates for the position are Democrats since that portion of the metro Atlanta area is nothing but folks who got no further in the alphabet then the letter D and anybody with a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on their car caught on that side of town simply has suicidal tendencies; but still, once again the Dems show how they support the troops but not the mission. By the way, there are conservatives in that area but none of them put an (R) behind their name.

To read about Ron Sailors and his sordid past that led to this special election simply click on his name in the labels section.
