Bill Gertz has a most disturbing report in the Washington Times today noting that China has been sending arms to the Taliban via Iran. If this is indeed true, and I have no reason to doubt Gertz, this is an alarming escalation that we had better deal with quickly.
Just because we have business interests in China does not make them our friends. Now with Iran speading its influence throughout the Mideast and Russia rattling sabers, we have some huge problems brewing.
It's doubtful any of this would come up at any Democrat debates, but whoever the Republicans nominate better be prepared to deal forcefully with our enemies, as they're growing in number. I've lost faith that the Bush administration will directly confront the Chinese, but let's hope his successor, if it's a Republican, has the onions to do so.
