Ford Knuckles Under, Pulls Bailout Ads

Ah, remember the good old old days in America when capitalism was king and freedom of speech reigned?

Good times, good times.

Well, those days are over, at least for now.

As part of a campaign featuring "real people" explaining their decision to buy the Blue Oval, a guy named "Chris" says he "wasn't going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government," according the text of the ad, launched in early September.

"I was going to buy from a manufacturer that's standing on their own: win, lose, or draw. That's what America is about is taking the chance to succeed and understanding when you fail that you gotta' pick yourself up and go back to work."

That's what some of America is about, evidently. Because Ford pulled the ad after individuals inside the White House questioned whether the copy was publicly denigrating the controversial bailout policy CEO Alan Mulally repeatedly supported in the dark days of late 2008, in early '09 and again when the ad flap arose. And more.

With President Barack Obama tuning his re-election campaign amid dismal economic conditions and simmering antipathy toward his stimulus spending and associated bailouts, the Ford ad carried the makings of a political liability when Team Obama can least afford yet another one. Can't have that.

Nope, can't have that, we've got to prop up this miserable failure and make believe he's competent. We've sunk to the level now where planted multimillionaire donors get to ask questions of him at staged townhall events. Communist dictators of days gone by never got such favorable, slobbering treatment in the media.

We've got a thug in the White House stonewalling two massive scandals between Fast and Furious and Solyndra, yet those stories are barely a blip on the mainstream media radar. Bad news is no news according to them. As such, expect them to conveniently ignore this outrageous behavior.

George Will Notes 121 Democrats are Economic Terrorists

Fomrer White House car czar Steven Rattner, who agreed to a $10 million settlement in a kickback scheme, recently called Republicans economic terrorists. Today on This Week he was gangster-slapped by George Will.

Later Will reminded Rattner that he also compared the Tea Party to suicide bombers, which Rattner denied. Although ABC’s Cokie Roberts settled that mini-debate by confirming “terrorists are suicide bombers.” Not to mention the fact that Rattner’s exact words were that members of the Tea Party were essentially strapping dynamite to their chest as a negotiation strategy. Yet, if the Tea Party members who opposed raising the debt ceiling were “terrorists,” since that was the only way possible to avoid default, then Will had a shocking revelation for Rattner regarding who voted for eventual debt deal that passed:

“You do know that 95 House Democrats voted against raising the debt ceiling as compared to only 66 House Republicans. You do know that 26 Democratic Senators voted against raising the debt ceiling?”

That’s right, by Rattner’s logic then, it’s actually the Democratic party that has more “terrorists” amongst their ranks since more of them voted against raising the debt ceiling at the last crucial moment. What should be embarrassing for Rattner and others who have resorted to such “violent rhetoric” to describe the peaceful and persistent views of the Tea Party is that it’s become clear they would prefer to belittle a viewpoint popular with many, rather than attempt to convince more Americans of the merits of their philosophy.

Name That Party: Criminal Ex-Mayor of Detroit Indicted Again

Maybe the Detroit media figures it's pointless to even note what a cesspool their city has become under corrupt Democratic Party rule, but a cursory mention of thug Kwame Kilpatrick's party affiliation is at least worth noting, no?

Ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, the ultimate target in a six-year federal investigation into City Hall corruption, was indicted today by a federal grand jury, accused of orchestrating an elaborate scheme that forced contractors to pay heavily in return for city contracts.

The charges cap a lengthy federal corruption investigation headed by the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office that has netted more than 10 felony convictions, including former City Council President Monica Conyers.

Conyers, the wife of Democrat Congressman John Conyers (who isn't even mentioned, by the way) is already in prison.

The indictment follows years of leaks, secretive grand jury meetings, wiretaps, small fish convictions, rumors and teases and finally connects the dots between Kilpatrick and a broad pattern of corruption involving several city departments, including the Detroit Water and Sewerage. Kilpatrick once had broad powers to award multimillion-dollar contracts without Detroit City Council approval.

The indictment is the latest federal blow against Kilpatrick, 40, who is in federal prison on a probation violation and was indicted June 23 on 19 fraud and tax counts. That indictment accused the former mayor of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars donated to the Kilpatrick Civic Fund, a community educational organization controlled by family and friends. He allegedly spent the money on travel, yoga lessons and other personal expenses.

Today's indictments touch on several major scandals that dogged Kilpatrick's tenure.

Other than all that he's clean as a whistle.

Foreign Money in Politics: Soros Donates $1 Million to Media Matters

I wonder if the Little Hitlers at Media Matters will attack me for noting this?

Media Matters, the liberal activist group that wages a rhetorical war against Fox News Channel and others in the conservative press, will announce on Wednesday the receipt of a $1 million donation from the philanthropist George Soros.

In a statement obtained by The Caucus, the organization says it plans to use the money to intensify its efforts to hold the Fox host Glenn Beck and others on the cable news channel accountable for their reporting.

“Fox has transformed itself into a 24-7 G.O.P. attack machine, dividing Americans through fear-mongering and falsehoods and undermining the legitimacy of our government for partisan political ends,” the group will say in the statement, to be released Wednesday afternoon.

So we have a group that makes up stories about Beck and Rush Limbaugh by splicing together audio and Fox is the attack machine? What planet are these people living on?

In an accompanying statement, Mr. Soros, a billionaire who has a history of supporting liberal politicians and causes, accused Fox News hosts of “incendiary rhetoric” and said he hoped that his money would be used “in an effort to more widely publicize the challenge Fox News poses to civil and informed discourse in our democracy.”

Civil actions. Like making up stories. Typical leftists. Accuse others of actions which you are guilty of.

Officials at Media Matters regularly deny that they have ever taken money from Mr. Soros, who repeats that denial in Wednesday’s statement, saying, “I have not to date been a funder” of the liberal organization. Now, he will officially be a donor, and likely a fresh target for criticism from the right.

Media Matters has a long, documented history with Soros. Now it's undeniable.

Meanwhile, the thugs spend their days begging advertisers to boycott Fox News. How pathetic.

Politico, however, reported today that “Media Matters has received funding from or formed partnerships with several groups that Soros funds or has funded. These include the Tides Foundation, Democracy Alliance, Moveon.org and the Center for American Progress.” It later corrected its post to absolve Moveon.org because it “has not received a donation from Soros since 2004.”

Good News, Ladies: Face-Slashing Pol Now Looking for Love

Former state Sen. Hiram Monserrate -- who was charged with slashing girlfriend Karla Giraldo in the face with a broken drinking glass in 2008 -- has dumped her to dive back into the dating pool.

The pudgy, disgraced Queens Dem made it known he was no longer with Giraldo -- who stood by him after his conviction for assaulting her -- during a May 6 private party on Central Park South, where he tried out some lame, old pickup lines on some fresh, young faces.

"I'm single now," he cooed to two female partygoers almost half his age.

And the movie buff is hot to trot.

He said he wanted to take a sweetie to see "Iron Man 2" before it's out of theaters.

Despite being booted from the Senate in February and rebuffed by voters in a comeback bid in March, Monserrate still hands out his state Senate business cards to prospective dates -- but with the old phone numbers crossed out and his current digits penciled in.

Last week, he kept it flirty with one of the 20-somethings he met at the party, a Post reporter who later requested a formal interview with him.

"I'd like to date," said the divorced dad of one. "I'm looking for a good Christian woman who's good company. I want to settle down and have kids."

When the reporter said she was non-Christian, he hinted that accommodations could be made.

He also seemed to delight at poking fun at her weight.

"You're too thin," he teased.

But that didn't stop him from asking for a date.

"You said I was too thin," the woman replied.

"I can fatten you up," he shot back.

Who wouldn't want to date such a classy guy?

Civil rights group says paper falsely suggested drop in its grassroots support

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/12/07) - A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today accused a right-wing Washington, D.C., newspaper of "agenda-driven reporting" for falsely suggesting there has been a drop in that organization's grassroots support.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil liberties group with 33 chapters and offices around the country, said an article in today's Washington Times newspaper misrepresented figures on its tax filings to falsely indicate a drop in membership.

In a statement sent to the Washington Times prior to publication of the false and misleading article, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad stated:

"Comparing CAIR's 2000 dues figure to that of 2006 is a misleading and mischievous 'apples and oranges' exercise because those figures were calculated based on different criteria. They do not include the thousands of people of all faiths who became CAIR members through several free or low-cost membership drives. For example, between 2002 and 2006, more than 25,000 people became active members for $10 or less during those drives.

"Our membership is increasing steadily, as is our donor base, annual budget, and attendance at CAIR events around the country promoting interfaith understanding and respect for civil liberties.

"The increase in CAIR's grassroots support in the American Muslim community is clearly demonstrated by the opening of 25 chapters and offices since 2001, all of which are funded exclusively through local donations. Each year, CAIR fundraising banquets in Washington, D.C., and nationwide are sold-out events of up to 2000 people.

"We are also concerned that Washington Times reporter Audrey Hudson has apparently had a vendetta against our organization and the American Muslim community since she was barred from a recent CAIR news conference because of her history of sloppy and agenda-driven reporting. It is unfortunate that her apparent bias leads her to 'cook' CAIR's membership figures and to tarnish the journalistic reputation of the Washington Times."

"Support for CAIR has grown as ordinary Muslims witnessed the exponential growth in attacks on their faith by Islamophobes seeking to marginalize and disenfranchise the American Islamic community," said CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. "It is CAIR's principled and effective defense of the American Muslim community and our criticism of failed foreign and domestic policies that have made us the target of these scurrilous attacks. We will not be intimidated or silenced by hate-mongers."

"CAIR is first and foremost a service organization that responds to the needs of millions of American Muslims," said Hooper.

He said CAIR, since its founding in 1994, has helped some 20,000 individuals and families who reported incidents of anti-Muslim bias or discrimination. In the past year alone, some 10,000 people attended CAIR fundraising events. More than 300 community leaders currently serve on CAIR boards and as staff nationwide. CAIR donors include people of all faiths and walks of life.

Hooper asked members of the American Muslim community and other people of conscience to "tell the Washington Times what they think of its irresponsible, agenda-driven reporting" by becoming a CAIR member.
