Wanted Abu Sayyaf Rebel Gunned Down
Filipino soldiers killed a suspected Abu Sayyaf militant wanted by Philippine and U.S. authorities for alleged involvement in the 2000 kidnappings of 21 people, including Western tourists, a navy spokesman said Sunday.I wonder if Mrs. Clinton is getting any donations from this terror organization?
U.S. troops have been providing combat training and surveillance assistance to Filipino soldiers trying to wipe out the Abu Sayyaf, a brutal al-Qaida-linked group blacklisted by Washington as a terrorist organization. The group has been blamed for kidnappings, bombings and beheadings.
Abdulmibin Sakandal was killed when he engaged in a gunfight with a marine contingent that attempted to capture him late Saturday in his hide-out in Bongao town in the country's southernmost province of Tawi Tawi, Philippine navy spokesman Lt. Col. Ariel Caculitan said.
''He was to be apprehended but he put up a fight,'' he said.
Sakandal was a brother-in-law of Abu Sayyaf chieftain Khaddafy Janjalani, who was killed by marines during a gunbattle on nearby Jolo island in September last year, Caculitan said.
Sakandal was involved in a string of kidnappings, including the abduction of 21 Asian workers and Western tourists from the Sipadan diving resort in neighboring Malaysia in 2000, he said.
