Government Workers Using Stimulus Funds for California Vacation

No doubt the White House will spin this as saving/creating 2 gazillion jobs because these school employees are using $400,000 of stimulus funds to fly to California to attend a *cough, cough* conference.

Channel 2 Action News has learned that nearly 200 DeKalb County school employees will be boarding flights to Los Angeles this week to attend an education conference that will cost taxpayers nearly $400,000.

The money isn’t coming from local tax dollars but from federal dollars that came to the county as part of the Obama Administration’s 2009 stimulus package.

I'm sure this is exactly how the taxpayers envisioned their hard earned money that we shipped to Washington would be used. Unless you were like me, who remembered how the Katrina folks got their federal debit cards and spent it on everything from alcohol to hookers, which is pretty much the same thing these folks will probably spend the money on.

Yes, before you even ask, Dekalb County is a Democrat stronghold. They have been represented in Congress by Cynthia McKinney (C-GA) and now are represented hepatitis-C sufferer Hank Johnson.

At least they didn't go to Las Vegas. Too bad they didn't ask Nancy Pelosi to arrange the transportation. I hear she has her own government-run private charter airplanes.

Teachers Get Stimulated, Nobody Else Gets A Tingle

The jobs numbers from Georgia that were supposedly saved, created, or imagined as a result of the stimulus money they received is exactly what the mayors were complaining about at their recent convention.

Of the 24,103 jobs supposedly created, 20,007 of them were government related.

State government agencies accounted for $457.4 million of Georgia’s stimulus funds during the quarter and 20,007 of the jobs, mostly for teachers, college professors, police officers and other public positions.

The stimulus has done nothing to inspire private sector job creation nor has it done anything to improve our economic situation.

The Dems are too busy however, blaming all of this on Bush while conveniently ignoring the fact that a) They controlled the House of Representatives for the last two years of the Bush presidency and b) merely throwing money at something doesn't make it better; in fact it may make it worse.

The other big cause for outrage, at least here in Georgia anyway, is the fact that while school administrators got big pay raises thanks to the funds, the average teacher got little.

I am pretty sure the story is likely the same elsewhere in the country.

500 Jobs and No Stimulus Funds Used

While Obama administration officials struggle with coming up for a number to define how many jobs their full government employment act has created or saved, the Department of the Navy has actually done just that, without any of the phony baloney stimulus money. I am sure Obama lackey's will try to take credit for these jobs using some sort of Orwellian logic, the truth is no stimulus funds were used.

The shipyard plans to add about 500 workers before the end of the summer, Rella said. The first of the 103-meter vessels is taking shape in Austal's new, assembly-line style Module Manufacturing Facility that was unveiled in the fall.

In so doing these new employees will become part of the tax base helping the Mobile, AL area not only by their consumer spending but by once again paying taxes.

You see, what liberals fail to grasp, is to get your economy going you need to have workers that produce a product. A product that can then be sold. Teachers, for all of their hard work in indoctrinating the youth of this country do not return such an investment. Government agencies hiring more people to screw up the already bloated bureaucracy does not add to the economic recovery. Those are the type of jobs that the stimulus money has mainly gone to.

My message to Washington is quite simple. Stop trying to help. You are just getting in the way and delaying our recovery. Their approach is like throwing a rope to a man sinking in quicksand without attaching it to anything and walking away. It only allows the victim to drown in the muck while holding onto a rope.

Sure people will rail that this is just another example of the military industrial complex and thus the bane of society, but I would point those progressive whiners to their favorite hero FDR, who finally enabled this country to pull out of the depression after being forced to ramp up just such a thing in response to WWII. It may sound cynical and callous, but without WWII, this country may not have recovered economically for another decade because of the policies of FDR.

If the government is going to spend my tax dollars, I am glad to see it going to the one thing that our government is specifically tasked with providing, and that is our national security.

Besides, that is one bad ass boat.

America's Mayors Grade The President

This week there has been a meeting in Washington D.C. of about 200 mayors from all around the country. The primary topic of concern was no surprise: Jobs.

While Barry O may want to give himself a B+ as a grade for his performance so far, the mayors on at least one issue give him an F. There was a general consensus that the highly touted stimulus package did just exactly what most average citizens knew it would do.

About 80 percent of stimulus money has gone directly to state governments, they say. Instead of being used to create new jobs, the bulk of the money has been used to save existing state government jobs -- teachers, law enforcement and others -- and for shoring up sagging state budgets.

Still, day after day the talking heads in this administration will trot out their tired talking points about how many jobs have been saved or created, and how we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel, yadda, yadda, yadda.

It now seems apparent that the actions taken by the liberals in Washington have hampered and probably delayed the economic recovery in this country and that light at the end of the tunnel is a freight train headed right for us.

A report issued by the mayors' group this week showed the bulk of the nation's unemployed are in cities. It also predicts that most cities won't see a return to pre-recession employment levels until at least 2013.

Representation For Those Phantom Districts Recovery.gov Says Exist

Totally tongue in cheek, but it certainly drives the point home about how ludicrous this administration is at governing. With 440 phantom congressional districts which got stimulus money, that actually equals more representatives then are currently in the House of Representatives which is 435.

Stimulus Success in New York: $9 Million Spent Per Job

Considering the already bleak re-election numbers facing the poor man who must suffer so much hate, I'm surprised they even released these numbers.

The stimulus isn't doing a thing to help the unemployment rate in the New York metro area, according to shocking new White House data released yesterday.

The feds have spent a half-billion dollars on 10 of the largest government stimulus contracts in New York City and Long Island -- but created or retained only 54 jobs.

That's an astounding $9 million per job.

The largest contract, at Brookhaven labs on Long Island for $261 million, has put only 26 people on the payroll, while two contracts for $23 million apiece to rehab the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse in Manhattan hasn't created a single job, according to new data.

Upon seeing these numbers, Nancy Pelosi immediately rushed to the House floor and urged passage of a second stimulus package.

OK, I'm kidding about that, but really, would you put it past her?

A $53 million contract to fix a Brooklyn post office created just a third of a job, while a $5.5 million plumbing contract for a federal courthouse didn't create any.

Statewide, New York has gotten $776 million in government contracts through the stimulus, creating or saving 656 jobs, according to the data, which the feds compile from contractors.

Nationally, 30,000 jobs were created by $16 billion in contracts.

Of course since Obama's been president around 3 million jobs have been lost. Not created or saved: Lost. Gone. Goodbye.

Yes, it gets even worse.

A $15 million contract for the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research on Long Island to test new ways to treat schizophrenia has created just 3.8 jobs.

The schizophrenics in Washington will probably claim this as a success.

Considering how pitiful these numbers are, I'm surprised this wasn't a Friday night news dump.

Mr. 43% is now derisively being called Barackie Madoff. Ouch.

The Obama administration boasted yesterday that with $16 billion taken from you and given to others, 30,383 working Americans owe a hearty thanks of gratitude for their jobs.

Even the Obama-fawning press had to do the math and could not avoid pointing out that at $71,500 per job, it's a very costly stimulus.

Struggling small businesses all around this country could have created three times that many jobs with that much money.

Obama's Stimulus Sorcerers have cooked the books from the start to dramatically pad the number of jobs "created" by including some number of jobs allegedly "saved" by their economic sorcery.

Calculating the number of jobs "saved" -- then taking credit for them -- requires no real proof. But you better be able to keep a straight face, and it's best if you carry the heart of a common criminal inside your chest.

Take one of this year's most astonishingly successful federal-stimulus contracts touted on the administration's Web site, a grant for a Head Start program in Danville, Va.

With less than $35,000, the Obama administration managed to create or save 50 jobs in Danville, they boast.

No one was more mystified by this claim than the man who keeps the books for the Community Improvement Council, which won the federal grant.

"It hasn't created jobs, but it's helped improve 50 jobs," Roy Garner explained.

WH: One Million Jobs Saved or Created

This is just more of the theater of the absurd that is passing for an executive branch of government. You can not continue to piss on my shoes and tell me it is raining. This is the type of stories we heard propagated by the old Politiburo through their media arm known as Pravda, the Russian word for "The Truth".

White House economists said Thursday that the Obama administration's recovery efforts have saved or created more than one million jobs so far, an optimistic report that economists cautioned was preliminary and uncertain.

It must be nice to pull numbers out of your butt which are hard to rebut since there is no way of knowing how many jobs would have been lost without the stimulus package, which is what the administration says saved all of the jobs.

Just speaking for my little corner of the world, I ain't seen no jobs being saved. Our unemployment continues to rise. In fact by now most folks are pretty aware that the only sector that is hiring is the federal government. It takes a lot of people to man the offices of the czars.

The report is certain to draw criticism because the U.S. economy has actually lost about 2.5 million jobs since the stimulus was signed in February. Because the White House number is based on economic models, it's impossible to say for certain what that number would have been without the stimulus.

Your Stimulus Dollars at Work

If you thought the "stimulus" plan was a colossal waste of money, you haven't seen anything yet.

In their haste to push stimulus funds out the door, the feds earmarked more than a half-million dollars for the upstate New York town of Union to combat a homelessness problem it doesn't have -- one of 100 projects coming under new scrutiny.

The boondoggle projects are the subject of a scathing report by Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, listing rural bridges, parking lots and even a turtle crossing that got stimulus cash.

"The American people have a right to know how their stimulus dollars are being spent. In too many cases stimulus projects are wasting money we don't have on things we don't need," Coburn said.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development told officials in Union -- 70 miles from Binghamton -- in March that the funds were "directly available . . . in your community" as part of a homelessness-prevention fund, according to documents provided to The Post.

But Union didn't have a pressing homelessness problem, town Supervisor John Bernardo said.

"Union did not request the money and does not currently have homeless programs in place in the town to administer such funds," Bernardo told the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin.

After learning the feds had earmarked the cash, Union came up with a proposal to prevent homelessness -- by helping senior citizens repair or replace furnaces.

Even residents of the town were taken aback by their windfall.

"Its kind of ridiculous," said Desiree Depersiis,18. "Maybe if we had a problem with homeless people, but I've lived here all my life and never seen a homeless person here."

John Tomasky, 72, said "there's no apparent homeless problem here. Absolutely no problem. "It shows how the stimulus package is flawed."

Just remember, the Democrats didn't read this bill before they rushed it through.

Oh, and also don't forget when the midterm elections come around in 2010: No Republicans voted for this mess.
