A Long Island mom was arrested after her daughter made a series of 911 calls on her cell phone claiming her mother was driving drunk, authorities said.
Jamie Hicks, 48, was driving with her two children, ages 10 and 12, in the car when one of them, her 12-year-old daughter, frantically called 911 several times as their green Buick was speeding along Interstate 84 at about 6 p.m. Sunday in the upstate town of Southeast near Brewster.
Police said the 12-year-old, who was not identified, told the police dispatcher that her mom was drunk.
New York State troopers from Brewster stopped Hicks, of Islip, after getting the calls. Cops said Hicks had been swerving into other traffic lanes when she was pulled over.
Hicks had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 percent -- more than twice the state's legal limit of 0.08, police said.
She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with passengers under the age of 16, a felony, and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. She was charged under Leandra's Law, which makes it a felony to drive drunk with kids in the car.
Hicks was released on $2,000 bond on Monday. She is due back in court on Aug. 17
The incident is reminiscent of the Taconic car crash, which occurred a year ago Monday, that killed eight people.

Mother of the Year Candidate Busted for DWI
How depraved do you have to be to be bombed out of your skull with your kids in the car? Thanks goodness one of her children took matters into her own hands. I just can't imagine how you could be so depraved to endanger your own kids like this. Just imagine how terrified these poor kids were.
