Justice Department Begins Investigation of Justice Department

This will probably lead nowhere, but it is one of those only in Washington type things. A separate office within the Justice Department, the Office of Professional Responsibility, has begun an investigation into why the charges against the New Black Panther members who were standing in front of a polling place in Pennsylvania acting like New Black Panthers was dropped.
This was done at the urging of Republican representative Lamar Smith of Texas.
The inquiry is disclosed in an Aug. 28 letter to Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee who first raised questions about the dismissal in May and asked unsuccessfully that Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. make available the head of the department's Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division for a closed-door briefing on the decision.
