Michael Steele, Establishment Candidate?

The Washington Post is working overtime trying to derail George Allen and Michael Steele, and you have to give them style points for ingenuity for calling Steele a candidate of the Washington establishment.

AS HE CLOSES out his campaign for the U.S. Senate in Maryland, a central theme for Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele has been to paint himself as an agent of change and his Democratic opponent, Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, as the candidate of the proverbial Washington establishment. In fact, Mr. Steele, a Republican, is the real go-along-to-get-along candidate in the race.

Considering Steele's opponent, Ben Cardin has been in Congress for a couples of decades, that's more than a stretch.

Steele truly has the Democrats freaking out, and his campaign has been filled with humor and good cheer, which drives the dour left crazy. They think they have a sense of humor, but when a strong black candidate who happens to be a mainstream Republican shows his funny side, they resort to crude smears and race-baiting, which has been well chronicled by Michelle Malkin.

Despite the left's tactics and the fact Maryland is the bluest of blue states, Steele is in a dead heat with Cardin, and I believe he has an excellent chance at winning this race, which would demolish any chance the Democrats have of winning a majority come Tuesday.

  1. Is Maryland considered a southern state...being a slave-holding state on the border, etc etc? My point being that the media are proclaiming the Corker-Ford race to be the one with the potential to have the first black senator from the south. I am from Tennessee and plan on voting for Ford (Corker turned a blind eye towards using illegals on his construction sites, that is not cool) but it seems that Steele should be considered in this regard as well. Not to mention he is a great candidate and has destroyed his opponent in debate. (I reached your site from your post on LGF)
