Perception Vs Reality: Gay Population

A recent Gallup survey was released which shows that about half of the Americans surveyed thought the gay population was around 25%. The reality puts the actual population at less then 5%.

There is little reliable evidence about what percentage of the U.S. population is in reality gay or lesbian, due to few representative surveys asking about sexual orientation, complexities surrounding the groups and definitions involved, and the probability that some gay and lesbian individuals may not choose to identify themselves as such. Demographer Gary Gates last month released a review of population-based surveys on the topic, estimating that 3.5% of adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual, with bisexuals making up a slight majority of that figure.

Gee, I wonder how that could be? Maybe it is because there isn't a show on television that doesn't include a gay character along with the token female and token minority. Could it be because seemingly everybody associated with the entertainment industry has also professed to be gay or a lover of all things gay and wish they could be too? Quite possibly it could be because when the gay activist rally the troops, like they did in California over the gay marriage issue on the ballot, their side of the story was granted all the publicity, while the lives they ruined and threatened in their wake were ignored.

Maybe if more attention to given to such events as the Folsom Street decadence (That link is to the tamer pictures. Inside that link is a link to the NSFW pictures. Come to think of it that first link ain't all that safe.)that takes place in San Francisco the number of people claiming to be associated with gays would drop dramatically.

Amazing how a group that makes up so little of the population manages to bully their way into our lives and garners so much attention.

Steers, Queers, and Illegals

Georgia recently passed an illegal immigration bill patterned after the one passed in Arizona, and in doing so has inspired other states to also start passing legislation to do what the federal government won't do. There are a ton of laws on the books at the federal level that they simply have chosen not to enforce, forcing states to take action. A surprising fact to most people is that Georgia is actually second in the nation in the number of illegal aliens. Before the state took action, a couple of counties within the state had already taken action, which helped to push the legislation through the state house.

Now that Governor Deal has signed it into law, there are the supporters of illegal immigrants that have now decided to get very bold and in your face with their defiance of not only state laws but federal laws as well. A movement has been created to create sanctuary places for the illegals to gather. Going over the list of places it seems as if the militant gay community has teamed up with the La Raza types to spearhead this action. Consider this a public service for residents of metro Atlanta, who if they ever did business or frequented these places, may want to rethink that. Who knows, maybe this will be good for business but I would certainly hope some incompetent butt-kissing boob at the Department of Homeland InSecurity might want to take this opportunity to score some points with the boss and schedule some visits. This should certainly make the job easier, since they apparently are not concerned with staying in the shadows like so many liberals like to espouse.

Remember when folks committing illegal acts tried to avoid the spotlight? Hell, nowadays they give interviews, post details on the internet and just basically give a big middle-finger salute to the law enforcement community telling them that the law doesn't mean squat to them. I tend to get a little steamed when folks laugh in my face, especially when they are laughing at me and not with me.

UPDATE: The US Supreme Court has just upheld that portion of the Arizona law that requires employers to use the federal gov't E-Verify system, which is also a key component of the Georgia law.

"Arizona has taken the route least likely to cause tension with federal law," wrote Chief Justice John Roberts. "It relies solely on the federal government's own determination of who is an unauthorized alien, and it requires Arizona employers to use the federal government's own system for checking employee status."

Media Tries To Assuage Gay Community Over Anger at TOTUS

The administration's water bearers in the media are once again trying to come to the rescue of Obama. When news broke about women voters steering clear of Democrats this time around they found a far left group to prop up the contention that the opposite was true. Now that news is coming out about the gay community also deserting the Dems they come our with stories about how he has hired more openly gay people to positions then anybody else.

Less than halfway through his first term, President Barack Obama has appointed more openly gay officials than any other president in history.

Gay activists say the estimate of more than 150 appointments so far — from agency heads and commission members to policy officials and senior staffers — surpasses the previous high of about 140 reached during two full terms under President Bill Clinton.

After awhile all of these convenient story lines that pop up just in time to counter stories detrimental to the administration at the best get tiresome and at worst further point to the medias collusion to prop up this empty suit in the White House. Frankly I am a little sick and tired of it and dadgummit, if I am going to have to sit in the back of the bus the least they can do is try to reduce the smell from the exhaust fumes.

Shock Study: Gay Men, Straight Women Share Brain Detail

Hmm. They're both emotional, moody, suffer from anxiety and love appletinis.

OK, I made that last part up, but observational studies have concluded this.

Gay men and straight women share some characteristics in the area of the brain responsible for emotion, mood and anxiety, researchers said on Monday in a study highlighting the potential biological underpinning of sexuality.

Brain scans also showed the same symmetry among lesbians and straight men, the researchers wrote in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

That, of course, would explain much about the affinity for beer and softball.

"The observations cannot be easily attributed to perception or behavior," the researchers from Sweden's Karolinska Institute wrote. "Whether they may relate to processes laid down during the fetal or postnatal development is an open question."

Living in the Closet in the Hip-Hop World

This is sure to ruffle some feathers in the ever-macho gangsta rap subculture.

American rap music is an industry ruled by machismo. It is a place where reputations are made by shady pasts, the aura of violence and ultra-masculinity. But now an explosive new book is lifting the lid on one of hip hop's most unexpected secrets: that many people in the business are gay.

Terrance Dean, a former executive at music channel MTV, has penned a memoir of his life and times in the hip hop industry as a gay man. It is an explosive exposé of a thriving gay subculture in an aggressively male business, where anti-gay lyrics and public homophobia are common.

Perhaps not surprisingly, many in the industry are nervous about the book's publication this week, fearing that it will expose some of the top black names in music and Hollywood as secretly gay. But Dean said that his memoir was not intended as a way of outing famous people. 'I was never tempted to name any names. The book is not about outing people. I wrote it so that people realise the industry has a gay subculture and we are part of this music,' he said.

That gay hip hop subculture certainly seems to be thriving. Dean's book describes a world where many industry executives and some artists are leading secret gay lives, which are often obvious to everyone but rarely talked about. And, despite using some false names, the book contains enough information so that it will undoubtedly spark off a frenzy of speculation as to who some of the characters are in real life.

For example, Dean describes 'Lola', a singer who is a lesbian and had to keep her sexuality secret. And 'Gus', a male rap artist who appeared on television in typical 'gangsta' style yet hid a secret gay life. Then there are the other hints of big-name celebrities close to the hip hop business who are also gay. They include 'Lucas', a married A-list movie star, and 'Kareem', a leading sitcom actor.

Dean hopes that by bringing out his book he will allow a leading hip hop figure to come out as gay and thus pave the way for the notoriously homophobic industry to come to terms with its secret side. 'Within the next year I believe a major artist will come out. They are going to have to be brave but I think they can do it,' he said.
